Sir Michael of Caine, 91 today in 2024, March 14th. And still working. Probably got four films coming out this year... Get Carter is a great, gritty British gangster film.
Totally agree. My dad told me to watch this on telly on BBC2 in 1986 when my mum was doing nights at the nursing home. Put me off being a criminal, that's for sure! lol
1971-2021: 50 years. Happy birthday, Jack! Best British gangster film ever. Yeah, that's right. I put this over *"The Long Good Friday"* (1981) and *"The Krays"* (1990). This theme still is great.
I guess once you have watched this movie a couple of times and have the luxury of replaying sections of the DVD you realise that in the opening credit train journey, the sniper hit man, Jack's nemesis, is sitting right opposite him on the train in one of the cuts, it is definitely him, the camera starts on Caine and then pans around to his fellow passengers in the train compartment and there is the hit man taking a puff on a cigarette , sitting opposite , I guess they were on to Jack before he ever knew it. It was Jack's boss in London , Gerald, who sends the assassin up on the train with him, Jack was causing too much trouble with the gangsters in Newcastle who were doing good business with Jack's boss Gerald....and Jack was having an affair with Gerald's girlfriend played by Britt Ekland...Jack had signed his own death warrant before he even arrived in Newcastle.
This brings back wonderful memories of my childhood in Gateshead and the northeast. I remember going to the top of the famous carpark with my younger brother. I remember the voices of the people in the exchange telegraph who provided commentary to the horse racing in my grandma’s betting shops. Even the jazz bands. All this and the best ever Brit gangster film. But Britt Ekland..........wow
Please tell me more about your life there...i am from a small reservation out side Buffalo New York USA called North Tonawanda. I am Ojibwa. I love British life...
Can’t hear without seeing Deltics roaring past each other on the East coast mainline. My dad grew up in London in the 60s and 70s and loved this film. He can’t believe how much the city has changed. Gangster films were always silly, but this film depicted them right: they are not silly, and gangsters aren’t funny.
When the theme music is as gripping as the film, you know you've got a winner! The 60's really had a lot to do with this fabulous theme xx Great days xx
Michael Caine was the star, but he received superb support from Ian Hendry, John Osborne, Tony Beckley, George Sewell, Rosemary Dunham, Alun Armstrong and Petra Markham. The rest of the cast were excellent in a great film about awful people, with the exception of Doreen and Keith, who were the only innocents in the story.
This is my introduction to Micheal Cain as an actor and he always remained with me as a noir action movie actor. He was so great in it. A real Chad actor. I think that if the British had an ideal Brit that they wanted to represent them, it would have been Micheal Cain.
Brilliant track, watched this film for the first time last night and can’t stop listening to the theme today in work haha, feel like getting the musket out on someone 😂. Seriously enjoyed the film brilliant! Caine is a dude.
The Human League did a minimal synth cover of this. Both versions are parts of my childhood. "You're a big man, but you're in bad shape. With me, it's a full time job, now behave yourself!"

The destructors too, playing alongside Dennis Quaid...
An actor who can say more with one look than most actors can say with 3 pages of dialogue.... true class Sir Michael love you always sir ❤
'So Mr. Nolan...
Why did you cast Tom Hardy
As Farriar in Dunkirk?
'Because he can act with his eyes'
His Geordie accent in this movie is flawless. That's real talent.
My kind of Jazz, that bassline is KILLER!
Brilliant, simply brilliant
Jack Carter should visit the 9 blokes who thumbed down this wonderful piece of music!
Now it's 9 blokes and 8 women - watch out them!
And remind them that they're in bad shape
The dirty bastids
Have you ever heard Stereolab's version? Not a patch on the original, but still great
To right 👍
Thanks to Roy Budd for writing one of my all-time favorite movie themes.
@James B. Incredible observation. I saw the movie 10 years ago and never noticed.
Roy Budd and other musicians, were paid peanuts for the background music
😧😓💔🖖
What a banging baseline, totally awesome, after all these years
BASS line.
Another brilliant masterpiece of a movie and score from yesterday. Makes one weep, when one compares it, to the crap produced today
So true!
Totally agree. My dad told me to watch this on telly on BBC2 in 1986 when my mum was doing nights at the nursing home. Put me off being a criminal, that's for sure! lol

Long Good Friday for me Get Carter second.

Underrated British classic
Kenny McCormick Hey Kenny
Only underrated if you don't know about it.😉
Dang, I didn't know Misato would be the type to watch classic crime thrillers 0-0
Underrated what??? Stick to naruto you ignoramus

Such a great film and I’ll look out for that clip- cheers!
Chris Mac, thanks for that observation. I'll watch out for that the next time I watch it...🤜💥🤛
I never knew that! Many thanks. Another excuse to rewatch this great film.....
Definitely him, he’s wearing the same signet ring as when he’s commissioned to kill Jack
@@katyburns9758 yep exactly, well spotted, we see that ring on his hand when he is on the phone receiving his final instructions!!
I grew up on Tyneside when this film was made - Superb film - excellent jazz score -
This is blues
@@N330AA it's definitely not blues...the composer was a jazz pianist for one thing
It's a mix of genres but it's definitely not straight blues.

The Finsbury Park Racehorses.
(A4's in my childhood).
This is best Hammond Organ solo of all time. Jimmy Smith would have been proud to have this in his hands.
Have you heard of Fender Rhodes?

Starting in my college years, I've called that my "Music Music Theory." I've never seen a crappy movie with great music, nor vice-versa.
Look out for the old geezer with 6 fingers in the Newcastle pub
Watching it again on BBC4…timeless.
The best gangster film ever.roy bud is a genius
The end of the cultural 60's, wistful, but it hides the tears through grim defiance.
Can’t believe this film’s nearly 50 years old
Best film theme of all time. Arguably best British - at least - film of all time
One of the great soundtracks of the 1970s. Iconic work by Roy Budd.
Fantastic movie, Fantastic soundtrack.
Has this never been released as a single in the last 50 odd years?
Would have been a hit. Can also imagine it in the nightclubs.
Yes, it has been. UK on Pye Records in 1971 if I’m not wrong. Reissued in 2005 by Castle
Imagine being in a Soho club in 71 listening to this ❤ RIP Mike Hodges
This particular piece of music was the Stranglers drummer the late Jet Black's favourite.
RiP Jet Black
The real Budd touch. What a shame he passed so prematurely
I can't believe this is being used for a bloody car advert! It takes the enjoyment out oaf the track a little
have u seen the car ad its good
It was used as the theme tune to a documentary by Danny Dyer. I think it's probably lost some enjoyment.
Yeah but who remembers the advert now its off the tv.... the music however lives on......
My favourite film . Cheers sir michael
Great Tune, all time classic film, the composer was a Genius!

Great tune. Also clearly an inspiration for Todd Terje's superb 'Oh Joy'
Great theme, great movie Mr Caine at his best. Sadly they don't make movies like this anymore.
Good Job They Managed to Fit This Into Good old Times then

They don't get any better than get carter 1971 Caine the master actor the modern Laurence Olivier
What was kind of cool about this is that Roy Budd was inspired by Lalo Schifrin when he did this soundtrack.
You're a big man Brumby but you're in bad shape. With me it's a full time job.....

Love the film and this track, was shocked when I bought the book to find it was in the book based in Doncaster!
Doncaster wouldn't have looked as good in a film
So THIS is the song...I've heard it in so many Top Gear sequences
How can anyone downvote this?
loved lvoed the theme. THey have used Tabla - insane..
