Completed in 1866, East Block was the original home of Canada’s executive branch of government - the Governor General, Prime Minister and Cabinet. It was designed to be the most elaborate of the three Parliament Buildings to reflect the status of its occupants. Currently, East Block houses senators’ offices, as well as four heritage rooms, which have been recreated and restored to their 1872 appearance.
