I regularly commute in 0 degrees weather. The heated gloves and jacket are a game changer. A colleague of mine gave me a set that he wasn't using anymore and it was amazing. I'm using them daily right now. Best upgrade ever.

I've ridden my Kawasaki Concours all winter here in the Chicago area, big factory windscreen and heated grips standard, also plugged in directly to the bike (no batteries) with 12 volt heated glove liners ($80,) 12 volt heated jacket ($270,), and 12 volt heated boot insoles ($80.) Legs don't get too cold but thinking of adding heated pants. Below freezing not a problem, just avoid snow and ice, but it gets cold at 160 mph+ speeds no matter what.

Sheepskin for sure, a great upgrade to any bike! Also great in the summer, as the sheepskin stays cooler than any motorcycle seat under the sun. And if you have natural sheepskin it is also water repellent so it's great on wet days too. Finally, if you're out moto camping the sheep skin can be rolled and stuffed into a nylon bag to make a very comfortable pillow. I put sheepskin on all my bikes!

I road for 15 years all year long, now this was the South but the lowest temp i rode in was 25. my bike is a Harley Ultra with only heated hand grips. i found the putting a neck scarf on sealed off the only leak in my gear. i wore leather chaps and a leather motorcycle jacket. the fairing kept the wind off my body and when my hands got cold i just sat on them as a bike is really stable at speed.

one tip for the Keis jacket, based on personal experience. They tend to be pretty big. I'm and L, towards the bigger end, sometimes I need to buy things in XL but for the Kies jacket, I had to get an M to get a nice fit. The L was way loose and I think I saw more ppl around saying the same thing. Best thing is to get two sizes and return one.

All good content. To your ultimate setup, I added the heated pants and even socks! That, plus the wireless heat-troller (which fits nicely in the storage area on your tank) and your main limitation becomes traction.

Put hippo hands on a few years ago. Put them on the night before a cold ride. They were iced over when I started. Put on some cheap slip on grip heaters. Inside the hippos my hands are warm and dry in a snowstorm. The grips have been the biggest help for cold riding.

    Very in-depth video.
One thing that isn't mentioned is alterations to the bike itself. Specifically the tyres.
You must have a soft rubber compound tyre when the temps get below freezing. Heidenau K60 or similar tyres will not grip in the cold and are extremely dangerous at , or even a little above, freezing.
Also , living in Canada , many of us have snow mobile gear that is great for cold and wind protection but not so great in a crash 🙂

Rocky Mountains in CO here. My set up is similar, without the rather spendy Klim stuff. Wool base layer, top and bottom. Polyprop regular "waffle" long underwear over that (again, top and bottom), if needed. Then, pants - either 21oz denim jeans with chaps, or buffalo leather pants. For upper, a single "Old Navy Performance Fleece" or similar, followed by a traditional "biker" leather jacket. Then I can remove layers as needed - and this setup is good (and tested) to 4 hours on the interstate at -10F. For hands - I don't bother with intermediates. Just get electric gloves made for the purpose. I carry two pair - one regular and one made as a glove liner. This way I have, at a minimum, single redundancy for the gloves and double redundant batteries and chargers.
Feet? Just two pair of wool socks and some boots. I've never needed more. Then again, I ride a Harley, so heat around the engine is plentiful.
Great vid - thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the video! Good advices. Aside from the special gear (many layers) needed to ride in cold environments, I am always concerned about traction. In my car the experience is sometimes scary. I don't even want to think about what would happen to me on a bike under the same conditions. I know many areas are better maintained so my challenges are not a broad problem.

Hi I have done many winter rides in India wer temperature very from(-5to-25 degrees Celsius) heated grips are must nd some kind of seat insulation nd i would suggest that u can also use an upper rain liner it will provide u with lots of insulation it's one of the best thing to have, but i suggest not to use to much hitec gears for insulation sometime wen u run out of power nd ur body will not be able to produce heat fast enough as u will b providing it with artificial heat so jst use the hitec gears as minimal as possible and for all the riders out there ride safe nd explore the beautiful Nature

I have a question if I’m 177cm and 73-74 kg and I tried the size 50 and 48 from Rukka… the size 48 it’s a sport on jacket but the 50 it’s a bit bigger… with the midlayer and some body sweater, for which one should I go? And maybe I would don’t ride that much below 0 as well… so maybe I won’t use that much midlayer jacket. Thank you and all the best 🍻
