So I was in Melbourne Fla this past weekend talking to a guy with a nice beach fishing cart visiting from NY. When I told him I had a place in OBA his first words were, “Do you ever watch Bama Beach Bum fishing videos?” I said I watch them every week. Your audience is reaching to NY.!! Keep it up.! Loved this video!
Great day, Matthew. Love whiting. My dad, my brother and I must have caught hundreds out of the Galveston surf when I was a kid. The family would eat everything but the heads. My mother would batter up the backbones and fry them too. She said that was the best tasting meat on the fish, and she wasn’t wrong.
I loved hearing you say: "America! America!" when the blue angels flew over, last week they flew over the VA hospital where I work! Man, I have caught some 14 inch and one 15 inch behind the plantation shores, but those were some of the biggest whiting I have ever seen! Great Video!
Whiting was the first fish I landed surf fishing. I knew what it was because of your channel. Congrats, your killing em. And thanks for showing your rigs. That helps a lot too!
Awesome day of fishing. Thanks for sharing. They're in thick right now, spawning. Fished New Smyrna Beach, FL, last week and hooked up with sixteen whiting. Six or seven of them were at 16". Nothing under 12". Love this time of the year for whiting. No pomps but a great day of fishing.
Your enthusiasm is infectious! My 24yo son has been talking about starting to do some surf fishing after making a couple trips with a friend. He and I just updated some older tackle I have and we plan to start heading out together when our schedules line up. Turned him onto your channel and he is a huge fan now too. Keep the great videos coming.
Great video! How do you feel about the Okuma rods with heavier weights? I am on the East coast of FL and we typically have to use a little heavier weights to hold. Really interested in the 11 and 12 foot, but quite a few reviews using 3-4 oz weights are causing failures.
Way to go Matt, great fish on light tackle . So much fun this way. You are still down to earth ,as some others (a bit newer ) have become too full of them self. Glad you and yer family are safe . Thanks for yer videos, Tom Daytona Beach, FL.
A quick simple way to cook those is to put the fish (after you clean them of coarse) and some Italian dressing in a zip lock bag and soak them overnight. Then put them in a broiling pan with a slice of lemon on top and bake them until done. Sometimes I put the oven on broil to get a little bit of a crispy edge and yummy they're good to go.
What's the surf water temperature there now? It's amazing how different our seasons are. Here in NE FL we catch the bull whiting in water mid-60's to low 70's, which means our bull whiting season (and pompano) is over with temps now cracking into upper 70's. I hit the bulls in mid-March with water about 68, and it worked out to make whiting a primary protein source for us throughout the beginning of the COVID quarantine. Still have one frozen package left! Love eating whiting with citrus-datil pepper rub.
Best video I’ve ever seen for whiting. In my life I have only caught one whiting that was 16 inched and that was last summer. Whiting are absolutely delicious! Great job with this video. I wish I could use such light tackle in the surf up here in NC. If I get to use weights less than 4” I feel lucky. Our whiting are all the northern variety. S,C. Fisherman can get the southern I think. Great to see this from the beac and not the golf course. Lol. Love to see you cook up those beauties so I can vicariously enjoy them with you!
You can absolutely use light tackle in the NC surf, even lighter than the SST rods he is using. I've caught plenty of big whiting, slot drum, etc. on 7' spinning rods that will barely put 1oz out, plus surf flounder on carolina rigs, and tons of smaller fish for bait on a 6' Abu ultralight that has now rusted completely away from the saltwater. CALO, Hatteras, Ocracoke, Kure/Carolina, Fort Fisher, Oak Island. Sure it's not going to work in big surf or in the conga line, but if you have a slough within 20yds or so, you can slay fish and it's WAY more fun than bringing them in on heavy surf equipment.
I’ve enjoyed your content. Fished the gulf for the first time last week in Destin. Put a lot of your tips to use. Thank you. Missed the pomp, but got a few whiting. Delicious tacos. You should make a trip out to San Diego for Corbina some time. Cheers!
I am interested in the single pompano fig you were using you showed at start of video. Do you have a video where you show how you make that rig? If so how long ago was it made so I can find it to study. Thanks
Hey you bum... when I'm fishing close in for whiting, I'm using 1 oz and 2 oz pyramid weights just like you are using... In surf about like we're seeing here it takes my rig on down the beach... Should I just not worry about it or look to pin it. Only a proglem when things are crowded. Thanks Glad you had fun and thanks for sharing.
Another great video. I was down there last week, had a great time on the beach with the kids, loved the Blue Angel shows. Man fishing was tough for me, rough surf and high wind most of the week. Maybe 1/2 a day with low wind. Was hard to find live bait near Fort Morgan. Beautiful beaches though, really enjoyed it.
I had been catching a fair amount of 16-18" whiting recently here in NTB, NC and had no idea that this size is this remarkable. The fillets are sure tasty as you've mentioned. I've enjoyed your content. New sub
If not for the different species and the accent I would have sworn you were fishing up the road from my house here in Queensland, Australia. Sweet session.
I use the steel head rods for everything. Have even caught big uglies and reds on them. Only issue is if 4oz of weight is required, i have done it, but you have to be careful casting so you dont break the rod.
Hey you bum...hope you put her back, but I'm an old softy.... she was a beauty. Wow, it is a banner day for Whiting there. Can't wait to get out there Saturday. Man I'd like to have a day where I just caught 2 or 3 that size. Congratulations man. Thanks for the vids and the information. You're helping my fishing a lot.
I'm sure I watched earlier and gave you congrats on the PB Whiting. I catch them all the time but lots and lots of small one. We are still recovering down here from red algae bloom back in 2018/19. I've caught a couple of keepers but not like it used to be.
I picked up 6 white trout at the fish market yesterday (LOL) waiting for my new scooter batteries to get here so I can get on the water, chomping at the bit (LMAO) 🤣
Down in gulf shores for the week first thing I did was get a rod and license I’m from Ohio only caught hardheaded and a bluefish so far can’t wait to hook into something else fist time fishing like this
I was born in Florida there we called the whiting, I live on the coast of NC now here they are called sea mullet does not matter what they are called they are good to eat.
I’m planning on taking the family to gulf shores in October. I’d like to possibly set up something for us with you let me know how I can do that thanks love your channel
I caught one in Panama City in August one year that was a monster. It was massive and 20”-22”. It was about 10 yrs ago. I knew it was big, but I never realized how big of a fish I had. I wish I would have kept and weighed it and then possibly reported the catch. I didn’t know back then how big of a fish I had caught. Most are 12 to 15. I have a pic somewhere though. 🤦🏻♂️😢
Congratulations on your PB and how about the freakin Blue Angels fly over I would have to say best day fishing ever. Thanks for the great videos and keep them coming
Blue angels= PB
What’s really underrated... your channel. Really hope your channel blows up, much deserved for the quality content. God bless!
@Brary Biblio LMAO! How many subscribers do you have? I checked 18. What a stupid comment you made!
I agree. Bama Beach Bumm is really fun to watch!
agree 1million percent great videos and its something ANYONE can go and do. a rod and reel and yourself and you can have a blast

