I love the yurt series. I saw it when it started and it inspired me to use a carport as a yurt type shelter that I spend 2-7 days living in sporadically through the year. It works great I've had no problems with it. It's great being out in the woods, living off the land and having time to enjoy the wilderness in such a simplistic manner. I love what you do Dave, keep up the good work. EnthusiastAdventurer
great video series, thanks Dave...2012 is a make it or break it for America...God Bless Dave to you and your family. You Dave and Cody have taught us more in the last few years, than any others..
Dave if I wasn't already one of your biggest fans I am now after hearing your comments about reading your Bible! God Bless you Dave, Keep up the good work, you are an inspiration to all of us.
Not only are you seeking after wilderness experience and knowledge in your dirt time, but I love that you are seeking after Jesus, while inspiring people to do it too. Your witness to people has touched a lot of lives, and who knows how many people have been saved, just by your brief, but impacting comments about God. Stay blessed, safe, and warm! By the way, this was another great video, and I hope that you keep producing them.
Love this series of vids and it is great to hear you say that your reading your bible every night. Thank You for all the great info that you have shared with us over the years.
I am a long time subscriber and a huge fan. I credit you for helping me change my life for the better. A few years ago when I turned 50, like most men, I reevaluated my life and found myself lacking in many areas. I searched the internet for something, not sure what exactly I was looking for but I found it in your videos. Thank you.
Hi Dave, Just wanted to take a minute and let you know that I think that you (and your partners) are doing an awesome job for everyone that fallows you. I think you’re providing a very valuable service to all and I look forward to learning so much more from all of you. Keep up the outstanding work Dave! Your Bushcraft friend, Eric
bless you and mrs iris for all you do and glad to see you mention the Bible. most people seem to be scared of offending someone by mentioning relegion. may God Bless yall in all that you do thanks brother
you have inspired me to have a go building a yurt of my own , so next years project is to build the yurt and the stove and every thing else that has to go in to it like beds and boxes, thank for everything and keep up the good work and i well try and send you pic of the build...
Dave, I want you to know how much I appreciate the time and effort that you put into your work (videos). I can't wait to see you all this June at the Spring Gathering! God bless you, your Dream/business, and your wonderful family. You are an inspiration. John
Hey Dave. subscribing from New Zealand and enjoying the vids very much. Saw your high country traverse on Discovery with Cody and have a lot of respect for you guys coming down our way to make the show. Living in Christchurch we have been hit hard in the last 12 months with earthquakes and have suffered with loss of power, water, house damage etc. This experience has re-engaged me with the self-reliance mindset and I am really enjoying your practical how-to guides. Keep up the great work.
Hey Dave....i can't tell you how much i appreciate your videos....i want to be out in the wilderness all the time but only get a chance to do so about every two months....i am living vicarously (sp?) through you...i feel like i'm there with you.... thanks for all you are doing...very envious!!!
Hey Dave, I think it is totally cool how you read your Bible! The first time I heard you mention the bible was when you talked about the waterproof bible and about how you had a book coming out that was also waterproof. I ended up getting a close friend the camo version of that bible because he goes all over the world on missions and stuff. He could use a durable bible, plus he didn't want to have his newborn son upchuck on the one he had. lol
Yes I am the Newbie here, but I truely enjoy the tremendous wealth of knowledge of these videos. Love when I get the update "Wildernessoutfitters has uploaded a new video"! Keep em coming, learning alot!
Dave it is great to see a man take his way of life and make a living while doing it. I hope this year has been prosperous for you and your family. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you, Iris and the family. Keep up the good work. Your loyal follower, Johnny in Texas
7 years later and I still laugh uncontrollably when he goes "RUH RUOH RAGGIE" keep up the fantastic work Dave and congratulations on hitting 500K Subscribers!!
I sure hope you enjoy making your videos as much as we like watching them. I cant wait to get home to check to see if there is a new one. Im sure its a pain in the butt sometimes...but you have a great way of speaking that makes it very easy to learn. Thanks so much for doing what you do and being the person you are.
