Game: Age of Empires II Definitive Edition - Игры
I have to say that it's pretty damn incredible that the other three games have playerbases THAT stable for that long.
aoe player are the most loyal gamer fans i have ever seen in my life
AoE2 fan and player for 24 years here! I've rebought basically the same game like ten times and I love it! 1111
Grew up on aoe2 still playing it now in college. My favorite game of all times. I’ll always come back and play once in a while
Age of Empires is the Toyota Corolla of video games.
Good games are good, it's simple.
They did absolutely amazing job with Retold, and I really wish you could do some civ breakdowns for AoM, it would for sure make a lot more people here interested in the game
I would love too
Check out IamMagic, Moose AOM or Boit for that kind of stuff on AOM =)
Afaik Spirit wants to mainly focusing on AOE 2, as per his more recent interview with him and the Viper.
@@AMDGBananaBen While they are all decent at what they are doing, I personally prefer Boit, not that big on the other two.
Still the level of quality doesn't compare to SotL. There's no bias or opinions in SotL videos, just pure mathematically and empirically proven facts
Not to mention the popularity is a factor too. Boit, Moose and IamMagic don't really have the reach to showcase the game to people outside of AoM community.
I personally fully believe that this channel is the only reason why AoE2 DE exists. Because SotL has proven there is interest in AoE2 to a wider audience.
And of course I can't nor do I intend to force SotL to make videos against his will ^^ but as an AoM fan - this channel posts content that isn't relevant to me, but I still watch it because of how well SotL breaks it down and proves his results. So AoM content - for AoM players would be relevant to their game of choice, while AoE2 players would likely still watch it with interest, just like AoM players (and people don't own Age of games) still watch all of the civ breakdown videos, just because they enjoy seeing SotL work his magic
I don't agree with several of your points but fair enough, SOTL does what he does well for AOE 2 and that's great.
Age of Mythology Retold has quickly become my favorite RTS!
Thanks for the shoutout for my dynamic bloodsport map. I am glad you had fun playing it!
(Though I see that the sync error in your screenshot was from while you were playing it eeeeeeek!)
I haven't played, but it's a cool concept! I love it when people come up with new spins on gameplay like that.
@@nottudI remember your maps from like 20 years ago when I first played aom. You're a legend, thanks for making my childhood
You have the best maps nottud
hello donut, have you heard any news if they will remove 64 terrain texture limit for editor sometime soon?
Ive seen enough triple A games drop 90% of their playerbase in the first month to know that the player drop of ~45% is actually pretty good, especially for a mostly single player game.
AAA games attract way more "random" players who just buy the game because they saw it in the ads and twitch streamers were showing the game before release etc. I doubt AoM Retold has these kinds of players in meaningful numbers. So these two are hardly comparable.
People play AoM singleplayer? I only play multiplayer and my friends too lol
@@welersoncarvalho2471 Yea, the AoM campaign is quite popular. I mostly play PvP and I'm still slowly working my way through it.
@welersoncarvalho2471 it's likely that 80% of the playerbase has only ever played the campaign.
@@FearTheCaboose1337 Only 60% did the first mission and 13% completed the fall of the trident campaign on steam. More than i though it would be tbh
The talk about population numbers reminds me of somethign Sandy Peterson said an in an interview a while back: The RTS player is incredibly engaged and will often purchase every game in the genre, usually playing the campaigns, but will return to their "Main" game after they've had their fill. It does paint an interesting picture where good games in the genre end up growing it as a new game is more likely to pull in a fresh group of players finding their "main" game rather than cannibalizing old ones that are still supported.
I’m a AOE2 lifer and AOM was new to me but a good breath of fresh air!
The reverse of this was ironically why the original Chinese DLC bombed so hard. They basically shoved an AoE2 civ into AoM with some myth units tacked on. AoM's strength was allways how unique and distinct each civilisation was, whilst Chinese felt very generic. Well that and the campaign sucked hard, and an amazing campaign is the other AoM defining feature.
Being able to choose a minor god with a lot of bonuses on them is really cool too.
@@darthkarl99 Tecnically was an AoE 3 civ in AoM (but since had monks with conversion it feels like an AoE 2 civ)...
