Majority of textbooks, normal tests, and exams are created by tenure professors, not high school teachers. Which explains why questions are sometimes very "off" and "out there", requiring thinking skills not taught in class.

For the question at 8:23 (the one with the square root in the numerator), you could alternatively use difference of squares in the denominator with x-9, making it (rootx -3) (rootx + 3). The (rootx -3) can be "cancelled out" from the numerator and denominator, and you can save a lot of time in getting to 1 / (rootx+3) = 1/6.
