First year coaching jav and I've been using a ton of your videos. Happy to say I have three kids qualified for the state championships this year in Jav!

I’ve been using your videos for a few years to get better at the Jav. I’m 71 years old and compete in a National Championship with the VA. I am the type of person that strives for continuous improvement but I find it difficult at times due to age. Two years ago I won a Bronze medal in Javelin, and last year a Silver medal! I also throw Discus and Shot, but I don’t spin because of vertigo. I’m training for this year’s Games in Salt Lake City in late August and and advice from you would be awesome! I don’t want to get older, just better! Thanks in advance, Mike

Thanks Mike! Getting better can happen from a lot of things. Be more flexible, more fit, faster on the runway, increased range of motion, better posture, a change in grip, more hip and shoulder separation, being well rested before a competition or have better weather. Another area might be equipment like spikes and/or a better javelin. There’s a lot to choose from or simply choose a few you can combine and see if you can increase your distance that way. As I get older, being more fit, more flexible and focused on efficient technique has helped me a lot. I wish you all the best!

I think that landing on the heel creates a similar tendency to collapse from the knee, because of momentum or inertia. My preference as well is a foot landing flat. But no only. If We rotate the point of the left foot slightly to the right (pointing at one o clock instead of tweve o clock), that helps strenghten the block due to hip internal rotation.

Hey coach I was wondering if there is a drill to get my hips out before my arm. I have been struggling with this lately. Your videos are very helpful

Only two athletes have thrown over 95 meters. I won’t say it is impossible because humans are capable of incredible things. Set your goals and make a plan then take action. Consistent work over time will give you the best outcome. Be healthy and work hard! I wish you the best 👍🏻