Great Job, Hard tack can be thinner. I have lived in Yurts in sub-zero, they had thick felt inside ( Like in boots) on the inside walls and triple on the floor, double on the ceiling.
Dave, I agree with you. I use a Fab laundry detergent bottle to take a wiz in when I'm in my sleeping bag. Just pull the clear spout out of the mouth of it. Been doing this for years when at deer camp.
great vid Dave, about the bucket I brought 2 with me one to poop in and the other to put my food in. The poop bucket put some leaves down in it first, then do your dirty work & then put leaves over that after everything is said and done, put a trash bag over everything no fuss no muss the next morning go out and clean it out and start every thing over again.
Hi Dave, I want you to check out Thermal Mass Heaters for your yurt. You should be able to cut your wood usage way down and stay nice and warm all night long. As a bonus it will also boil water. While they are not all bushcraft your stove isn't either.
*I meant gloves that kept my hands warm lol...keep on in the yurt brother your seem to be an awesome dude and i know how that weather can get in Ohio I deer hunt there once a year in November and stay for a week in a DYI cabin that my friends and myself built...God Bless
For generations men sat around fires looking at the stars pondering the three questions: Where did man come from, Why are we here and What happens at death? It takes thinking skills to consider these questions, and it is normal for "bushcrafters" to think! In the world around me I can see the patterns of design, the amazing interactions between creation and creature, and I'm part of that interaction. I want to know and believe truth because there is no virtue in believing a lie. Thanks Dave!
@ARLIA32 Personally for a small person I would recommend a .410. That was my first shotgun when I was an 100lb 10 year old and did just fine with it. It was a break action shotgun so there were not many moving parts and almost no maintenance. If you are a larger person I would recommend a good 12 gauge single shot break action for a beginner firearm. Not a lot to go wrong so you can focus on learning to shoot. I would strongly recommend going to the local range and finding a guide too.
@WildernessUntamed He's done that, and he uses Wetterlings he has determined is the best value. I have 2, amazing steel & form for axe heads. I use one specifically for carving work.
Hey Dave, great series you're doing here, real informative but also just a nice set of vids to watch, great atmosphere to them. The whole urine bucket thing sure has got people talking/asking questions. Another valuable lesson learnt for many people, myself included. Keep it up
I like your Yurt, I have thought about buying one for years, seeing yours makes me want one even more...Glad to see you being public about reading your Bible, I wish more followers of Christ in the public eye would do the same... I would like to know what your favorite scriptures are? Blessings to you Dave, stay warm.
Dave your awesome man, thanks for your videos and helpful info. I've got to get me one of your pathfinders knives, there a nice peace of craftsmanship.
I just love the Yurt. Think of all the humans who spent long winter nights huddled together sharing legends and fairy-tales to the glow of a tallow lantern in some shelter like this.
Hey Dave, I was wondering if you could show us viewers how to pick out a good axe. You talked about how you need to look at the grain of the wood. I am still wet behind the years when it comes to most of wilderness self reliance so I sure would appreciate the help. Thanks in advance Dave.
brother love the vid's and that face lol love what you you brung me back earth and im teachin my son survival that us amy trained me in and what you and cody show. bro i love the back woods thanx keep up awsome work god bless you and yours
Dave, if you have an IPhone or Android driven smart phone, you can load software on the phone to use it as a internet hot spot. Once that is done you can hook your laptop to the phone and boom internet access big-time!!! You will always know you have internet access when you know your phone can be used, wherever you are at. Thanks for doing what you do, it means alot to me and my boy.
dave i have a suggstion for your stove, you might want to consider adding stones around your stove to act as a thermal mass to trap heat and give it off throughout the night and day. may be worth a try
It awesome that you are reliving early frontier life. What peoples used Yerts, and were they used in true cold weather environments? How has it changed your outlook on how our society lives today?
