    hi i'm Evelyn. thanks for stopping by!
    ➭ what do you do? i'm a tech project manager
    ➭ where are you located? Beijing
    ➭ what's your weird accent? i grew up in china, and lived in Chicago
    ➭ how did you end up in Beijing? Imagine leaving your life for a vacation and never making it back...would you ever accept the inevitability of moving on? That's what happened to me in 2020. After watching my entire life in Chicago slip away because of COVID, I made the hard decision to start over in Beijing, and I want to share the journey with you.

    Omg! I am also vegetarian :3 This june it'll be 10 years. It was seamless for me as a teen I told everyone that I'll stop eating meat one day but took me a long time to figure out what to eat and how to replace meat. Till this day I have trouble to eat enough protein, I'm just not a big fan, it makes my belly ache (I think it's cause my stomach is not acidic enough but there's no cure for that).

      I used to track macros and eat a ton of chicken breast for protein but same thing - found out later that I can't even digest that much protein🙈Now I just try to eat food that makes me feel happy + makes my body feel good - luckily there are tons of fruits and veggies in China🤩

      @@tapiocapress sorry to butt in in the convo but my husband is Brazilian, I lived there for a year - terrible experience food-wise. No meat replacements available, no options in restaurants cos they're meat lovers, produce is not great in variety and quality (worst tomatoes I've ever eaten, they over grow they cucumbers), they have only 3 kinds of bread - all white kind, they use too simplistic seasoning which gives flat flavour without any dimensions and they eat too much rice (i am polish, i have potato juice instead of blood in my veins :p). Oh, their desserts are too sweet. No compatibility with my taste. (Tho pineapple is soooo good there. And apples. So crunchy. But it didn't save the experience.) To be fair my husband doesn't like polish food either but you cannot take seriously an opinion of of someone who doesn't like veggies. :P

    • @marina2987
      @marina2987 3 года назад +1

      @@szpaqus not to have meat replacements kills me, i pass as a very picky eater when eating out even tho i'm not at all, because everything has meat. But we have very accessable veggies and fruit, which is a plus =) and yeah, the combo of rice and beans is the base of the brazilian meal, the everyday meal always has these two. I've never been out of the country so i can't compare to anywhere else, but i wish we had more incentive to eat meatless, it can be hard to explain to everybody that you're not going to starve or get malnutrition by going veggie 😆

    • @szpaqus
      @szpaqus 3 года назад +1

      @@marina2987 that happens to all of us, no matter the country, we have to explain that no, we do not eat grass and sticks :d Poland only now has gotten the whiff of progression when it comes to not eating meat, replacements are now pretty widely accessible (tho nothing compared to USA) and Brazil just cannot go much longer with the excessive meat export and consumption since the water issues will just worsen with time, cattle uses up too much of your resources. I think not many people will like any other country's cuisine better than what they grew up eating, it's cool to learn and try new stuff but it's always an acuired taste and you just miss things that the new country doesn't have.

      @@szpaqus sorry but this is absolutely not true. i am brazilian and have been VEGAN since I was a teenager in Rio de Janeiro and it is VERY easy to be vegan. not only will any regular supermarkrt have loads of accessible meat replacements, but the entire base of Brazilian cuisine is vegan, which most people will eat with meat on the side (vs. french cuisine for example that has animal derivatives incorporated into most dishes). fruit and vegetables in brazil are absolutely fantastic, and there are so many amazing street food options too (pastel de palmito - a fried rectangular pastry filled with palm heart), cuscuz (sweet and glutinous tapioca with coconut), acarajé (black eyed pea buns in raw red palm oil filled with okra and other delicious fillings), açaí, which is a cold berry smoothie... the list goes on and on and this is regular street food. not to mention ANYWHERE you go you can get rice beans, salad, vegetables and pasta. there are also lots of pay per kilo restaurants where you can pick and choose what you want to put on your plate. also, in all big cities there is lots of immigration from japan and china so you can find tofu to buy, but that is a bit more specific since its not what most brazilians usually eat. one of my favourite brazilian dishes is called moqueca which can be made with plantain or palm heart and at least in rio you can find in a handful of restaurants in different parts of the city. there are also arab-inspired veg options both in restaurants and street food because of the lebanese immigration waves. also there is a very strong seventh day adventist community on brazil which produces a lot of more industrialized vegan options (vegabom superbom). there is a new brand of meat alternatives called futuro which make sausages and burgers and honestly is better and cheaper than beyond burger. you can get that at several burger chains, meatballs in the pasta chain called spoleto, and at most major supermarkets. could go on and on but i think being vegan in rio is easier than in most of europe (where i currently live). because of my work i have also spent months on end in rural towns in all regions of brazil and while the diversity of options falls, it is always possible to eat well. hope that helps and fell free to ask any questions.

      + 1 There are so many fun veggies and fruits for very cheap in China. Even western ingredients - I was able to find some at reasonable prices on Taobao. Taobao is a big rabbit hole you just need to find the right search terms (and spend a million hours browsing🙈)
