A great in-depth video mate . I was very surprised with this this year and very impressed with Spaten . A complete flip around from last year . Cheers 🍻👊🏻
@@TheCrumbyBeard Indifferent to be honest Tom. Don't get me wrong, it was ok but certainly lacking compared to last year's beer. It had quite a nice bitterness to it, but seemed to have very little sweetness if any. There was a subtle sweetness to begin with last years but for me, this years had a bit of bitterness and not much else. Better luck next year Paulaner! Cheers Tom
@@TheCrumbyBeardThe glass bottles I got from majestic were also 09/25 and they seemed decent. However I do think there are some QA issues going on. The label looks like it has been done on a dodgy laser printer and each bottle has a line/print issue. I can send you a picture of you want?
I like the resourcefulness! Shame about the beer but likewise I have a stash of beers in the kitchen fridge that I think are sub-par and use them for cooking whenever I can. Cheers!
Well, to further complicate the issue... I had hoped to compare Ireland vs UK sourced but the fact that Paulaner Oktoberfest beer didn't even appear in the Republic this year put paid to that idea. Instead I've just compared a bottle of 2023 vs 2024 (latter BBE 08/25) and they are chalk and cheese. There's a sour and metallic flavour with the 2024 bottle and a slight funkiness in the background. Definitely consistency problems which are unexpected for a flagship product from such a big brewery.
Yeah I really am surprised. All I can think is that some of the problems established in the bottle after shipping, I just don't believe they'd get sent out the brewery gates in that condition!
Nice video - the only way to compare is to have a side by side. I suspect if you approached Paulaner though, they’d deny all knowledge of any issues. From my experience, whenever I’ve contacted any brewery (big or local) about particular beers, they don’t want to know - they don’t do themselves any favours as it will just stop some people buying their beers.
Very true Lee - it won't stop me buying as on the whole I've had a great long-term experience but just got to hope this is a blip not to be repeated! Cheers!
Ive drank the German market one I imported it and it wasnt bad nothing special but no nasties or off flavours maybe a little out of balance, been to Munich recently drank the unfiltered lager and dunkel which are exclusively brewed in Paulaner nockerberg and they were incredible, also visited the paulaner brauhaus and had their house lager it was worlds apart to what we get in terms of flavour and smoothness. I wouldnt even buy the stuff we get here as similar to hofbrauhaus the beers are nowhere near the quality you get in Germany. Beers brewed for export apparently dont need to follow the purity law either someone told me out there. Ive had all the octoberfest beers apart from hacker pschorr this year and from memory, augustiner, lowenbrau and spaten were the most to the style. I should really start uploading my reviews as Ive probably got over 400 on german beers so I should have a bit of experience on quality beer by now😅, keep up the great reviews🍻
Oh wow, that's totally the other-way to the bad ones I've had and have heard about from others. That sounds like diacetyl in the beer, effectively an off-note.

Likewise matey! Was a real shocker but hey, at least it's a new experience each year! Cheers!
Great video Tom. True dedication to the cause and top class research! 👍I have a bottle exp. 09/25 so I'll give it a go on the weekend.
How did you get on with that bottle? Good, bad or indifferent?

@@exile2828 please do, I haven’t seen that on mine. Drop me a message on Instagram if you can!
You finally got to the bottom
Of the Paulaner Oktoberfest 2024 conundrum 😂 good video as always pal 👍😀
The words Paulaner Oktoberfest Festbier have lost all meaning I've said it that often! Cheers Paul!
@@TheCrumbyBeardthat’s true I’m staying away from Paulaner Oktoberfest next year 😢
Chicago, USA here. Got a batch with a best buy date of 3/25 with the same problem. Too hoppy. Will use the rest to cook bratwurst.
What a good way to use up the beers 10/10 my friend 👍😀

I had a Stein of Paulaner Octoberfest 6% draught from Steins in Kingston in September and is was great - Maybe only the Cans/Bottles were affected?
Entirely possible! When it's good, it's really damn good, but just so inconsistent this year it's annoying! Cheers!

I've had two paulaner beers lately and both have been badly off so frankly not gonna be buying them
Could you say they're Paulaner your leg?

Oh interesting! Totally agree with you on those three being on best form this year. 400 is some number! Very impressed haha. Cheers!
I had one that was really sweet and off, almost tasted like a polish mocne full of glucose syrup and stuff
