    Great interview!
Interesting factoid from a Medium article. In the 60s, IBM advertised for musicians to become programmers. Their reasoning was that composing and arranging music was similar to writing programs. Being in the field for 30 years I’ve met many programmer/musicians. Good on you, Mikaela!

The girls don't mention any of the various incarnations of Kirsten Hersh / Miki Berenyi / Emma Anderson / Tanya Donelly, i.e. the 90s bands L7, Lush, Belly or Throwing Muses. If you turned on the radio and heard Deluxe by Lush, you'd think it was Hello Mary. If you heard Counting Backwards by Throwing Muses, you'd think it was Hello Mary. One difference, though, is that Mikaela is such a powerful and dominant bass player, and Hello Mary were already writing complex and adventurous songs, before they even turned 20. In the late 90's, lots of bands loved to claim that they were influenced by Radiohead, and we'd laugh. Travis used to say they were like Radiohead, and even Coldplay. We'd just laugh. But when Helena says Hello Mary is influenced by Radiohead, you can hear it. Yup, these three girls do indeed share some musical DNA by the most important band of the last 30 years. They're not bragging at all.

Keep in mind that the Throwing Muses were an early 80s band (Newport, RI) that lasted into the 90s. They pre-date Radiohead by 4 years. They were more than likely influenced by the NY Punk scene and possibly fellow RI band Rash of Stabbings who were big on the Providence scene.
