  • @MFEGoingDeep some good friends were gracious enough to allow myself and family to use their camp for a couple days on Schoodic Lake this past week. I spent some time really exploring the underwater area as it was a new spot on the lake for me and had lots of neat structure with the huge boulders and rocks everywhere. A few Smallmouth Bass and a large Sucker were what we spotted for fish. Very thankful for the opportunity and we had an awesome time!

I think i saw the Jackhammer i lost at the tournament I fished there!🤣 Caught a 3-pounder on my first cast and never had another bite all day! Fortunately my partner caught a 4-plus for lunker and got us a limit. We went to the far end of the lake and caught everything in the same spot. This was on the 20th of May i think and saw 47° water! 🥶

I feel like the bass are nesting still, not far from this area when I first started doing this there was a whole group of nice bass that I took some video of that seemed a lot more active and not skittish at all. This would’ve been end of July early August. Water temp was in the low 50’s as of this video.

Thank as always. I checked the IFW survey map for Schoodic. Pretty out of date. Water quality "superior" and oxygenation good to 150'. I watched the depth of the camera closely while watching for fish. I'm not sure why the small number of fish spotted was more about the specific location or the lack of food. No minnows, no weeds. Curious what you think.

I think the majority of gamefish here roam the open water, chasing schools of smelts mostly. Probably why trolling and covering lots of area can be effective. I know they definitely will concentrate in smaller shallower areas during spawning time but am hoping to uncover some type of deep water areas this summer that hold fish consistently and what that looks like as far as structure, springholes, etc. The water is still fairly cold so they could be really anywhere in the water column still. I think later on in the summer this spot would hold more bass, they may still be nesting and therefore in different areas I’m not really sure. Salmon and Lakers I would think cruise by here, just a matter of timing to see them as they come by searching for food. I did notice the second day I was here a lot of fish rising for insects so that is certainly an available food source.