The "Dragon" in the water is actually a snake on a turtle. The Black Turtle-Snake.
The mythical Snurtle.
As kids we grew up playing Gameboy, and one of the games we had was Final Fantasy Legend. It's been some time since I played it, but IIRC the game is split into four worlds each ruled by one of the four mythical creatures from Chinese folklore. The boss of the first world is Genbu, the black turtle. I believe it's represented as a tortoise with a snake as a tail.
The four mythical beasts would return in Legend 2 (and I think 3), not as monsters you could fight, but if you took a monster as a party member you could have them eventually evolve into one of them at the end game. You could choose your party in these games (except 3), and monster party member could change form by eating monster meat.
Those games actually had some pretty interesting mechanics. IIRC they're technically part of the SaGa series, but were marketed under the Final Fantasy name in the West, similar to how the first Mana game was marketed as Final Fantasy Adventure.
@@Greywander87 Japanises games often do take inspiration from mythology a lot. Westerns often pick up on the Christian parts. But do tend to miss out on Chines, Japanese and other mythology.
Since the Black Tortoise is in the game, there have been speculation that the other Four Guardians would be in. Both the white tiger and the Vermilion Bird seem to be in the game. So now we are just lacking the Azure Dragon. Which was in the old DLC.
I am guessing we will see the Azure Dragon since it is pretty iconic.
So the four sacred beast Will be four myth units for Chinese. Vermillio bird (Phoenix), black tortoise, white tiger and the blue/ICE dragon
@@Cythiland also completes the four guardian beasts 😁
With how little marketing there has been done by Microsoft, game did really well. When SpiffingBrit dropped his AoM video, a huge portion of comments was: "I had no idea this game is released already".
Excited to see if they can stick the landing with the Chinese pantheon this time
It's already looking insane.
It allready looks like they learned from the mistakes of the original. Its real problem was they tried to put an AoE2 civ with some myth units tacked on into AoM, and the problems that created showed hard.
Same, I hope it's good and the trailer looks promising.
Same
I...had no idea that the original AoE hda a vast Vietnamese fanbase, but that's nice to know. Glad they really liked it!
Oh it's vast alright. It literally rivals AoE 2's GLOBAL playerbase during peak tourney seasons. The problem is that they're so used to the original game that they simply no desire to migrate to any other version, so they'll never play with people outside Vietnam.
It has become my favorite RTS, I am really happy with the remake. I am not even sure if I will go back to AoE2!
It pains me to say that I feel the same way. I always liked AoE 2 and I always like AoM but didn't necessarily access to them both at the same time. So now I can play them side by side I'm definitely having more fun with AoM. It just feels like you have access to (and are encouraged to use) a huge variety of units the moment you hit classical age. Whereas AoE2 meta is pretty much scouts every game with the odd counter unit thrown in until later, if you make it that far.
So cool, to be watching your video and noticing you using my menu background mod! (Around 5-6 minutes in). I agree, I think AOM is in a good spot! And love how the devs are handling things so far! It is also great to see that a lot of players are happy to play multiple age games! I know I enjoy 2,3,4, and AOM!
I love your custom menu mod. The Greek one especially is way more entertaining than the default one. I have no idea how you get the camera work to be so smooth and captured the clips without the UI, but it's great work!
@@SpiritOfTheLaw Thanks man! The Greek was my favorite to make. The editor in Aom is really powerful. Anyone should give it a try if you’re interested in that kind of thing. It’s cool to see the custom scenarios people are making. I had no prior experience with the editor, but you can figure things out pretty quick just by messing around in it. The camera tracks can be tricky. It can only handle a sharp turn radius and speed to a degree. And then they break in interesting ways! But you pretty much just create your key frames and then specify the travel time between each and the whole track and then make a trigger that plays the track at the start of the scenario.
Hopefully should be some good new maps coming soon. I've seen some really amazing screenshots in the discord from maps that are in progress. China DLC will also add a lot of new assets, so some might be waiting for that.
Game is amazing. The dev are balancing it on a pretty good rate too. Overall super happy.
