    IVE is struggling from the same problem that Red Velvet suffered from. And the Twice… and then Blackpink… and then Itzy… and then Aespa… You really can’t be a popular girl group without every release being forcefully criticized for being “end the of your career”. Once you’re popular, everything you put out after that is “Not good enough” or “Won’t be as good as their old stuff”. The bias against these groups is so forced…

    • @H3artsforTae
      @H3artsforTae Год назад +102

      That is actually so true! I don't stan any of those gg's besides twice, but ik the hate they get and how every release is called their last but the fans still stream and like them and break records. That's how it is for any kpop group in general, or at least decently popular ones, they get tons of hate and people say how they ended their career etc.
      The more fans you gain, the more haters you gain.

    • @Nameless_mixes

      @@H3artsforTae Exactly. It’s one of those things where you have to just block out the noise. Red Velvet were considered flops when they debuted. Twice were considered SNSD clones. Blackpink were considered a watered down version of 2NE1. And so forth and so on. Yet they’re still three of the biggest girl groups and considered The Holy Trinity. And I’m sure that once Le Sserafim’s comeback drops and then NewJeans after them, we’ll see the same pattern of behavior. “One hit wonders”, “Trying way too hard to be relevant”, “Will never be as big as ___ group”! After a month or so, people will be praising “Kitsch” and using it to discredit other 4th gen girl group releases.

    • @2FullMoons
      @2FullMoons Год назад +41

      YES! That’s literally my take as well. The biggest crime in kpop is being succesful, notice how last year up until the award season everybody gave IVE and their music a fair chance, now that they proved themselves in the industry, people started hating on them. That’s how the hate train started at end of last year and into spring, out of nowhere they were untalented, not friends, rude, they hate each other and so on. Everything was literally such a forced set up it’s insane. Now they’re switching up on the last thing they couldn’t so far, their music. The only difference is that IVE is in the position where the hate was mostly from western fans, Korea and east asian countries adore them. Kitsch is their fast song to reach RAK and the third this year, and the song had close to no promo. I’m sure they will be fine, it’s just gonna be rough this album cycle.

      @@Nameless_mixes real, it's aways the same pattern. I've been in the kpop community forever 5 yrs now, and I see this type of thing happen constantly. Every new group has haters acusing them of copying someone or being better then a previous group. Like babymonster, everyone is saying they are the next Blackpink 💀
      And everyone saying stray kids is the next bts. Like bffr. They don't realize just how big those groups are, they cannot be recreated. Haters have been praying for both of their downfall for years and saying every comeback was the worst one yet and it's over for their careers. Yet every come back both groups break new world records and gain new fans. Same with every other group. It's just always so repetitive, toxic kids can't ever leave someone alone, they feel the need to drag another group just to make their group seem better. Fanwars have gotten so out of hand, and every year it gets worse. Tbh, I'm so scared for 5th gen.

    NMIXX’s concept has “ruined” narratives in KPop. This is just an anti-drop with a different instrumentation from the verses/pre-chorus. It’s not mix pop. It’s not genre clashing. It’s just subverting expectations. I need more KPop stans to understand music theory and music production 😅

    • @soomi

      When you learn about music genres you have a hard and long laugh about the idea of "mixxpop", because most kpop songs already have mixed genres within. Just because it's blended well enough people tend to think its just 1 genre when it almost never is. Unless it's like a classical ballad or something. Most kpop is edm, which has mixed sub-genres per section(s) of the song. hip-hop verses, rnb pre-chorus and a trap chorus etc. like that. Even often 2-3 genres can go on at the same time. etc.

      what kpop stans forget is that pre-releases are NOT meant to be the groups main concept. it give the group room to experiment while having a safety net of a title track that for sure appeals to the gp. its better to experiment with pre-releases bc the risk is lower. they put way less time, energy and money into promoting the pre-releases because it might flop. like if the single gets rly bad reception, the company will probably say "alright lets not do that again" but if its well received and people want to see more of it then the company may consider doing that sound in the future.
      usually after 3-4 comebacks a group has a slight concept switch because otherwise people would get tired of the same thing. like itzy stopped doing the self love concept after 3 songs, they kept their sound but changed it slightly. and i think starship knows they cant keep doing the same royal concept for ive so theyre using kitsch to gauge how their fans feel about ive doing something more intense. ive's bsdies always gave me the vibe of western pop and kitsch sounds like a little mix/fifth harmony song imo. so i think ss might be leaning towards going in that direction for their next "trilogy"

Mixxpop is supposed to subvert your expectations, and even I can tell it is to give people that shock factor on each beat switch (whether they be good or bad is just your music preference (yes I like it)). NMIXX's concept is more about the performance and the shocking transitions (whether good or bad) than the music.
    NMIXX is more about doing something unexpected (whether that be good or bad) and not being sorry for having their concept no matter what people think (they lyrics to Tank describe their concept).

