Etna este unul din simbolurile Siciliei, si din 2013 face parte din Patrimoniul Mondial, fiind unul din cele 7 obiective turistice UNESCO ale insulei. Este cel mai inalt si cel mai activ vulcan din Europa. Muntele este poziționat exact in locul in care se întâlnește placa tectonica europeana cu cea africana. Se estimează că vulcanul erupe la fiecare 3 luni. Vulcanul Etna este singurul loc in care notiunile de timp si spatiu nu se regasesc, este singurul loc care poate genera atatea sentimente contradictorii, este singurul loc care emana atat furie, dezlantuire haotica a naturii, cat si descatusare a emotiilor, libertate, putere.
