Arizona is a massive market with LOTS of Canadians who winter down there. Problem was very few reside in Glendale. I think Arizona Hockey will work IF they get the right owner (hint this guy ain't it) and a proper arena in a proper location. My guess, you won't hear from Alex again, he'll take his 700m profit and run far away - you can bet he either won't bid or won't get the land he's supposdedly after on June 27th

this is the one part I don't get. Yeah there are some dedicated hockey fans there, but they've also had many community majorities vote against them over the years, and had numerous local governments do their best to screw them and force them out, but yet the NHL insists on coming back for more.
I don't see them returning with the current owner. This looks really bad in these two, just terrible. Glad for Utah, hopefully it works. Also Bettman needed to do this 10-15 years ago, he just wouldnt accept it as a failure because of ownership.

I have to agree with you. I’ve been watching hockey even before he was commissioner. And I have never seen him shake or struggle to answer a question like he’s doing here in this press conference.

He's always shaken when nervous--go back to his early Cup presentations in the early 1990s and you will absolutely see it. He's understandably nervous he'll have to employ a drastic maneuver on Meruelo with how far the latter's shoving his foot in his mouth.

But for example when my Bolts won the cup in 04 and all the other Stanley cup presentations I’ve seen. He seemed crisp and sharp to me. Even with simple television interviews.

Ticket sales in Utah are far greater than they ever were in Arizona ... and Utah isn't even the best spot in the USA to put a team. Let alone Canada.
One of the largest TV markets in North America, they don't want to lose that. There's also a ton of fans (you'd know if you bothered to look rather than keep your ignorant bias), but they and the local politicians don't want to support awful ownership.

what an absolute embarassment for both of these guys not only have they not been able to fill any of the seats in any of the places they have placed this team but they have been trying to ram this team from city to city hoping they build a fanbase. They had a fanbase in the 90s when they got the team from Winnipeg but years of mediocrity killed this team. Ray Ferraro said it best that this team should have been move 20 years ago.
Good riddance to the Arizona Coyotes. This team never got good fan support from the city of Phoenix. In reality, its fans are the blame for this hockey team leaving Arizona. Getting a new arena isn't going to be enough to save this team. There isn't enough fan support over the long term to keep a team in the city of Phoenix.