All the hate we saw them receiving this past few months were mostly western fans, the girls were virtually untouched in Korea and that part of the world. As much as people want to downplay their validity, the reality is that IVE’s success LITERALLY translates on every chart and every stat. I am not bias when I say this, it’s just the truth, their success is real and it’s as organic as it can get when you have Wony and Yujin in the group. And I think that pisses a lot of people off.

    Kitsch is literally not bad at all, of course there will be people who will genuinly dislike it and that’s perfectly normal, but we also can’t dismiss the fact that IVE is coming off of one of the harshest hatetrains a girl group has ever seen, after the award season some people developed strong negative biases against them and they will express that. There are a lot of people who trash on the song just because they don’t like IVE anymore, they’re trying really hard to convince us all of how bad the song is. If this was released last year I am more than sure that most of those people would of liked it or at least found it fine. I am sure that even if they released the most amazing song ever, people would of still not given the song and the girls a fair shot as they did last year. It’s not my favorite release from them but I do really like it, I can’t agree with the messy production opinion you share because I actually enjoy the drop and the way the chorus was constructed but I also don’t think it’s their strongest release. And to be honest, I don’t think they were going for that either. This album has zero promo so far and it’s coming out in 2 weeks, we don’t even have an official concept photo, all we have is this song so my take is that it was meant to create buzz. That’s why I am highly suspicious of the Liz situation because I don’t believe there’s any way in hell Starship thought we would just be fine with it, it had to be a planned controversy of some sort. MY SPECULATION ofc. Maybe the knew IVE’s peculiar situation with the kpop community so they intentionally played on that by giving Liz no lines and releasing a song they knew would be talked about. But that’s giving Starship A LOT of credit and IDK if I can do that 100% lmao, that’s just what I hope. Anyways, the song is a bop to me and I see a lot of non IVE fans really like it too. Even the reaction videos have been fairly positive. It definitely grows on you, I’ve been looping it all day and I am not tired of it.

      You explained it really well. Coming off of the hate train they received, people who have convinced themselves that they don't like IVE based off of edits they watched will really not give their future releases a chance and will immediately call them a flop. Am I saying that this is their best release? As far as I'm seeing the answer is no. Is it bad? No. It's just different from what they usually sound which is always the case for IVE's b-sides vs their title tracks. Now the perception and outcome of this hate train I think is what pisses the non-Korean KPOP consumers the most. Why? Coz they're expecting people to drop IVE after all that's happened but it's clearly not the case. They remained practically pristine in South Korea (with impressive chart position) and gaining more traction outside Korea even though this release had little to no promotion. People will grab the chance to hate on them after showing even the littlest sign of decline. Case in point, Kitsch debuted at #18 in MelOn which is lower than After LIKE's #9 debut. They already started calling them flops especially on twitter only for Kitsch to rise to #1 before the day ended. And because of this, I agree with that one comment saying that the biggest crime in KPOP is being successful.

      I think Starship might have been okay with releasing this song with such few Liz lines bc she'll have plenty in their title track and album overall. I assume this was recorded like all the the bsides and only after the album was recorded it was decided to release Kitsch as the pre-release. If this was just another bside on the album, Liz's lack of lines on this ONE song would not have turned into such a big controversy. Its just unfortunate they couldn't see this coming, esp bc the Liz mistreatment theory has been circulating since last year.

    not your girl and blue blood received pretty good feedback, especially blue blood (which are two unreleased songs from the comeback), so i really don’t get why some people are saying ive flopped because of kitsch when it’s just one song (that’s not even as bad as people are making it seem).

