Not really. People who think X sounded so different here, probably only used to a certain DMX sound or aren't too familiar with his work. The majority of his albums, his voice isn't gruff. Tone is exactly the same as this.
It’s beautiful to hear how he went from this to finding his own signature style and voice. He never left storytelling alone either, one of the most underrated in that department.
@@thebigmonstaandy6644 No. The gruffness came after aging, smoking, and changing his voice in records. If you listen to Dark and Flesh of my Flesh and even Then There Was X there's still a bunch of songs where his voice isn't that gruff. It got way more pronounced as he got older.
@@monteellis4436 there are people ,who say, that he stated in a Docu, that his voice changed after car crash.Like 50 Cent got his voice changed after a assault
@@torianmcneill3794 That had nothing to do with it. That happened in 1997. X voice got deeper by like 1993, but a lot of songs on his albums, his voice is just like this, just older.
I'm shook. Can't believe this is him.. LL started around 16 and you can at least tell it's still him throughout all his albums. I'd have never guessed this is X
Wow. I'm listening to the verses and every once in a while I can hear a bit of DMX in there, but for the most part you couldnt have paid me to convince me that that's X. Sounds more like slick rick than anything. This is crazy. But the hook definitely sounds like X. #RIPDMX TOP 3 to ever do it
The news about him OD'ing truly made me feel some type of way and I was pulling for him to make it out and come back stronger and harder than ever before. Then, I was woken up outta my sleep today to find out that he crossed over and THAT news hit me like 2 tons of bricks because it's like I lost another family member..... a moment of deja vu, but that's a whole nother story.... Anyways, I wish his music would've gotten played a lot more and a lot sooner everywhere because he was on that level in '91 as much as he was in '98 and '99. I can only hope that he knew and saw how much he was truly loved by his family, friends and his fans, especially within his last days because he truly was and deserved every bit of that love. Rest easy, D. You were truly one of my all-time favorite storytellers in this life and you will continue to be the legend that is DMX The Great. See you in the next life.

Not jumping to conclusion but the only thing wack about this song was a reference to that dumbass movie "Rocky." He really looked up to Rakim...
DMX flowed just like LL Cool J and Rakim mixed together on this
Rip to the realest rapper alive..literally the realest

DMX should have been signed early on. At the age of 16 he had skills. The brother was so gifted. #RIPDMX

1987, he was just 16 at the time
Makes since fr
Definitely was still fresh asf 😂💯🐐
Eve and Cassidy both got big young too. Ruff Ryders are pretty underrated if you look at their camp and their body of work. Even The Lox
This was 1991. He was actually 20 years old
Only on the chorus I can hear X a lil bit, otherwise I can’t tell it’s even him 🤷🏾♂️
Christopher Parlin right
