550 cord has so many great uses. I purchased 1000’ of o.d. green about 12 years ago and I’ve used it to secure everything. Even my wife has used it for several of her home projects. Thanks for sharing the video post.
I've got to say that this video is one of the better tutorials online. Not just in the knife mounting category but out of all of the tutorials. Conceptually interesting, described practically and clearly aimed at the novice segment but with enough information and ideas to keep the moderate and advanced corners interested.
Great video - thanks! Quick tip for easy flat ends on paracord: - before burning, retract the sheath a bit, cut about 5mm of the inner core, then bring the sheath back up so it extends beyond the core. now burn for super flat end for threading :)
Hi, Joe here… GREAT VIDEO… FIRST, I’m non military , mounting on a crye plate carrier… After mounting my sheath 15 times, I did things a little different from what you showed… I started from the knife hilt side and ended at the point. This put the tie off knot furthest away from the knife action. I also ran the cord under the sheath so virtually NO cord is exposed.
Thanx for the instruction! Just got my first plate carrier and I was wondering how the hell I was gonna mount a non molle kydex sheath to my carrier...You answered and showed how to do...and to do it right! Thanx again. Will be watching for more information.
Ray Wilson - That’s exactly what I utilize. I understand some folks will opt for paranoid so that if they happen to need it, they have it. I simply keep an adequate amount in a hank within the pack. I zip tie my knife on my vest or belt.
I keep a few zip ties everywhere as they easily secure just about anything! Never thought about using them to attach onto MOLLE though! That’s a great idea, one that I got to try! 👍
I just did my KA-BAR a couple of nights ago. Here's my lessons learned: 1 You're tying a fucking knife to your backpack. Get the cheapest cordage you can find. It'll hold. 2 It's not hard to figure out. Just start lacing. I opted to tie one end of my $0.99/25ft line into a knot on the end of my sheath, and then I just didn't miss any holes, and knotted the other end. 3 Don't try to keep everything tight. Lace it up, and then pull it tight before tying the final knot 4 Right handed shooters should tie their knife to the left shoulder strap on their pack. I was finished before I discovered my fuckup
Can't tell if you look more like Sean Connery or the Dos Equis most interesting man in the world. Either way nice, informative video. Straight to the point.
What are your thoughts on putting the knife on the shoulder straps of the pack? I have a kydex sheath coming for my 7 inch Ka-Bar. I was thinking of putting it on my left shoulder strap so I can access it while wearing the pack but it would not interfere with shouldering a rifle. My only thought is that I tend to strap my pack pretty tight. Also, I can see it getting in the way if I had to shoot from my left side. Seems everything is a compromise.
Good question and thanks for commenting. I do mount tourniquets and radios to pack shoulder straps. However, these are packs that I don't normally use in tandem with a rifle. They are more backpacking/hiking packs. I'll answer using a different piece of gear. i generally warn people against running a knife on their chest rig or body armor straps because of rifle interference.
@@RTTGunsGear Fair point. I was in thre thought of SHTF and I have to hump it a ways. My just need a couple more knives in various places to cover all possibilities. Thanks for the reply.
It should. Anything that has tie down points (grommets, holes, slots, etc..) and is ridgid enough to not bind or cause your knife to cut material on the way in or out should work just fine.
@@RTTGunsGear Do you have any recommendations for mag pouches currently? I'm trying to run 3 ar and 3 sidearm on the front of mine. Can't decide what to go with however. Thanks.
ive always heard its best to be flat as possible on the front, so you can lay prone and get as close to the ground as possible if youre being shot at. on my carrier i have the spiritus systems elastic velcro insert that fits inside the big front pocket. it holds three mags in place and they stay well put for not having any sort of flap or active retention device. if trying to be flat on the front isnt a concern, then spiritus has some other options but they're pricey. condor isnt bad but its chi-com made

5.11 pack is like a gateway drug. One minute a side pouch you attached falls off and you’re down a water bottle. Next minute you’re thinking, yeah, course I need a knife
Good video, I may adjust where I have placed my knife after watching this. What brand is that knife you chose to attach to the backpack for this video?
Fairbairn Sykes are a bit tricky to tie into a plate carrier, but I think I found a decent method and spot, but I can’t post a picture. Anyone attach a Fairbairn on a carrier?
I used your method to attach a KA-BAR in a hard sheath to my 5.11 Rush 24 and it worked great. Thanks for this video it was exactly what I needed to know. Cheers
Worked well upside down on the 5.11 Rush 24 for my Shrade Leroy upside down. The purpose of the Shrade, to me, is a small machete/small camping axe, of lighter weight. It’s not the Eli thing. Right side up it’s not accessible, I tried the first not wanting to defy gravity. It’s a bit large on the combat molle belt, plus it would be crowded. The positive snap on the scabbard holds the Shrade tight backed up by the Velcro lash.
Get a hole punch or even just an awl. Punch some holes (maybe 3/16'' diameter) along the edges of the sheathe, just DONT punch through any stitching on the sheathe. Use leather cord (found at most stores) or paracord to loop through the holes and into the MoLLE.
On your plate carrier it looks like you have a molle pouch on top of the sheath of the knife, can you show how you connected the molle pouch with the knife below it?
im assuming it has enough webbing on the outside of the knife to attach the pouch normally. he might even use the same webbing he ran the paracord through.
Thanks for the video. Wish you could have showed how you did it on your plate carrier because that's where I'm putting mine, but dont know how to do it in behind my mag pouches
you should be able to remove the mag pouches. attach the sheath. then replace mag pouches. building out this type of gear (MOLLE) is sometimes a tedious process. as mentioned in this video, he showed having to pull the cordage out and retry a different method. sometimes it means getting everything set, then going out and training with the gear to find out if it ultimately will work. even if its just worn while out on a short hike or ruck. you will quickly find if you could realistically wear your setup for an extended period of time while having it also be functional. can you shoulder a rifle as he mentioned? can you kneel, crawl, go prone? can you climb? can i go to the bathroom and carry another human while wearing it. doesn't matter if it looks cool on your gear if it doesn't function for you in use.

Theres a better way to tie this off for sure… this is a way to weave it granted, but I like to lace mine in a way that tucks the knot I tie under the sheath, this is more secure as it’s less likely to get caught on things, and it just in general looks better hidden away

Assuming it doesn't interfere with drawing the kukri from the sheath, I'm sure it would. My Kukri has a nylon sheath, so I hang it from a strap on the side of my pack and then just lash down the end or bottom to a loop on the lower part of my pack.
