Ironically I actually picked a really nice looking signature years ago, but *now* it's not going to be aplicable cause I'm changing my name this will definitely help! Thanks Crowne!
I would slightly blur or pixelize your signature to test how readable it is. If you can’t read it when pixelized. If your image is screenshotted or saved small…. People will not be able to read it. I’ve seen many pieces of art where I can’t read the signature since stuff is too close together or just it does not read well at a low quality. Like at least to be able to read what the first letter is.
like the video said its not necessarily supposed to be readable, more of a personalized touch to add to art, but more so on a physical copy of the art price. Readability is more the job of a watermark which ideally is going to be more for digital media which is more likely to be shared etc.
That's the point, it's you signing your work. If you want to prevent others from stealing it or other stuff, you use "watermarks" or add some social besides the signature. Just the signature is only a way of signing your work and does not have to mean anything to others.
Imagine drawing something for a family member or friend, you'd sign it so they know it's yours but you don't add any socials or make it more clear since they already know it's from you
This genuinely couldn't have come out at a better time! I just finished something last week and it was the first time I put _any_ sort of signature/watermark on it, but I immediately knew I need to improve my approach. Gonna take some notes for sure - thank you :3

Had an old signature for my username of “Redwolf” where I combined the R and W together and it looked really nice! Unfortunately I had changed my name since then, but it’s still a pretty awesome signature
At first my Signature was my full username. but it got reduced very fast to only the number 44 mirrored which eventually just became a H, which is ironically the first letter of my Name. I would suggest not thinking too hard about a signature either. Like you said, it evolves with time. So as long you draw it per hand on each piece you create your signature will evolve alongside your art career
My signature has been something that's been done since I was 10. It used to be clear to read, but It has been over a decade and it has slowly evolved into an unrecognizable doctor scribble... so to not lose people interested in my art I have to obligatorily write the watermark lol
I remember trying to make an artists signature in highschool and I wanted so badly for the "A" in my first name to be a star, but that just didn't work and the more is signed the more messy my overall signature got until it became completely illegible before just becoming my first and last initial. A lot of that is privacy and business decisions. Does it matter if everyone on the internet knows your real name? Are you planning to work for a company where everybody in the credits uses their real name? You can have more than one pen name too. A "Should I use a pen name" search might help.
Only way I've found to make my 'full name'-signature fast due to the length of my name is to just du a bunch of unreadable squiggles after B, G and P and make two dashes where the T and the dots over Ö would be.
my signature is literally just my first name and doesn’t say anything but i’ve drawn this name in such a specific way for 4 years that i just can’t change it. it’s how i am
(I believe my signature falls under combo) My signature has gone through two minor changes and both during middle school! My signature is of my initials AW but little me though it was cool if the A was instead a star. So I drew out one of those sucky line stars (idk what they're called but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about). And so the A was a star and the line in the center stroked through like the middle line in the A and then I just wrote W next to it. ive always used watermarks when i remember to and never really put thought into trying to make a signature. my online name is just too long to work as a signature lmao
My biggest problem is that I post my art both as my online persona and in private as myself, so I don’t know if I need two signatures or just stick to one.
Now I do wonder what I'd use as signature considering I'm a 3D artist. We typically don't draw stuff, we model, texture and render things after setting up lighting and shaders and whatnot. So I don't exactly see how a hand-drawn signature fits there? I might try it though.
I hate how digital art feels so i use the same pencil for the whole drawing. When i wanna post something i sign it by finding the shade style that it would be easiest to turn into a font and darken my name into it
I actually really like my art signature, it’s my username (StarGrimmchild but with a lowercase g) and the dot on the “i” in “grimm” is a long cross to look like a star. Pretty cool I think :D
I try to make my signature a hourglass because I don’t want people thinking the other way for example my user is Phiche Pxylode. I don’t want to be “PP” because it sounds wrong and weird. So I do a hourglass to combine the Ps but I’m trying to redesign it so people don’t see it as “DP.” This video seems helpful and I can’t wait to try it out
I’ve been considering shortening my signature to the first four letters of my first and last name: Kait Kauf, but I wonder if that’s weird?? On the one hand, I like how it looks when I end on the t and f. Very swooshy. And I like how it’s a little faster to sign than my full name. But what if that confuses people? What if they think it’s my actual name? I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone else shorten their name in their signature before (aside from initials).
This video is really good, and helpful. But one thing: on 1:31 under “Intial” you have an example of initials as “SS”. Don’t use SS as initials. Not even as an example. Unless you have a very specific target audience.
Sylvester Gardenzio Stallone (SGS) signs with his name + last name, or with Sly. Steven Allan Spielberg signs with S A Spielberg. Susan Abigail Sarandon (after marriage) signs with a scribble. None of them contain SS or look anything like SS. These are celebrities, they definitely can’t afford to be associated with SS.

