    Dan, "stealing" is wrong … "leveraging" is perfectly acceptable. BBBWWWAAAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!
    Yet another "stupidly brilliant" idea (and in a 3-min video): stupid, because I should have thought of it and brilliant, well, because it is such a good idea. I look forward to giving it a try, but I am already a little concerned about the ability of this system to adjust the height between the pot and fire.

    Borrowed comes to mind, thx for the vid. Like some of your other commentors, learned this in the boy scouts 50 + yrs ago, but we always used multiple notches to elevate above the fire.

    Neat one San. But how do you adjust for height? Craft another shorter/longer stick?
    Now, when I was in Boy Scouts we had a Scoutmaster who sort of "cheated" a bit now and then.
    Here's his idea, that I also stole!
    In those years. the use of mattress chain was universal, so it was dirt cheap (still is!), and readily available (I nicked mine from Dad's garage). All one needs is a length (for a tripod stand about 4 ft) with a strong wire hook at each end. One merely loops the chain around one of the upper legs and hangs the pot from the lower hook. To adjust, just release the upper hook, move it to the preferred height and hook it into the chain.
    One can also use regular chain that is reasonably thin, to save on weight. The concept is the same.
    The beauty is that it is compact, easy to pack and always ready to use.
    Cheers mate!

    Dude, really? Learned that hang in cub scouts over 50 years ago. Where have you been, stranded on a desert island? Sorry to be so blunt. Actually it saddens me that 10 year old boys don't know such things. Every time I'm in the woods with my grandchildren I share what little knowledge I have. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with kids who don't have cavemen for granfathers.

    Wait you mean I was right doing it wrong all these years? I had pots fall off when I didn't make my notch deeper so I started carving it deeper, maybe not quite as deep though.

    I use the typical bail (beak) notch on the J branch the same way. The simplified notch would probably be easier for new students to learn. good stuff Dan.

    • @mlsknnr
      @mlsknnr 5 лет назад +1

      If you use it for a heavy pot, you might want to run a frap around the hanger below the notch so the weight doesn't split it. Learned from experience.

    Dan, isn't 'that a 7 notch?

    • @BobSprGa
      @BobSprGa 5 лет назад

      A typical 7 notch has a stop cut at 90 degrees. This has a slanted stop cut. But I think a good name for it would be 'An undercut 7 notch'.
