  • I've only ever reviewed Lufthansa in business class on this channel. But hot off a flight on United, I connected in Frankfurt on Lufthansa on this flight to Malta. What's it like to fly Lufthansa within Europe? Let's find out!

Man I haven’t flown Lufthansa economy since the 737-500 days. I remember it being quite decent too.

Such a bummer. before covid there was a sandwich and drinks included. (I think even vine and beer, but I never had this, so I'm not sure.)

Lufthansa deserves to lose it’s 5 star status.

It already did. At least the Skytrax rating. They’re only a 4 star airline and the economy cabin is even only 3,5 by now.

I flew Lufthansa to Cyprus economy 15 years ago. In those days you got a nice hot meal and beverage. Our flight was delayed 6 hours. The Frankfurt airport is a nightmare. Awful. Most flights in Europe only serve water and tiny chocolate. No fun anymore. Loved Malta / Gozo.

I beleive the 5 star airline you refer to actually means '5 Star Alliance'

No I mean that at the time Skytrax rated Lufthansa as a 5 star airline. After Lufthansa paid Skytrax “consulting fees” to help them rate better. Funny how that works. After filming but before the video went live they were dropped to 4, which is still far too high for our German friends.

I’ve lost most respect for European Airlines. Say what you want about US airlines being terrible, but it’s luxury compared to Europeans. On mainline carriers you’ll always have power outlets, free soft drinks and snacks, actual first class seats, and on soon United and Delta, IFE. There’s basically no full service airlines in Europe anymore and it’s so sad to see.

You can thank Ryanair, Wizz and easyJet for that

I don't get your criticism about Frankfurt really, easy signage, good operations (normally), the cleanest airport toilets I have ever seen, friendly staff, ..., . And I use that Airport maybe 10 times a year, so I don't think that it is just luck. I have rarely encounter signage that is clearer than at Frankfurt Airport. If your gate isn't posted, just wait, how hard can it be? The mask requirement is from Germany, the idea being that you can keep distance in any enclosed spaces, and if not, you still are required wear your mask. That isn't possible on board an aircraft of course, so there the masks are still mandated.

I appreciate your experience there, I'm only there about once a year. I'm just explaining the experience when transferring from an international flight. We got off the bus, looked at the monitors (nothing posted). After the first escalator, there's a choice of going through Schengen passport control (A/B) or continuing up the escalator to other terminals. Because there's nothing except letters, a large pack of people were totally confused where to go, and the overworked staff couldn't help everyone. There's nowhere to wait and it was so crowded people were crashing into each other at the top of the escalator. Then to get to my gate it's through one terminal, down an elevator, take an underpass, then take more elevators. It's a bit of a hassle in my opinion, though I can understand how hard it is with so many passengers. I also hate how many flights get remote stands.
Thanks for clarifying the mask requirement, I just found it odd that it wasn't mandated in the terminal as well.

Apparently Lufthansa has been downgraded to a 4 Star Airline

They have been, I added a comment as I said it, but I had filmed and edited this while they still had 5. Still I think 3 is pushing it...

@@Travelog Agreed, 4 is still way too generous for a carrier that sunk 5b. euros into their investors rather than keeping staff.

Pretty pathetic when your flag carrier offers worse in flight service than Southwest. But then again if American, Delta, and United want to have a race to the bottom, who's to say the Europeans can't join in the Who Can Make Passengers The Most Miserable Olympics.

Lufthansa & Frankfurt. A match made in Hell. Absolutely nothing goes right at FRA, including the revolting toilet (singular tense, that’s correct) in terminal A, or perhaps they’ve improved since I was there. If you must fly Lufthansa, Munich is a far better experience.
