Thanks for this vid.. Ordered the sv08 and in the meantime learning/purchasing a lot about/for it. Is my 2nd printer in many years this seemed to me a good follow up. Today I'll get my new emmc so can do the mainline, when it arrives I can make a backup config files for the serial numbers.. install the new emmc in and install Klipper and rest on it. Then only thing left is flashing the toolhead..so from start getting the printer it will have mainline.then after first boot All the initial settings/calibrations will be done with having mainline. Lateron I'll get additional 3 toolheads and need to flash them too.. But that can wait for future project(multi toolhead). I will however try to get a long enough usb cable to get to the printer from my pc instead of a laptop because I only have my wife's laptop and I think this way I won't need it. 🤷 Have still to figure out how to download the instructions for printing from github😁Again thanks..
Sounds like a fun project you have planned. I would like to do a multi-tool head setup. Not sure if that will be with a SV08 or if I'll use that as an excuse to buy another Voron 2.4. Keep me posted on your progress! Thanks for watching.
I would think it would work, but have not confirmed as I didn’t need to convert. Please let me know if it does work and I’ll add that information in my description as an option.
Thanks for the video! I just got main line installed, all is working well but my z offset resets to 0 after any form of klipper restart (including running Save_Config). i triple checked to make sure i did everything 100% just as the git hub instructions said. i have also noticed that my heightmaps get removed after a reboot as well... any ideas?
When you set your offset what are you running to do that? Probe_calibrate? Or the sovol macro for Z-offset? I would run a Probe_calibrate, do the paper test to set your offset. Then before you do a save_config write down the offset you settled at. Then do your save_config. Go into your Printer.cfg all the way down to the ----- save config----- do not edit this block or below and see what is showing on in the probe section - that should show your correct offset. Trying to figure out some sort of common ground to help you troubleshoot. So I'm just curious what will be listed there. For the Bed Mesh, same deal towards the bottom of your Printer.cfg are you seeing a [bed_mesh default]? Or is it blank?
No worries at all! The main benefit to upgrading to mainline klipper is expanded options. With the sovol fork you are stuck to whatever updates they choose to push out for it. With moving to mainline klipper you can utilize probes like the eddy coil. Or benefit from updates as they become available. In a lot of ways moving to mainline just opens the door to options to tinker, build and improve a printer that has a lot of potential. It's not a requirement by any means, but those would be the main reasons.
Sovol has a 1 year warranty on manufacturer defects. Sv08 they market as Open Source, compile & modify & upgrade. In most cases any changes to a 3d printer usually causes issues with warranties. But with Sovols marketing on the SV08 that may not be the case. I've sent them an email, waiting on a response. I'll post an update here once I receive. The way I have interpreted the SV08 marketing is - they designed it to be open source and upgradable like the Voron 2.4 it's based on. I will get you an official answer though from Sovol.
How do you get the .zip backup saved off of Mainsail so you can copy these portions? There a quite a few steps skipped in you video. I am having to use another video and the instructions all together go get through this. One good thorough video would be much better for people that don't do this stuff very often.
That was the goal - to make a more through video. Appreciate your feedback there. For saving your backup files, from mainsail. Click on the machine tab. Once there check your current path - /config is what should be listed. Next to name click the checkbox, that will highlight everything. Then click the blue cloud icon that is the download icon. That will save it to where you have your browser sending your downloads - usually the download folder.
@@ThePrintasaurus Thank you for the quick response. I ended up putting the old EMMC back on it. Opening the cfg file from within mainsail. Copied the text and created a new text file with Notepadd++. Pasted all of the text and saved it to my desktop as config.cfg. Then used this file to get my mcu lines coppied to the new emmc after swapping it back in. This is still a painful process if you don't do this a lot.
@@KS_Husker Awesome, glad you were able to get your info you needed. Yes this is not the easiest thing to do so hang in there! Let me know if you have any other questions. You can send me an email if you like. theprintasaurus@gmail.com
It really depends on what you are looking to do. Mainline Klipper allows more frequent updates, new features potentially. The Sovol fork isn't going to be as up to date, and may take longer to resolve any bug issues, etc. Another benefit to mainline klipper is the ability to modify more freely. An example would be upgrading your probe to a eddy coil. This is supported now on mainline, and is not support on the sovol fork. So overall it really just depends on what you are wanting to do with your printer.
I was trying to figure out what I'd done to my SV08, when I SSH into SPI-XI I see /: usage as 62% of 6.8G which means I never got around to installing the 32GB EMMC?
That is on my to do list, upgrading to a 32gb mmc. The standard one is 8gb I believe, not much to work with. Do you have a lot of time lapses saved? I had to delete those, I recovered a good deal of space before my upgrade to mainline.
Yes the z offset is saving correctly now. That was one of the main driving factors to moving to mainline klipper. Ultimately to run a different probe (eddy coil). But z-offset was improved significantly. I use probe_calibrate, when you move to mainline you have to do a bit of work to get the sovol macros all to work - one that doesn't work right away after moving over is there calibration macro for the offset. Probe_calibrate is what I use on pretty much all my klipper printers, so I wasn't dependant on that macro working. I plan to go through and do a video on how to get them all configured correctly as I have had a few ask!

It shows it is 100% on the dashboard though. Also what profile are you using in Orca after the switch to mainline, still use the SV08 one built into Orca?

@@Pileot What version of klipper are you trying to install? Since I released this video a new version is out and a "caution" added that V.3.0+ is currently being tested. Use V2.3.4 if you can. To set up the system.cfg for an ethernet connection, you need to ensure the "eth" parameter is enabled in the "check_interval" line within the system.cfg file, typically set to "check_interval=5 (you can set this interval longer to allow more time to attempt to connect) then below eth=eth0 (this maybe eth1 depending on how the mainboard identifies the adapter) So I would make sure this line isn't commented out for some reason, change it to eth1 and try again if eth0 didn't work with an interval change.
