Worth mentioning - this charger has a fairly high output, is a CAN buss charger, and it will do lead acid and lithium chemistries. There are not many other chargers on the market that will do all of that at that output power. Nice review.

This charger has saved my battery from dying. I had a different charger from BMW, but it didn't do a proper job. Started to experience starting issues. Have it for about 3 years and keep the bike on it 24/7. My orginal bmw battery of the gsa still works like a charm.

Ben, I take delivery of my new BMW Scrambler today (Exciting). SO, this video is really timely for me. Since It's still winter in the Northern USA where I live and the bike's going to be sitting for awhile. Is this unit you're talking about performing the function of a "trickle charger?" Where if the bike is going to be sitting for a few months you'd want to have this attached the whole time so the battery doesn't die?? Or is this only if the battery has already gone dead??

These chargers are used my bmw dealers so you could keep them on. I haven't tried that. I onky charge when I need too. Congrats on your new bike. I'm sure your delighted. This is the best charger I've bought and it's easy to use.

Nice video and instructions. I just received this charger today and tried on my GS310 with AGM battery/Lead and tried on my R1250GS which has a Lithium battery. One thing to be super careful at is that this charger won’t detect the type of battery. you have to change the Battery Mode either Lead or Lithium. I noticed that with Lithium battery once it fully charged it dont to do the trickle charging.Maybe its just because its just few months old. Any thoughts?

Do you find that it doesn’t go to sleep once the battery reaches 100%? On my 1300 it goes to 100% and stays there connected to Canbus. Tried directly on the battery and it goes to sleep.
Had it work once with Canbus where it went to maintenance mode.
Very frustrating considering I bought it specifically to leave connected to the bike for extended periods when the bike isn’t being used.

Hi There, I am not familiar with that charger. I had a look at it online and it seems well made. Looks fairly straight forward to use. If its anything like the BMW charger is probably about the same as the the BMW charger is excellent.

Great video, thank you very much. However I do have a question. After it has reached FULL CHARGE, is it OK to leave the charger hooked up indefinitely?

  • @mylifebehindbars

Does your charger go to sleep after the charge completes?
On my 1300GS it doesn’t via Canbus. Only if I connect directly to the battery.

Not sure if it cuts out when you have it directly connected however there are cables with the pack to do this.

Chargers which are charging at full capacity ALWAYS warm up. When they are in "maintenance mode", they are less warmer or you cannot even feel it so check your chargers temp at different stages. Are you sure that the charger is in te right charging mode for your type of battery..?

I think this is not a good review at all. In fact you manage to fill 10 minutes of time to explain how simple it is to use....? Regarding to the som of info you give, you could have done this video in max 2 minutes. First of all i can't see what the display shows. You don't record that. Next you don't mention/show the tech specs. This charger costs €140 dealerprice... When you look at the Noco Genius 2 charger: it does all the same for half the price.... Get a Noco Genius 10 charger, will cost about €150 but it can work with 6V batteries as wel AND can charge your car battery and gives 10 Amps instead of 2,5 amps.... Okay, you have to set the type of batterie but only once because it has a memory. How often do you use your charger on different types of batteries...? Optimate has a similar charger too, costs less than the BMW re-branded charger. Finally, i don't recommend hanging a working charger near your bike. Screw it to the wall and keep it away from your bike (and away from dropping). For those who are interested in Noco specs, just use Google.

Thank you for your detailed comment. You are entitled to your opinion here. Im sorry to hear you don't think it is. Well bmw have the strap to hand the charger and thats the way it is. Surely if the manufacturer says thsts where it goes then why I would question it. I have always wanted this charger since 2012 so I have been delighted with it since I got it. It really is a simple charger. You plug it in and let it do the rest. I did show plugging it in snd what it will do. You are probably right that it was a long video. It us up to you if you want to watch it all and I have put time stamps in the video if you want to skip forward. You had stated I don't display what the unit shows... Please check the time stamps in the video and select bike demonstration. It seems you missed that one.
