Rest In Peace, Sir George Martin, thank you for all the great music you produced for the world. 🕯

I live very close by and met him several times, he opened his gardens every now and then to raise money for the village and everytime I met him he was always a true gentlemen. He never refused giving a autograph and would always listen as you spoke to him about music, I'm quite sure he heard the same thing over and over again but would always look like it was the first time anyone said "soundtrack of my life". By the way, you have missed off the most important thing about the grave stone, carved into the stone right at the bottom is a Latin phrase, which when translated into English reads ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE.

I was 16 and regularly went to the Lunchtime sessions at the CAVERN and watched John, Paul, George and Pete and it was buzzing when news of a big music executive was visiting from London......unfortunately I never got to see him as he was in the opposite side of the cellar.....that's the only experience I have. Now at 79 I've've been a lifelong fan of these four lads who shook the world.
Sad to see the resting place of such a prominent public figure who achieved so much in the state its in.

OMG!! His only been gone 7 years...the headstone looks 100 years old....there is no doubt. He secures his place in music history. And to be involved with the Beatles as well . We'll. That says it all...Such a shame his final resting place doesn't reflect the huge influence he was in social history. Again. Thankyou Paul for all the hard work you put in. And the many many miles you drive to bring these celebrities. And their final resting places to this public platform...your a star..really. you are. And really appreciated Why you haven't got a series on Dave I don't know lol????...😮

RIP sir George and thankyou for helping to make my life more interesting and fun in the 60s!

I have never had any connection with George, but I have walked past Paul McCartney a handful of times in Soho and St Johns wood. I feel a little sad his Headstone looks faded and unkept. George Martin produced comedy records prior to The Beatles, most especially The Goons who The Beatles were huge fans of and who influenced their own humour. So I think they felt a bond with him right away due to that. He was a sympathetic and open minded enabler of their ideas in the studio and it was quite fortunate, I think, that he became their nurturer and producer.

Oh Paul! What a sad grave for someone who played such a large part in the Beatles career, fifth Beatle indeed. Yes it’s sad no flowers , but if he only died in 2016 the stone isn’t erected the first year, so I think shame on the stone mason who created/cut/ erected such an illegible piece of stone as a Memorial! To think we see stones carved by hand in some church yards that are over 200 yrs, and still clear to read, I’m disgusted and deeply saddened that this one should have deteriorated to such a degree in what, six-seven years!!! …..Hope his family or executors see this.
I’m sorry the poor man battled with stomach cancer towards the end of his life, but hope he was free from pain when he passed in his sleep at the end. Now he can reminisce and talk to John, George and all the other Artists who he knew in this life, while he starts in his new life. I’m sorry I never knew him, but recall his always being featured in the papers about different bands and then latterly the Beatles in the 60’s. He put a lot into his career, and made a lot of records, which will continue to be played into the future. Thanks Paul! As usual you were up with the birds! Don’t think I could have got up to drive at that time of the morning, but it did look lovely and peaceful. Need a few sheep in there to keep the grass down!! Warm regards and as always many thanks for ALL you do. Best wishes from Norfolk! 🙋‍♀️😘👏🏻👏🏻🙏

    Good morning Paul.
Well that was a surprise. When you entered that cemetery and said it was a small place and briefly scanned it with the camera there was a large grave in the background that looked either to be covered in a large piece of white marble or white stone chips (it was too far away to see properly) and I thought, ‘That’s it, seen it’! But no, Sir George’s grave turned out to be nothing spectacular and marked with a very plain headstone with no reference to who he was and no title preceding his name. Anyone stumbling across that cemetery on a holiday country walk and deciding to investigate further would have had no idea who George had been and his massive impact on the pop industry and popular culture, well done for putting Sir George Martin on the map of final resting places of people who should be remembered and celebrated. Incidentally, I was once told that George used to live in an impressive old house that stand on one side of the crossroads by the Hare pub (don’t think it’s a pub anymore but a longtime since I was last down that way) on the road out of Harrow Weald (where I was brought up) heading towards Stanmore. Sadly I can’t attach a photo to this comment but I’ll look it up on Google Earth and see if I can attach a link. Keep ‘em coming!

I was surprised his grave is not better kept. Usually in the countryside like that a relative comes along and tidy's things up a bit.
My take on George is that the Beatles were the innovators and music makers and George was the cherry on top. They worked together to make in my view music I hope will never get old.

Many years ago When I was a student studying classical Art at the Angel Academy in Florence, Italy they organized a show for the student's work at Jack Barclay Bentley, Berkeley Square, London, it was a 10th Year Anniversary of the Angel Academy of Art and Sir George Martin was there, I luckily had a brief meeting with him, as a big fan of his and the Beatles I froze to be honest.

Thanks again Paul, a very interesting story. As I’ve said in several of your other videos before, I was never a Beatles fan, but it is interesting to see where history takes us. This grave is a perfect example of how death is a great leveller. A very humble (and unusually worn) headstone for its age. Some people live successful lives in the public eye and can enjoy wealth and all the trappings that go with it. However you can’t take it with you and this humble grave in a small, poorly maintained cemetery is the evidence of this, together with the fact that no matter what your fame might have been, once your dead, it’s all gone, except for the memories. Your past is almost invisible. The one great thing about this grave is the lovely peace and isolation it enjoys in a beautiful rural location. I’ll be driving through Oxfordshire today on my way to Hampshire from Derbyshire !