@@swampertdeck fair enough. like, i get it, i understand why, it just still seems like a little much to set a hard rule that no one should ever use the initials SS even when those are literally their initials. SS is still used for steamships too. my grandmother's initials are BS. her middle initial doesnt help either, since that just makes it BMS. she got in trouble at work a few times over it. obviously thats not exactly the same but my point is... someone's initials are just their initials, and i wouldnt automatically read them the worst way i could think of like that.
It’s not a hard rule. But IF you decide to sign your artwork with “SS”, “KKK” or a swastika, then no gallery will accept it. You’ll offend people, people will think you’re insensitive, or they’ll make fun of you. SS in sailing/steam ship names predates the 1940s usage. And it’s not a name in itself, nor a symbol, like SS is. Initals like BS, HH, or CP can be unfortunate in specific situations, but are not nearly as recognizable and offending as SS or KKK.
My signature is literally just the candy "Taffy" its really nice, pretty, and I love it.but if I ever want to change it,do I have to go back on all of my art(which is a lot💀)and sign the new one,do I just leave the old ones alone,or is it too late and I can't change it at all???
Hi, I'd use signature by hand, to symbolize whom draw the art, is me. A person still don't have official waterprint, but only used flag for this purpose.
I've undergone Multiple signature changes throughout the years but I think I've finally found one I can stick to for a long time haha

I hate how digital art feels so i use the same pencil for the whole drawing. When i wanna post something i sign it by finding the shade style that it would be easiest to turn into a font and darken my name into it
So you said to basically keep designing until you like one but, that’s my problem. I can’t physically sit down and design a signature
I actually really like my art signature, it’s my username (StarGrimmchild but with a lowercase g) and the dot on the “i” in “grimm” is a long cross to look like a star. Pretty cool I think :D
Work on the signature
Forget about the signature
Work on the signature
Forget it again
my signature is my initials made into a symbol. I think its settled down on its "final" form. all thats left is let time exagerate that form
I wanna do one that's just Kat, and make the "K" a star, but idk
I always doodle a little sona, just 4 strokes and it always comes out (nearly) the same
Respect to her putting on bob ross signiture on thier just because he is great
I DO THIS!
Oh nice
I try to make my signature a hourglass because I don’t want people thinking the other way for example my user is Phiche Pxylode. I don’t want to be “PP” because it sounds wrong and weird. So I do a hourglass to combine the Ps but I’m trying to redesign it so people don’t see it as “DP.” This video seems helpful and I can’t wait to try it out
First step for me: find a good alias/penname
yeahhh.. the signature part is gonna have to be delayed just a bit
I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone else shorten their name in their signature before (aside from initials).
yooooooo cool new video
This video is really good, and helpful. But one thing: on 1:31 under “Intial” you have an example of initials as “SS”. Don’t use SS as initials. Not even as an example. Unless you have a very specific target audience.
rip to Steven Spielberg and Susan Sarandon and Sylvester Stalone etc etc etc i guess

I used to have a decent signature for my name that over the years devolved into a doctors scribble
I have question
Should i use signature even in quick messy sketches or only in proper and finished arts?
I prefer my Brand name or username.Just simple or easy to searchable. I'm good!
I feel like my signature is too simple, also it doesn't match my social media name. But idk what to do with it to change it☹️
my actual signature on legal documents is crap so i'm making sure the one i use for art is gonna look better😂
gritty??? GRIDDY!!!
I thought of my online name, and add my sona's tail in the end
My biggest problem is that my name is to long anyone have any tips?
(could be useful for graffiti, too XD)
hey quick question: what's your thoughts on putting color in a signature?
TEMMMIIIEEE!
If your posting stuff online and you want to use intials, should you use the intials for your actual name or the intials for your online handle?
I don't even have a signature for real life documents.
\*raises hand\* how long is it acceptable to not have a signature? cuz it's been a lustrum and a half an I still dont have one
I just draw my first real name in cursive, with a few fancy lines goin through it, and a heart or Star. 😭
Hi, I'd use signature by hand, to symbolize whom draw the art, is me.
A person still don't have official waterprint, but only used flag for this purpose.
