After watching the video a few thoughts... 1. You have been holding out on us, Chris. I see that Chevy in the background 2. Loved the extra editing touches in the video. 3. Shop tour with specialty tools and favorite tool brands along with future plans as far as tool organization and purchases would make a GREAT video. 4. Thanks for the informative video. 5. Where is Kris hiding? Did you subordinate him again! Lol
Great feedback Josh! 1. That's Chris's wife's GMC Yukon 2. Thanks for noticing, we always are trying make better, higher quality videos 3. That's a good idea for a video, we will keep that in mind 4. Thanks for watching, we really do appreciate it! 5. Kris is probably tucked in a small hiding hole somewhere waiting to pop out 🤣
The videos do keep getting better.. can't wait to see that beautiful piece in ranger.. definitely a legit build.. thank you.. now I get to dream about building my d60.. its time for some upgrades to it.. 100%stock 4.11.. hope to do 4.56 and locker and 35 spline before spring..
Awesome video. I bought a td machine pinion depth gauge which is awesome, but setting up the depth on a third member looks a lot easier than a traditional axle housing. Looking forward to seeing the rest of this series for sure. I’m going to check out Tru high 9 because I was thinking of spidertrax axle housings for my Jeep.
RecklessWrenchGarage agreed! That’s why I spent the money on that tool. Takes out the guess work and throwing tools across the shop and smashing things with a hammer 😂
Is there a reason why you put the oring on before getting your pinion shipped properly Also is there any kind of girdle for the carrier bearing caps I have seen 2, 9 inches brake the caps thanks
Did you put a new pinion nut on after removing the first one? As far as I know, the pinion nut is a one time use and can't be reused after removing due to the factory lock tite on the nut. I use an old nut to set preload/depth and then use the new one for final install.
Hi! Cool channel! I was wondering when you you post about comparing radius arms to your new 3 link? You mentioned doing a video on it. I am debating the same change to my F150 with radius arms. Thanks!
Thanks for watching! I am still getting some miles on the new front suspension and I'll be able to make the video soon hopefully! The covid-19 slowed some things down but that video is in the works
I just ordered my hi9 for the rear and want to know if the 3rd member has a drain or if I would need to install a drain plug on the housing like I saw in one of your other video's?
There is a drain plug on the third member, so you don't have to put one in the housing. I'm jealous you have one for the rear, I want another for the rear axle
@@RecklessWrenchGarage awesome! Good to know! Yeah, I'm super excited to get my TJ back together! Wasn't my plan to do this right now, but unfortunate situations in the rear and solutions were needed! Thanks for the info. Hope to see you out in the Puerco some day.
What is the price for the whole kit from Hi9 I'm really interested I'm trying to ditch my ford 8.8 from my 95 bronco(due to my axle shafts coming out from the axle itself maybe my axle is done for) and upgrade to a ford 9 inch but I need the high pinion clearance for when I go do some crawling I don't have to worry to much about a rock hitting the low pinion version a high pinion will give me more ease when crawling up in big bear
I would suggest reaching out to Hi9 to ask. It has been a while since this was put together and prices for most things have changed the last few years.
Cycling fluid faster doesn’t cool it, it actually increases temps. If you cycle it through a cooler, that’s another story, but I wouldn’t say it’s necessary.
Hua I wonder how this would do in a drag racing application tbh. Looks pretty dam strong and I’m assuming would definitely shave some weight off your standard 9” or 14bolt setup and unsprung weight is killer does hi 9 make a billet third or cast aluminum one?
Did you say Hi 9 told you the load bolt would have .150 inch clearance between the ring gear and load bolt? Over 1/8 inch? If the ring gear ever deflected over 1/8 inch, you would need to order a new 3rd member, because yours would be scrap metal! Perhaps Hi 9 meant to say .015" ?
Sorry but from time to time , I might ask a question that's out there , but I come from a racing round track family . And I haven't really met anyone around me to pick there minds about 4x4's . I did however take my CJ7 into a shop for the death wobble . And $1,600 later still had it .
Awesome build guys 😎 Definitely better with both K/Chris's . Are you selling the Dana 44 ? How much if you are ? I think it would be perfect for my Flat Fender project. With one of those Hi 9s for the rear .
@@RecklessWrenchGarage huge fan of the 9"/10" stuff but with the stuburbans weight and power would be better off with a torq14 imo. Have a buddy who was running hi9 front and rear in a yota buggy. Got tired of gear issues and built a rear torq14 hasn't looked back sense
I feel like if the hi 9 stuff is good for ultra 4, it should be good for the Ranger. The 10" parts work in trophy trucks, and if you break that stuff in a trail rig you need to reconsider some life choices 🤣 I have no experience with Torq14 axles, I have just heard unpleasant things about service
What do you think of our new axle build? What do you want to see in this series?
We want to see a video every Sunday. That's what we want. Trump also endorses this message. 🤣😂
We strive to reach that goal, however, we will never sacrifice quality for quantity. Thanks for watching 🤘🏻

glad to see the videos are alittle longer, also glad to see someone is ditching the radius arms
Good video Chris. I'm not a four wheeler but it helps when it comes to detail when working on my Iron horse. Nice shop.
Sweet, really cool they have the 3rd pinion support just like the 14 bolt Chevy.
Yea, whoever designed the 14 bolt did a great job taking the design from the 9”. 😆
Great video, had me laughing with the "wrist shaking tight" torque spec.
I'm glad someone caught that 😂
omg im not the only one who saw that lmao
Thats a really cool piece of hardware! cant wait to see the rest of the build.

Drop out thirds are the way to go with axles! Chris wants to set any axle without a dropout third on fire 🤣

Just beautiful
Hi I want to see EVERYTHING hahahaha I am a big fan. this series is going to be awesome
Cool build. Looks very high quality.
SWEET

Great Vid dude. I am definitely going this route on my JK. There's nothing cool about a low slung drive shaft when you're wheelin over rocks!
I'm planning to bild a 9in front as well and this will help me tremendously dont skip anything if you can help it thanks love yalls channel

Tip… Bearing Caps should be Torqued with mild Heat. To simulate Operating temperatures.
Great video!!
Thank you!
Did you go with a GL-6 gear oil or a GL-5? Currie is recommending the Torco GL6 85w140

How much it the builder kit, vs just buying a set up unit from them?

Would it be a good idea to put a pump on top of one of your tubes ? That way your cycling fluid faster , keeping it cooler ? Or am I over thinking ?
Cycling fluid faster doesn’t cool it, it actually increases temps. If you cycle it through a cooler, that’s another story, but I wouldn’t say it’s necessary.
Can we get a video about the dog?
You didn't setup the carrier bearing preload?
Watch around 8:00
How much is that third member?
Cool video. I was just talking to someone about the hi 9 seems very well made. Do you know why they do not recommend synthetic gear oil?
"A Driver who sometimes makes questionable decisions"
You and me both.😂😂

Hey I’m building an 81 Ford F-150 with super duty axles and am gonna use leafs until I can go coilovers what’s the best leaf for rock crawling?
Custom leafs, or Frankenstein leafs...which could be considered custom.
Okay cool I’ll look into em
1/4 turn = .150" seams a bit much, did you mean .015"?
Who makes the housing?
The housing is a spidertrax piece that will be covered in the next part of this series
1/4 turn out on load bolt gives you .150" clearance? That's over 1/8".

We may be using it for another project but we are not sure yet
He's got the BEEF
I rather use a dial torque wrench not the beam type. On the pinion preload.
light, strong, cheap...pick 2
Like #600
Next upgrade. Gearworks 10. Or torq14 😂
I think the stuburban needs a GW 10