The Blue Angel's fly by while you were really that fish in gave me frickin chill! So freaking awesome!
At 9:09 I think that might be the first time I’ve heard somebody say 2020 was a good year! All about perspective my friend! Congratulations
Great year for Bama!
PB whiting, PB drum, PB permit, PB sheepshead, PB trout
Keep tearing em up, and stay bummy!

Interesting tidbit. In North Carolina we call small red drum/fish puppy drum. It's neat to see what fish are called in different areas.
Whiting was the first fish I landed surf fishing. I knew what it was because of your channel. Congrats, your killing em. And thanks for showing your rigs. That helps a lot too!
I'm happy to see you throw back what you don't need. Some guys just cant help themselves and keep everything they catch.
Used to watch them practice as a kid while doing weekend overnights at Ft Pickens pier back in the 90s. Awesome fishing growing up there.
My childhood was fried whiting, croakers, spots, yellow tails( silver perch ), mullets, etc. and it was good!

Love watching your channel, you have taught me so much on surf fishing, thanks for showing this old dog some new tricks

Blue Angels! The sound of freedom! 🇺🇸 Thanks for another good session! 🤙
I get so much enjoyment out of watching you get excited about surf fishing
I couldn’t find any sandfleas this month when do you normally get them
Try early in the morning with a calm surf.
Thanks brother. You lift me in this sometimes dark world.
Love ya
I love the sound of the ocean in your videos and that's a beautiful whiting you caught.Keep making those videos.
Your videos are awesome dude... I finally found the Wright & McGill's. What's the length, power & action on yours?
Great video. I really appreciate the minute or so that you spent in the beginning going over your gear.
Clear skies, calm waters, Blue Angles and PB Whiting. I call that an awesome day! 🕶🤙🇺🇸
Congrats for an awesome day at the beach catching PBs. Take care.