This is the game that made me quit MOBAs, and also made me start playing the campaigns for some of the other Age games that I haven't tried previously (Age 1 & Age 3 specifically). So I fully agree with the point about these games all being able to coexist without cannibalizing each other, and if anything, the success of each game actually has the potential to help the other games as well.
It was fun playing with you in bloodsport! Awesome video! (Frigidfrost) - Desync is the #1 issue in this game I would say and the issues NEED to be fixed, or it is just going to be more quit/frustration moments for new players. Old players are used to it, but it will definitely drive out new fans before they can even really get into beauty that is multiplayer.
Thanks for playing my Bloodsport! Yea I have had a lot of desync issues while developing that map resulting in it getting reworked several times to try and workaround it. In particular very high probability of desync with cinematic mode resulted in me purging it from that map and some others.
Aom was always my favorite, coolest units ever and no tower rushing or castle dropping. Perfection!!
Thank you for the AoM video, Spirit! Hope to see more.
Prostagma! Also, don't forget how much nostalgic value the voice lines and the soundtrack from that game add. I think I have heard the Greek to Me piece more times as background music for many different videos, not even connected to Age of Mythology, than any other ost.
I really feel like I'm in the minority for loving the Return of Rome DLC, and I think that's such a shame.
Some more content for the AOE 1 time period could have been made, but I guess the appeal for many people just wasnt there.
Nah I also really liked it. I was just disappointed by the lack of a ranked queue. I don't want to go through the hassle of figuring out who's at the same level as me in a custom lobby, I just wanna hit a button and play.
I also wish we got more of the campaigns, instead of originally getting none, and then only getting 2 after a lot of protest.
i cant find lobbies for it, and when there is one is an afk dude who has had the lobby for hours and it will never launch.
ive played more multiplayer games on aoe1de than ror dlc and even then, those were on launch and 1-2 years after (damn time flies)
Yeah, I'm actually excited for the Immortal Pillars DLC. I've never played the original, but I watched someone doing a comprehensive review of the series' campaigns and I think the quality is summed up in the title card for the campaign intro cinematic: *A black screen with red default text.*
This Chinese Expansion has a proper title card and the myth units don't look like copy-pastes anymore! Sure, the Fire Bird has parallels with the phoenix, but the Minotaur has parallels with the cyclops and the norse giants are all tall humanoids with very different abilities, so the potential is there!
Haven't yet picked it up, but it's amazing to see new generations of players falling in love with one of my all-time favourite games. Also great to see good post-launch support and balance patches. These were both more limited back in the day.
Yees I'd love more AoM content from you!
hope u do some vids on AoM
Thank you for the quick update!
I love to see the win rate breakdowns.
I remember when Blizzard used to post those for SC2, because it showed really neat trends.
1) The highest win rate race was different (at the same rating) in different regions.
2) The highest win rate race was different at different ratings.
I'd love to see more Age stats broken up more granularly like that.
just like some factions on aoe2 lose/win depending on game phase, i see that shit also in sc2, with toss being super strong in the midgame (zealot runbys at every fringe expantion, strong timmings and a warp prism on the main base, goodluck defending 4 places at same time. Also goodluck with lings runbys when all bases have batteries and cannons and HTs D:) , and terran in the super late late game. nothing beats ghost+thor composition (as zerg)
I really haven't played much of AOE2, but I LOVE AOM. I still enjoy watching your videos. As for game breakdowns, you are amongst my favorite amongst all the games I watch. Keep up the great work!
I would adore it if SOTL did an overview on certain myth units a la aoe2 unique units!
Thanks as always for the AOM highlight Spirit!
I'm very keen to see how the game shapes up by the time the Chinese Pantheon is added
As someone who focuses more on singleplayer content, my main issue with it has been the complete and utter disparity in the difficulty. Some missions are WILDLY more difficult than others, to the point of being outright bullshit. To me at least, felt like the testing of missions stopped at the Greek campaign, because from there onward things are either way too easy or idiotically difficult, with no middle area.
Both patches they've put out so far had sections on campaign rebalancing. Give it time.
