  • Hi everyone! This video is regarding HDR Gaming/Tone Mapping.
I've been testing out numerous HDR settings, and creating my own LUT's per game to see what was ideal for OBS, including using OBS's HDR Tone Mapping, and the Elgato's Capture Card Tone Mapping. While Tone Mapping still needs a lot of work via OBS with the option s for PC, and 100% lacks on Mac OS as it's auto, there is still LUT's to help. I did try another's HDR to SDR LUT, and I wasn't happy with it, because people looked orange, and last thing I want is my content in the video to look awful. So I made my own.
In my video I show different settings, and also how to make your own LUT's. I am using OBS, on a windows PC, and Affinity Photo 2. Both of these software are available on PC, and Macs. I hope this helps those who want to stream/recording in HDR. I personally editing in HDR mode, and then made sure my LUT's were good in HDR mode and SDR mode. You might want to do this on Macs using LUT's.
    Please note:
Not everyone has HDR so it may look oversaturated, or washed out. Some only have HDR 400 nits, HDR 600 nits, and the standard HDR10 which is 1000 nits. Unless you have an HDR monitor or TV that is HDR10, there is going to be issues. Also factor in colorblind people, as what you see as teal, or blue, they may see as green. So many variables. I personally will be sticking to SDR, as it's not been perfected yet, and mostly nobody streams in HDR. I could game in HDR, and still stream in SDR, by using a color space Rec. 709 and the game will be in SDR for my stream, while I'm gaming in HDR.
For PC people with the Capture Card, you can use Rec. 2100 (PQ) HDR Tonemapping, but the colors will be oversaturated in a live stream. If you're recording you can change your color format to P010, change your color space to Rec. 2100 (PQ) as well, but you'd leave your color range limited, your profile would change to main10. Now what I found was changing my color space to Rec. 2100 (HLG) looks more natural on the Tonemapping.
Macs don't have this option, as this is what started this rabbit hole. Mac's either use the capture card's Tonemapping, or create your own LUT.