    Ive had two comebacks before, with two highly successful singles, and no one flinched. Maybe a little for the unequal nature of the members distribution and screentime, but not because of the music. Now they're being critiqued rightfully for a bad song with little dynamics, bad production decisions, confusing lyrics, and a misunderstood couple of beat switches that had bad build (just like Taejiu said) ((Also, how do you make your main vocalist the member with the least lines?!)) It's one bad song, and it's not the end of the world, but also people are allowed to critique with fairness to the artists. We should be allowed to say that this, or any other song is bad, with arguments and being kind. The problem isn't the view about a song, but the hate that flies between fandoms, wishing each other the worst, and wrongfully labeling anything as a "flop", a "careerkiller" or something like that. We should be targeting toxic fan (and critics) behavior, specially the hateful discourses, not critique and analysis itself.

    honestly, this song is probably my favourite out of all of ive's released songs (wave is a VERY close second) and i feel as though a lot of the hate/criticism to this song lies in a general misunderstanding of this concept. to me, the song's melody and the infamous "chorus" that everybody has a general distaste for is a direct parallel to the song title's meaning: kitsch. kitsch is something gaudy, over the top, camp, and is so tacky that it possesses a certain beauty to it, like an overfilled over-ornamented house. add in a touch of grunge preppy school girl 90's influence taken from its lyric "19's" and you have kitsch. it's an amalgamation of the 90's maximalist grunge edge feel and a splash of irresistible preppy school girl charm in a tackily endearing way.
    the verses and choruses are very reminiscent of the 90's in their own unique ways. the verses and the pre-choruses has that poppy, melodramatic, nostalgic feel that most 90's love songs envoke in its melody. the chorus, however, is a very dark and grunge type of melody that is also very reminiscent of the 90's music which showcased a TON of dark and hip-hop songs during its time. it's the switch up from this sweet sounding, nostalgic memory to the anti-drop of harsh sounds and strong, rap-like chants that shows the real kitsch - the tackiness of the mixture of this two completely opposing sounds is what makes kitsch, kitsch.

    I think Kpop fans should listen to releases more than once. It can change your perspective on a song. The first time I listened to Kitsch, I was like “um…this is interesting”. Now I find it extremely catchy, and fits Ive really well.

    Honestly, the only glaring problem I have with the song is the weird whistling that's in it. The beginning starting with it, it being part of the chorus, it just doesn't add ANYTHING good to the song. It could have been left out and it would have been fine, or even BETTER, and that's knowing the rap would be left in. That weird whistling sound is just UGH

    i personally enjoy kitsch. the lack of cohesion made it really interesting to me, and the chorus is actually my favorite part of the song. the one thing that takes me out is definitely the rap though.

    That m/v is so good and its just a b side
    Idk what so many people talking about

    i immediately liked it lmao maybe because it's a b-side i think it doesn't have to be a perfect song so i like it as it is, most groups experiment more with b-sides than the title track so i don't take b-sides very seriously because i know i might not like all of them. but i think it being a pre-release single makes everyone think they should be _super_ dramatic if they don't like it because they assume it's a title track and are foaming at the mouths to say that any girl group fell off

    I love Kitsch but only thing i don't like about it is line distribution. They just gave a main vocalist 5.7 seconds!!!! like starship are you fxcking kidding me??

    i don't think liz's lack of lines and screen time is for her weight gain. or, at least, not the main reason.
    many people complain that sse gives too much to wonyoung and yujin (and arguably rei tool) and that's because they go viral almost for everything. see isn't biased because they want some specific member to be popular, it's more 'who goes viral, we support'.
    i.e.: during eleven, leeseo went viral and eleven won 13 times. so, for love dive, she got a lot of key parts, like the chorus or pre-chorus. then, gaeul went viral during after like and in kitsch, she has the second most lines.
    i'm sure once liz goes viral, sse will push her. maybe liz biased should stop whining (and hating the other members) liz's lack of content and starts to actually hype it.

    Bruh this song is not bad. I love the chant in the chorus....I hate when people expect them to do something that they want them to do... This is just a different style they went with. The only bad thing about it is some have low lines in the songs.. SUPPORT YOUR GROUP AND SPEAK ON THE COMPANY. I understand that but y'all need to be quiet you lucky they doing a ABLUM. I heard 11 songs.... pleasse 🧢 Haters not giving.