This sadly is more of an issue stemming from the original AFAIK. they had a really nasty habit of each time you got anew civ they'd start you with a couple of easy missions and by the end they'd be throwing massivlly tough missions at you. Which ones have been your personal problems i'm curious to know?
@@darthkarl99 I find Light Sleeper to be very difficult in the Egyptian campaign. The time limit is very strict and its hard to crack the AI defenses before running out. I gave up on Hard difficulty and did it in Moderate :(
@@RazsacI recently beat that mission on titan difficulty. To breach the base I employed some hit and run tactics on the north entrance using the campaign heroes to bait and soak damage supported by an army of priests and chariot archers to whittle down and kill their entire defensive force. Once the bulk of their forces are neutralized, I safely deployed scarabs and siege towers to make quick work of the base with little resistance and third village still alive. In the original game on titan I could make a deathstack and destroy it easily but in retold defenders are much more capable, I learned as soon as mission 5 that a mindless frontal assault on an enemy base tends to quickly fall apart now.
@@galos3278 that sounds like it took some good effort, yeah I agree that campaign bases seem tougher to breach overall
I think that "Chinese Phoenix" might in fact be Vermilion Bird returning from TotD, since you can see those fire whirlwinds in same scene, and that was their attack form back there
Hey guys! Spirit of the law here!
The only criticism I have for Retold is that defense play feels like a death sentence in both PvE and PvP. Towers, Walls and Fortress buildings feel way too weak.
In the Egypt arc of the campaign there was so many times the enemy sends about 3-4 Elephants and they were able to bring a strongholds and Towers Hp to half every time
The biggest offender to this issue is the burning pitch tech giving x4 bonus damage to buildings that's way too much in my opinion
I've seen arrow ships melt building HP in seconds that it makes the siege ships feel redundant
Even when you get techs that improve buildings HP it doesn't feel any different
Agreed! Buildings are very weak
Yeah the weakening of Town Center hp, lower attack values for towers and fortress buildings is an indirect nerf to Ancient Egyptian's playstyle :(
But it did took note from voobly's scene about the overall turtle nightmare that is Ra or Isis when they get to late Mythic age.
The issue with this is that it seems a sizable section of the AoM community seems to WANT it that way. It's a pretty hot topic rn.
@@zonetropperit feels like Greek, Egypt and Atlantean just have Norse DNA in them but x10 worse forcing everyone to go on the offense of else they're screwed which makes campaigns mission where you are told to play defensively way more challenging
I saw people saying mission 30 is way more harder and guarantee it's because people are losing buildings faster than losing their military
@@ArawnOfAnnwnyeah I saw Reddit post talking about this and it was a bloodbath
Ive never seen the chinese teaser before, but i *absolutely* saw Lu Bu as a heroic unit there
That helmet was not uncommon, I'm kinda doubtful they would pick the romance of the three kingdom for the chinese pantreon as a base since that might be full of BS and exaggeration but is overall grounded (comparatively) and lacking myth or mysticism. They are better off with journey to the west, and semi-realistic persons as heroes from around that.
@raizan5946 there's other characters that are absolutely 3 kingdom characters later on too
@@Corundrom I see, well nothing against it.... I love china 3 kingdoms... I wish we went with the typical japanese sengoku for the japanese pantheon but that will be a pipe dream given the 1500 years apart and that the early heian (was that the name now?) has a bunch more mysticism. I'm so happy they retook AoM.
Someone also made a fully fledged Skyrim map in AoM Retold!!
Retold is amazing, there's a couple of bugs though, town centers being bugged is one of them.
I'm looking forward to the Chinese expansion, and I hope they will consider a small Frey campaign. Really hoping for an early slavic mythology expansion too, or maybe a baltic one.
I hope people show some attention & support to the guy who is working on making the campaign in coop, having a thriving modding scene is bound to keep the game alive alongside the pvp
Hi Spirit! Guy of the Law here!
I think it's pretty safe to say that, as long as the devs end up fixing the desync bugs and hone the game up a bit (especially the AI), AoM Retold will keep the strong fanbase the original always had, while growing it to maybe even match AoE 2, depending on the expansions.
I'm excited for the future of this game!