Hey, Dave,.. Merry Christmas to you and your family... seeing you answering the comments means twice as much the vids ur doing (or more?!) but its really, really funny.... lol keep on the all the good work and filming..!!! lovin it!! Regards from Germany..ü
Doing a short section of answering user comments was a great idea Dave! You should make a dedicated video sometime just for user comments and questions that they want to ask you.
Dave, You should do a Q and A at least once a week via youtube video.Really liked that part of the video. Love the knowledge and keep up the good work....
Dave, thanks for all your teaching. Sharpening my knives is how I relax and unwind from daily stress. I really like the mora knives. I keep hunting for the video where you modify your but I am having a hard time finding it. Do you still carry one like you did in dual survival? Thanks for every video you post!!!
Watchin this series for the 3rd time. Great info, great work. The last video was black screen for half of it. Keep up the great work! Oh itd be nice to see Rufus in more vids :)
A great old movie starring Richard Harris was "Man in the Wilderness." The main character was mauled by a grizzly so his "friends" not only left him for dead, but also took his rifle and anything of value. The rest of the movie highlighted his survival skills after the bear attack and searching for his "friends" who left him in the wilderness with nothing but his clothes. He found a Bible and used the pages as kindling to save him from freezing during a blizzard. It truley is the "Good Book".
Dave are you using a damper on your stove/chimney? I didn't see one or hear you mention using one. The first couple years we used a wall tent as a hunting camp we did not use a damper, but once we did.....never go back. Capture more of the heat, don't burn as much wood, although not a big savings, but also the fire doesn't burn out as much either.
Dave, I'm so glad you are with me on peeing in your water bottle! A couple of guys from our bushcraft group seem horrified when they see me empty my bottle in the morning, and then fill it with drinking water! Lol.😆. I generally use a Snugpak ionosphere, and they aren't the easiest thing to get out of in the middle of the night! Keep up the fantastic videos, always a pleasure to watch 👍👍.
Dave, something you might want to try for your yurt is to build a rocket stove. It's so efficient that you can heat your whole yurt with what amounts to sticks, and the exhaust is basically just CO2 and water. Do a search on youtube for rocket stove and you will see what I mean.
Dave have you ever tried a heavy wool cloak for winter cold weather gear? It would serve well as a multi-purpose item but would it get in the way while walking?
I'm really enjoying your videos Dave. Do you see any advantages to the yurt over a wall tent? I have a wall tent that we use for rendevous. Just wondering.
Love the wool power undies can't wait till mine get here diet know they were not 100% wool they are like 69% wool but sure they will keep me warm still
Brrrr! Dave, I even felt cold when you sat there at the end of the vid. You're gonna need a beard like ZZTop to keep everything warm if you keep letting that fire go out! ;) Take care, stay warm and thanks again.
@wildernessoutfitters Buy a "Kindle" the cheap one. Keep all your reading material with you in a waterproof case. It's a lot lighter than carrying all the books.
Dave, when you have time in the Yurt some night, will you do a biography for us. I am interested to know your history and how you ended up where you are with the Pathfinder school. On a side note, tell us what some of your tattoos represent too :--))
Hi Dave, I definately agree with a former comment. I would be delighted if you would make a video about the best wilderness axes. You're awesome, keep up the great work brother.
Hey Dave, Have you ever thought about rolling your own smokes? It wouldn't be a bad idea to have a couple ounces of tobacco and a few packs of rolling papers in your haversack. It'd be a lot more economical than pre-made smokes too. Just something to think about. Keep making great videos!
What do you think of carrying a handgun? It fit well on your belt and not take up so much space, and would be pretty handy if something wanders in yur yurt (hehe) that you dont want in there

Dave, BZ brother. Can't commend you enough on the Yurt series. Well done.
@JCINGC Wetterlings or Granfors Bruks (preferably 19 inches). Another good axe is a Snow & Nealley
The song sounds like a Crosby Stills and Nash tune ... 'long time coming' .. (awesome tune btw) .. Loving these videos ..
