A great video to kick off 2022 with. Loved the air shafts, and also the roofless opening at the 17 minute mark. Like you say, it’s sad that men lost their lives working on the tunnel, and it was a nice touch to acknowledge that at the end of the video. That poor young lad, only 16 years of age and with his whole life in front of him.
I heard that there was a plaque in the local church so I thought it only right to pay my respects to these young men who lost their lives. Very sad indeed. A beautiful old tunnel which I have heard may be opened up as a cycle way which would be lovely. Thank you as always for your support 👍
Yeah definitely! Trying to do more this year. Didi and the team are brilliant real great bunch of lads. Hopefully going to start exploring south on the GCR soon👍
Happy new year. It was a double track but one was removed quite a while before the other hence why one shows up more. It really is a great explore! Thanks for your support 👍
Thanks buddy. They are good fun tbf! I think my next explores will take me south towards brackley area on the GCR. Haven't seen that area at all and want to see what's left before HS2 destroys it completely!
@@MiddyExplores Fair one! the trackbed between Charwelton and Woodford is still fairly intact as well, plenty to see including Charwelton water troughs and Woodford water tower is still there so well worth a visit mate
I recently walked along the old route of the Midland Counties railway (may be wrong) from leire to Ullesthorpe. I found a lineside hut not sure why it was there, however half of it had collapsed, the roof only held up by some poles. Great video anyway.
This film was ok for 20 mins or so but let down by not walking to the other portal. How can you call exploring a tunnel if you don't walk as far as you can. A map would have been useful to show where the tunnel is. Sounds like the rest of your team knew more about the tunnel than you did.
Sorry about that, mistake on my half but hopefully you enjoyed some of the video. We talk about the explores as we go along and all chip in so I agree sometimes they know more and vice versa. Thank you for watching anyway 👍
Nice one Middy.
I've always wanted to go into Haddon Tunnel.
A fantastic place to explore. Thanks for watching 👍

Thanks for watching. I know the one it's hardly standing, apparently it was going to be repaired but nothing has happened in the last couple of years
9:17 A ghost? LOL
No idea but I definitely heard some steps coming towards me!!
Happy new year 2022
Don't know why I said 2021!! 😂
Do you think it was singled for many years before closure, hence one side has ballast and the other side is lower, with calcite on the floor?
Yes apparently it was singled while they removed the line in late 1968 early 1969 which would explain one side being flat. Thanks for watching 👍