Also... PROSTAGMA
I got the game yesterday and played once so far. I ended up losing because ONE of my 3 AI Opponents (Gaia) was able to continually rebuild their Titan and be in Age V while I could only build my Titan once and was stuck in Age IV (I played as Freyr).
AOE2 player consistency after 20 years is insane
Players of focus, commitment and sheer will
My childhood game is still alive and kicking
Hopefully they keep up the DLC / extra content for this one, it's got such great potential
It's wicked good kid. It's a good one.
Personally, as a fan, I really love this remake. It’s pretty and everything I wanted for a new version of this classic. IMO it’s also the cleanest launch in the franchise after Age 2. In contrast Age 3 and 4 had messier launches that negatively affected them. While here, the cleaner launch has helped with emphasizing the stronger aspects of the game. There are issues like the multiplayer ones, also some rebalancing still needed with strats, but overall it’s really good and I look forward to what’s next
Solid call on a large part of the drop being campaign players. I for one played through the campaign twice and do some co-op vs AI with friends but have no interest in ranking in AoM, and I feel a significant chunk of the player base is in the same boat
Thanks for the reminder to go full laser crocs as soon as I get on the PC 😅
It’s my favourite now!
Hey Law, Guys of the spirit here!
A big patch shows a lot of support but also shows a lot was necessary fixing!
I'm amazed at how well balanced the game is, considering how different the civilizations are. There is still work to be done but in general they really thred the needle there.
As a AoM player I appreciate this video! 👋
I'd be curious to see you do more AoE4 content! The game seems to be in a good place now after its disastrous launch.
He is gonna have to apologize again and announce discontinuation when he get bored of covering it (:
It's still missing a proper editor and modding tools. The thing they put out, long after launch, pales in comparison to what the other AoE's have.
Personally, I'd love to see them improving the default hotkeys. Not sure how they could do that since the grid is different to AoE2's...But Alt+X to garrison units is a pretty bad default keybind.
I kind of agree but I guess it's hard because there's no build button so vills are more limited the space down there. Alt+X? I've never done that. I just hold alt and right click the building I want to garrison the same as I did aoe2. Never had any issues with it.
@@philhull6606 Ooh didn't know about alt and mouse 2. The bells and garrisoning definitely feel weirder
@@philhull6606 Oh it just works like that?
Honestly...I have 0 clue how AoM works and wish it was just a mythological version of AoE2.
Anyways, will prob give it another shot some time later eventually.
With that bit about Warcraft III and GTA, it makes sense. They criminally delisted the original versions (something that recently happened with Horizon Zero Dawn), while AoM: Retold never even did the same to the original, for purism's sake.
Wish Immortal Pillars is also available for the OG release though.
First time playing it when it came out, wanted to play the original but I need a new computer sometime. Had so much fun with the ability to choose a minor god per age just to spice it up.
Man this game looks fun, can't wait to get a new computer.
We need a "small trees" mod!
Some thoughts on why the winrates are the way they are:
Poseidon at the top makes a fair bit of sense. He's THE cavalry god, so he's basically the equivalent of AOE 2's Franks. Simple, easy to pick up, and very effective, he's the god pick equivalent of a brick to the face.
Egypt being at the bottom also makes sense. They have a very weak early game, being pretty much entirely reliant on counter units, which takes more skill and even some luck. Late game they're a lot better, but if you got off to a bad start it's not going to matter.
I do expect Poseidon to drop a bit as time goes on, but Egypt... probably could use a buff to their early game.
Good Game, very well done i think
As a Gaia main, I REALLY hope they fix the mass hero promotes causing lag
Its my go to strat if not early game Automaton rushing to just have a ton of heroes with Oceanus and later Atlas
I would love to see some AoM:R civ guides from you Law Here. I can't seem to wrap my head around the Egyptian civs, and would like to know your take on them.
I've had a pretty good run with Set over the last week. I'm surprised to see it that low.
It's nice to see the Aoe community growing. I play aoe4, I didn't check it out though. I appreciate the fact Aom have many gods to play, increasing game variability; this was con for Aoe4 for a time. It is also really nice to see matches with great number of players.
