This will be the first year of training my new larch forest so i am watching all your larch videos again. Thanks to you i now have an idea what needs to be done. Thanks Nigel !
Hi nigal great video one of my new show ready larch iv recently purchased from Japan has perfect pads etc it was abit confusing to start with because like you I always leave abit of new branch from the Rosset on my larches in training but to maintain the shape and ramification in the pads on the show larch iv got to take all the new growth off right down to the first Rosset bud on the branch to maintain the structure of the tree it'll always grow in from the same bud every year if you do so you always have a fresh years growth on the first Rosset for ramification I'd love to show you a photo of what I mean? you can maybe start applying this to the apexes of your larches to get the ramification on top while pruning at the same time to push energy down to the lower branches let them grow wild for the rest of the year and keep pruning back to first Rosset on the apex it works good for larches
I love the creativity of your forest plantings great work! I have not tried to work with Larch before what breed are you using European Larch or Japanese Larch ?
Growing Things I really like them. they are very hardy trees and can take quit severe root pruning if done at the right time of year. They like lots of water, but will also survive with more limited watering. The trees are great in full sun, or slight shade. They have great fall colours and when they lose their needles, they can be worked on easily.
mohannad al madanie I'm thinking of doing a desert oasis in future, I don't have a Saudi Arabia style planting. I'll have to do some research and think up some ideas. I've found some pictures on the internet of native trees to Saudi Arabia.
Nigel Saunders you know Saudi Arabia famous of palm trees and i think palm tree it is difficult to be bonsai what i meant that adding small water wheel ,waterfall some thing like that sure you will need small water pump it is new idea especially if you were selling your products thanks
mohannad al madanie I think a little water fall would look good. I'm going to check the internet for bonsai palm trees. I'm sure someone has tried it! Bonsai is just a hobby for me, I don't think I could part with any of my trees!

Scottish Bonsai Wow, awesome roots on your Larch! Some amazing pics on your Google plus.
I’ve just ordered some straight and curved surgical scissors from EBay. Thanks for the tip.
They work really well, the ones I got needed sharpening, I used a small file and fine wet sandpaper.

Growing Things The trees are the native North American Larches. They were collected by a club member 15 years ago as small saplings.