Hi Dave,

Dave this is a great series, "The 21st Century Long Hurter" really enjoying it! Merry Christmas to you and Iris and your whole family.
Great idea answering some questions while filming. That could really catch on.
@WildernessUntamed He's done that, and he uses Wetterlings he has determined is the best value. I have 2, amazing steel & form for axe heads. I use one specifically for carving work.

Keep these videos comming, great Hard Tack video and the stove and yuks info.
Dave, a wifi signal repeater or a directional antenna to boost the gain of your wifi signal would be cheap and very effective.
I haven't used my water bottle for urine during the night, but zip-loc freezer bags have served the purpose well.
brother love the vid's and that face lol love what you you brung me back earth and im teachin my son survival that us amy trained me in and what you and cody show. bro i love the back woods thanx keep up awsome work god bless you and yours
Great series Dave
I for one love the bucket, Dave.
@Justin5king they sell them at any wal-mart you can get that option for about 30-40 bucks and an upgraded one for about 40-50
Dave, if you have an IPhone or Android driven smart phone, you can load software on the phone to use it as a internet hot spot. Ever think of expanding the school to the western part of the states?
Dave, it really means alot when you read the replies on a video.. That makes a great connection with your viers Thanks
Enjoying the vids and tutorials Dave. All the best from england.
Great video Dave , looks bloody cold there .
p.s. I really respect your bible reading routine brother. I do the same and pray that we always would.
dave i have a suggstion for your stove, you might want to consider adding stones around your stove to act as a thermal mass to trap heat and give it off throughout the night and day. may be worth a try
I Love these journal of the yurt videos!
It awesome that you are reliving early frontier life. What peoples used Yerts, and were they used in true cold weather environments? How has it changed your outlook on how our society lives today?
I like this Idea. I hope it's quicker for you too! I know you spend a lot of time with us and I appreciate it.
Like the new vids in the yurt dave wish I had the money to make it to the pathfinder school anyway keep em coming like that you share your knowledge
Hey, Dave,.. Merry Christmas to you and your family...
seeing you answering the comments means twice as much the vids ur doing (or more?!)
but its really, really funny.... lol
keep on the all the good work and filming..!!! lovin it!! Regards from Germany..ü
Doing a short section of answering user comments was a great idea Dave! You should make a dedicated video sometime just for user comments and questions that they want to ask you.
Great stuff, Dave, cool way to answer your questions, very entertaining ; ) Thanks and have a great time, Sepp
Dave, I got to say, I really like the answering questions with a video. It makes it seem a little more personal.
i really like how you show how it really is in there for you. and yes, i was 1 of the people asking about the tile floor haha
Thanks for the video. That yurt must be drafting better. I was a little worried cuz of the smoke but your video is clear as a bell.
Thanks for every video you post!!!

great video Dave, i did somthing similar last november, it was one of the best times of my life
Dave are you using a damper on your stove/chimney?

You can get an antenna for the laptop, that will help with your signal.. I forget the name of the antenna but you can buy them on EBay
Dave, I really enjoy the videos! If you had the opportunity to do a survival in Europe, which place/area gets the honors? Good luck and thanks
You are so cool Dave, I love Your videos!
Love the wool power undies can't wait till mine get here diet know they were not 100% wool they are like 69% wool but sure they will keep me warm still

@BareGrizz thanks, i was just wondering cause i got one from there but it did not have the gomits.
@wildernessoutfitters Buy a "Kindle" the cheap one. Keep all your reading material with you in a waterproof case. It's a lot lighter than carrying all the books.
Also have a Suggestion to Power the laptop Car Battery / 12v to 110V Ac Adapter / Solar Panel to keep the Charge that should set you up.
@yrofddragon looks like the video cuts out at about 7 minutes or so and then there is about 10 minutes of blank space at the end.