I hope they could add new civs to Aoe4. The game is really fun for me and balanced, but the content they have been updating, cards, aesthetic things, is really useless for me.
Tks for the great content!
I hoped that with a remake, they've been able to combat one of the main bugs in this game and that has always been the multiplayer. Old AOM was notorious with sync issues and lag issues during multiplayer. Three player multiplayer could freeze up end-game, even on LAN-parties with great connectivity. Luckily it makes this up for having the best campaigns of the whole series. But I'm happy the game is doing well overall, and it looks really good! 3D RTS's are hard to do good, without it looking too chaotic, this game is one of the exceptions where it looks and feels really solid.
So something to note about Sett and Ra-
They always have low win rate because they are generally the hardest gods to play.
Ras bonuses are strong but come in the form of active things you have to micro. If you don't hit your timings with him consistently, you are going to lose.
Sett is one of the only gods in the game with no economic bonuses. You need to have incredibly strong fundementals before you can even think of trying to abuse his unique mechanics.
I think the balance team should wait for the player base as a whold to get better before overbuffing those two gods.
THE ROCK GIANTS JUST EAT THE FUCKING BUILDINGS I LOVE IT
Haven't played it but I might pick it up on the DLC!
To all AoM players. I heard a roomer that forgotten empires is the devs for this, if so, get ready for Chinese to be broken. Just like every new civ in Age2.
Tho I will say they are a great dev team. While it’s fun to make fun of the fact every new civ is broken on release in Age2 (probably intentional to get people to play them), Forgotten Empires has always been really responsive to community feedback, well, except with pathing, but in general they’re fantastic.
Poseidon has an emphasis on cavalry, so it’s likely that Poseidon is the Franks of AoM. Cavalry are a strong game plan across all ELOs.
One thing I love about AOE2 is the great number of custom campaigns. Do you think custom campaigns will be developed for AOM?
I think that Retold will get a big spike when it's on sale for the first time because a lot of people are waiting for it
i love it! ive just been too busy to get into multiplayer yet, i will, im off aoe2 for a bit
It's STAGGERINGLY impressive that four out of five major Age of Empires games have playerbases that healthy in 2024. Microsoft is sitting on a goldmine of strategy games now, with AoE, Warcraft, Starcraft and Company of Heroes all flying Phil Spencer's flag.
Egyptians are particularly difficult to get a handle on in AoM because all their early game units are very specialised compared to their Greek or Atlantean equivalents and outside of myth units don't get a lot of power until Age 3 with the Migdol Stronghold. Their economy is also super weird compared to everyone else's.
Hey spirit would you be open to doing unit and civ breakdowns for AOMR? I know AOE2 is your favorite but I’d love to see the kind of content you do for that game on this game!
Age of Mythology remains a pretty special game, especially for those who love mythology. It has zero direct competition, nothing notable at least. If you want another medieval base building strategy game, you have like a dozen alternatives to AOE2 if you look around. I don't think any are individually as good, but most do tend to have some good features going for it that AOE2 lacks.
Playing around with all these different mythologies and god powers in a base building strategy game only really has one choice though and it's a good one.
Currently I am hoping that in updates they will make more upgrades visual, like how they worked on that in AOE3 too.
Like Thor's extra upgrades at the dwarven forge showing different weapons and shields. Would also be nice if chest armour upgrades gave a visual upgrade of sorts.
And Njord's tech that makes Norse walls tougher could make them fully from stone or otherwise actually look like a full upgrade.
Could also be neat if each Atlantean major god made their heroes their armour look different as heroes.
Like for Chronos it could become dark metal and for Gaia it could seem made of bark.
I can think of 3 direct competitors right off the bat. Warcraft 3 (especially custom games), Red Alert 2, and command and conquer generals. Oh, and total annihilation amd total annihilation kingdoms. All of these have superweapons of some form or another. Lord of the rings battle for middle earth, and halo wars 2 also have this idea. Age of Mythology is *far* from unique in having superweapons. Still a good game, obviously.
@@exeggcutertimur6091 None of them involve historic mythology which is the unique part.
