  • WHERE TO BUY THE MOST FABULOUS BOOK IN THE WORLD:
    1) www.mydesignsh...
    2) www.amazon.com...
    ASNAKFBA RACING TO GET THIS ONE DONE DEAR GOD THIS TOOK LONGER THAN EXPECTED. I'm so worried that there's a thousand mistakes in this video cause I didn't have time for a final review but whatever!! Just gotta roll with it!! D;
I really hope this was informative and helpful. I didn't know any field of illustration outside of children's books so I wanted to create this resource for everyone who's having doubts if they can make it!
Generally speaking, the more niche a market it, the more likely you can find work. Big fields that everyone wants to get into, like concept art, have WAY more competition. But don't get it twisted--every field has its own unique struggles. I didn't talk (much) about pay in this video because it can be very subjective and it's frequently changing. Do NOT go into a field just for the money!!! If you genuinely are interested in the subject and you have a knack for it then by all means, but don't kill yourself doing medical illustration if it'll make you quit being an artist.
Catch me on all my social media @BianaBova
See you in the next vid! Hopefully on Sunday! Cheers!~

I'm really excited to start applying to art colleges and this video really just confirmed that there is all sorts of work out there for artists. Now I just have to figure out what to do first! 😁 So, thank you, seriously your videos have been a big help going through the college application process and getting ready for art school, what to expect, and what I can do after!

Ok, this made me curious. Are these different Types of Illustrations all grouped together? Is there just one Illustration Degree which incorporates all these Fields? I'm asking this because in my Country there are different Illustration Degrees depending on the kind of Field you want to enter. Maybe it's just because I'm not used to other systems, but I can't wrap my head around it.
For Example: Scientific Visualization includes the following Fields (Listet as shown in 50 Markets of Illustration, A Showcase of Contemporary Illustrators, By John Roman).
    Archaeological Illustration
    Botanical Illustration
    Biological Illustration
    Marine Biology Artist
    Ornithological Illustration
    Scientific Illustration
    Technical Illustration
    Animal Illustration
    Info-Graphic Illustration
    Courtroom Presentation Art
    Documentary Illustration
    Postage Stamp Illustration
    Map Illustration
    Architectural Illustration
A Student in this Degree will be provided Collaborations with Museums, Botanical Gardens, STEM Fields, Architects and other potential Clients. Students in other Degrees of Illustration will have different Collaboration-Partners. The Opportunities are specifically for them. Different Fields will also collaborate with each other.
Please excuse me for such a naive and long-winded Question, but the American Education System confuses me.
I wish you a happy Day,
    Ale

Wolkenfeder No worries, that's a perfectly good question! As far as I know in the United States, you can't get a specific niche illustration degree like "scientific illustration" or "narrative illustration." Everyone graduates with the same degree but with specialized portfolios that suits the market they're interested in. Some people go the extra mile and get a double major or minor in a related field. For example, I knew quite a few people at UCONN who double majored in biology and illustration because they wanted to do different kinds of scientific illustration. Doing a double major like them makes sense if you're picking a field that is very knowledge heavy, but there's no need to do so if you're going for, say, card illustration.
But bottom line, unless your country/school offers it, do NOT feel like you need some special degree to work in one field of illustration. And damn, even if you did get a super specific major, there's nothing wrong with changing your mind and your portfolio later. There was some artist I read about who started off doing architectural illustration and later switched to portraiture. Nothing is set in stone, so you're free to dabble in whatever fields suit your fancy!
Let me know if you have any other questions, I'm more than happy to help :D

I want to be a science illustrator. I have a BA Hons in fine art and plenty of technical training at academic art ateliers. I'm looking for an MA. Do you know if an MA in illustration is enough to work as a science illustrator, or does the master degree need to be specifically about scientific illustration..and if so, does anyone know where there's such a master degree in Europe? Not medical illustration.