Love whiting, croaker, and pompano. Lady fish are fun for catch and release.
Blue Angel's baby!! What is a good all around surf rod? Looking at Shakespeare bug water I think...seemed overkill! 12ft.
Thanks. Greg Pensacola
I’ve enjoyed your content. Fished the gulf for the first time last week in Destin. Put a lot of your tips to use. Thank you. Missed the pomp, but got a few whiting. Delicious tacos. You should make a trip out to San Diego for Corbina some time. Cheers!
Love your enthusiasm and patriotism
Awesome vid, whiting truly are underrated... they put up a great fight and taste really good as well and you can catch them right on the beach.
One of the best vids yet! Blue Angels was awesome 🤙🏼 and thanks for going over what you had on your rig
Those were some huge spotted gar!! They might be good for nothing but they do fight good!! Great video. And much improved trailer backing BB!!!
I am interested in the single pompano fig you were using you showed at start of video. Do you have a video where you show how you make that rig? If so how long ago was it made so I can find it to study. Thanks
Awesome video. Really enjoy watching. The Blue Angels flyover was the icing on the cake. So proud to be an American. God bless.

Crazy question: how about staying at state park in gulf shores camping and fishing surf. Any feedback appreciated
Bama what is the best fishing rods and reel for the pier
Another great video. I was down there last week, had a great time on the beach with the kids, loved the Blue Angel shows. Man fishing was tough for me, rough surf and high wind most of the week. Maybe 1/2 a day with low wind. Was hard to find live bait near Fort Morgan. Beautiful beaches though, really enjoyed it.
UnderFortyYards I’d probably use anything they sold at The Pines or marina to keep from having to drive into town once I got down there.
Great day at the beach. You hit the honey hole on the big whitening. Take care and stay safe.
Way to go Matt on that PB Whiting 💪💪💪👍
I used to catch big whiting out the mouth of Canaveral Inlet by the channel marker buoys. Awesome eating, good fun.
I'll be staying on Orange beach this weekend, I'm going to give surf fishing a try
Do it! It's so much fun!
Get there early, and avoid the crowds. Good luck!
Congrats on another PB. Looked like you could barely keep up, lol. Great times!! Have a good one Matt👍
Nice work, man. What make / model are your steelhead rods?
I had been catching a fair amount of 16-18" whiting recently here in NTB, NC and had no idea that this size is this remarkable. The fillets are sure tasty as you've mentioned. I've enjoyed your content. New sub
Love your videos everytime bro... Makes me want to get out and cast but here in Barbados we only got 3hrs beach time due to this pandemic
If not for the different species and the accent I would have sworn you were fishing up the road from my house here in Queensland, Australia. Sweet session.
What size hooks are you using?
What sunnys are you using.
I went last weekend at Santa Rosa Beach and caught 3 over 15 and one over 16. Awesome fish and incredible eats!! Keep it up man!
Great video and shared to the masses! Thanks for putting this out.
Great video again! Glad you are back on the beach. Noticed you use different sand spikes. Which kind/brand are your favorite?
What Steelhead rod are you using?
I use the steel head rods for everything. Have even caught big uglies and reds on them. Only issue is if 4oz of weight is required, i have done it, but you have to be careful casting so you dont break the rod.
Another good video, BUT...How far out from the beach is "not far at all" please? 20yds, 30, 40?
Hey you bum...hope you put her back, but I'm an old softy.... she was a beauty. Wow, it is a banner day for Whiting there. Can't wait to get out there Saturday. Man I'd like to have a day where I just caught 2 or 3 that size. Congratulations man. Thanks for the vids and the information. You're helping my fishing a lot.
Glad to see I'm not the only guy screaming America! like an idiot when the Blues' fly over, lol!
what diameter is your hook line?
Our drum in NC have to be between 18" and 28" to be legal, those to you caught would be considered to small
Not drum
Whoo! Merica! I love it! Great job! Love your videos. Keep them coming please.
Are the Jellyfish out yet? I saw the water temp jump 5 degrees in 5 days. I think it will be an early jelly season this year.
I caught 6 2+ lb whiting this Summer in Buxton NC
Awesome video once again man! Congrats on that pb whiting!!
Keep up the great videos!! How do you typically set your drag when fishing with your drop rigs?
I love catching big Whiting. My PB is only 15 inches, and yet I caught it on nightcrawler. Have you ever used them in the surf?
What time do you like to start in the morning?
Nice fishing day , I wonder can anybody to use 4 fishing rods same time , regulations allow that ?
Down in gulf shores for the week first thing I did was get a rod and license I’m from Ohio only caught hardheaded and a bluefish so far can’t wait to hook into something else fist time fishing like this