@@exeggcutertimur6091 Stronghold Legends can be comparable if it has to follow historic mythology.
Potential with this is huge! Think about getting Mesopotamian and Indian mythologies into the game!
They'll never do Indian. Too much potential for controversy, too risky. Most likely civs after the Chinese are Aztecs / Maya or the Japanese.
@@ArawnOfAnnwn Really? What kind of controversy can come? I just want elephants and stuff

Both Aoe2 DE and AOM Retold are my top favourites.
So I split according to months. Although I am a soloist.
I hope what next dlc comes in Aoe2 de because of its hidden achievement.
It's funny to me that people who have issue with the game are specifically multiplayer types, besides the fact that AOM was always praised for its setting, campaign ( which is to this day the most beloved compared to all Age series games ) and yet they forget the most important fact of all - it is "RETOLD" not "REMAKE" it is not the usual remake as they would get with Age of Empires 2 or 1. It doesn't just take already existing game and boost things up with graphics, it changes things to give it a reason to even exist. It never intented to crush or replace the original. I for myself love the original dearly and always will and Retold simply changes it to more modern standards.
But i am not a multiplayer type so for me this was an epic win. Just to put it in perspective how much your opinion can change depending on what you are buying it for. Too many people limit themselves only to Online MP and i wonder why. Also there is an editor but of course i do not expect everyone to sink in hours to create something, tho i guranatee they would have fun doing so.
It's fcking great, I love it.
No wonder it works so well it has most features that make AOE3 better than AOE2 in most regards more information, more visual distinction etc i will never understand how AOE2 is so popular outside of nostalgic feelings xD
the biggest mistake aoe3 did was removing the need for villagers to drop the resources, that was pretty much a no, so even if i forced to play my self after, i still did not like the time/setting of the game and i really disliked the city/card thing, age of empires iv is my favorite one now in the age of empires series.
AoE2 is more symmetric in terms of balance and maps, and it doesn't have the idiotic cards system that up until recently you had to unlock by playing the game, putting new players at a disadvantage.
I want more gameplays here
6:20 this might shows players jumping around to find the right one and get a taste of what those got in store.!!
Once people figure out how to break the game they will just do that! We saw it in Overwatch over n over again (and blizzard, at first,. overbuffed characters only to nerve em back down again)
Doomfist- for example. His movement flow was weird and at first everyone died - until 2-3weeks later when they "got the hang of it" and he was indeed useful
Thank Zeus for the population changes \o/
I'm around 1300, and whenever I play against a Ra player I tell them they are brave souls.
I don't think I've lost against one yet, but they are still braver than me.
I would kill for a Nahua DLC
Feel its worth mentioning the huge discrepancy of Thor winrate at high ELO, though there has already been plenty of coverage on that xD
Desync is the major issue, half the fun is crazy ffa matches with the crazy god powers. Hope they sort it.
I'm not that shocked Egyptian Gods are suffering, especially with new players. They probably have the furthest from baseline economy engine in any Age game, and Monument build strategy can sharply constrain their Myth units. I haven't seen it much personally, but I'd expect Monument raiding to also be a problem players haven't come to grips with yet.
Good, they should use this momentum and release a new Aoe2 campaign.
Since 3 years I haven't had a videogame addiction until this game came out; help! It's good devs are now making balance patches that help people come time to time, but I hope the gods balances would be focused on fun rather than competitive playsyle in this particular game.
can't wait for the reworked chinese pantheon
More ApM content, Spirit!
I didn't get it right away because I'd intended to upgrade my 10 year old PC first, but I've had to postpone that a little, so I might just have to go for it in the meantime
I'm not sure about anyone else but I am consistently desyncing at the end of every ranked game, so if I want to see the post-game stats I have to replay the entire recording. Which can take a while if the game lasted until Heroic Age.
Neat that Freyr is at 50%; neither overpowered nor underpowered!
Egyptians are (in theory) weaker early on, relying on counter units and defensive play, and get strong in the lategame, so it could be that less skilled players are extra vulnerable to getting rushed down early.
its already been a month !?
free on games pass as well, i know myself and most of my group play through that.
Prostagma!
