We really enjoy watching your videos on your channel. Thank you for sharing your tips. My boys Carson (14 yrs.), Wyatt (11 yrs.), and I fish each weekend and love seeing you fish on our home waters on Spring Creek, Penns Creek, Little J., and introducing us to new water in PA. Keep up the great work!
Well well, Thank you very much! I'm very happy hearing you got your boys into fly fishing, great memories! Love helping out the kids. Hopefully, one day we'll bump into each other on the stream. In the meantime, stay happy and have fun! God bless and tight lines!
Feel your pain Scott!! These last few weeks everywhere I ventured to the streams were pretty much blown out due to all the weekend rain !! Thanksgiving weekend was forced to fish off the banks , did ok , but watching you land that fat rainbow, man that’s what’s makes it all worth it !! Enjoyed your video , keep it up!!!
They quit stocking Green Spring a couple of years ago. They stock the upper section by the church for a kids derby every year. Glad to see you fishing my home waters. Green Spring also gets poached a good bit. I quit fishing it, a few years ago you could catch some bruisers in there, but not lately. If you ever want to try some other local spots shoot me a message. Tons of great water in the area.
john-paul Povilaitis Hi JP! Thank you very much for the invite, hopefully I can take your up on that sometime, thanks again for watching and commenting.
Great to see you out! Best cold weather tip I have ever picked up (I do a lot of steelheading) is by Kelly Galloup...when you catch fish, take your gloves off and land the fish but then always carry a small dish towel or golf towel inside your waders to dry your hands off immediately...that way your gloves stay dry, hands stay warm, and you protect the fish. Really enjoy your videos as usual!
As usual another nice video that I enjoyed very much, glad you could get out, my November went down the tube with the snow fall and rain. I am just going to tie flies and wait for Noah to come along and pick my wife and I up. Tight Lines Scott.........
Len Sherlinski Hello Len! Ha, Noah’s Ark! I feel your pain, hope the fish appreciate all this rain. I’m sure I’ll get up your way sometime in the Winter. Tight Lines Buddy!
Wow. Great video! Funny you posted this. I was JUST thinking today I need to hit a spring creek to salvage this weather. Great minds think alike my friend. Awesome bow!!!!!
Tight Lining MD Thanks Mike, honestly your kind of water, you’d like it. If I get out that way again I think I’d try the Letort and Yellow Breeches again. I’ll give ya a txt if I do.
The618mcgoogan Ha Ha, thank you!! Omg, another guy pointed that out to me too, can’t believe I didn’t see that while I was fighting that big boy. Funny how that stream I either catch big boys or dinkers, rarely average size fish. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Nice video as always. Didn’t get out to fish as much as I wanted in the fall due to the plentiful rain we had and hunting season. Not a bad year for me just gonna be short of 600 trout landed this year. Beat my personal record from last year of over 450 I got. It’s been a good year.
Hey Scott, thanks for the video. Can you talk a little about your nymphing set up? It looks like you're using a colored mono sighter. Is your fly line a weighted tappered line to match your rod, or are you using a euro nymphing fly line? Thanks, love the channel.
justindesign Hi Justin! Thank you very much! When I’m strictly nymphing, I use a 10.5 or 11ft/3wt nymphing rod with 3wt Wulff Triangle Taper line, off that I use a 50” Cutthroat Furled Leader, off that I use 4-5 feet of 4X depending on the depth off water I’m fishing, then I start my in-line tandem rig, tying off the bend of each hook, flies about 14-15 inches apart all with 4X. I rarely use a float indicator or a siter line section. Check out my Nymphing Strategies Part 3 video more on my technique. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@pawoodsnwater7551 thanks for the reply, and the recommendation of the other video. You read about so many different ways to rig a nymphing set up, so thanks for sharing yours. I was just fishing these same waters last evening and brought a few brookies and a bow to the net, no slabs though. Again thanks for sharing.
Hi woods n water We lived in pa for 50 odd years in the king of prussia Ridley park area.. and fished lots of the streams you are fishing... I must say you are one mean fishing machine... Have you ever fished the Loyal Soc Creek in Sullivan County and if you did .. how did you do?
Geralyn Haggerty Hello Geralyn! Small world I grew up around KoP, went to Upper Merion HS. Thank you for your kind words. Never been up to the Loyalsock Creek yet, hope to get up there this year. If you ever see me on the stream, please come up and say Hi!
PA WOODS N WATER omg amazing we are living our fishing experiences thru watching you.... I have never seen an expert like you fish..seeing all the streams in Pa is wonderful..thank you for taking the time to share what you are doing in hunting as well .. your dog is amazing too.. We will certainly come up to say hi and I’m wondering if we may have fished aside of you and didn’t know it... thru the miracle of utube we can fish together. We actually thought there was no fish in the streams of PA until we met you...we sit at night after dinner and watch you... thank you again and may you have a Merry Christmas...we will continue to watch..
Omg, Yes, Absolutely!! I invited guys all the time to fish with me. My email is scottmxdad@yahoo.com, please let me know the next time you’re up at the Tully and if I can, meet you and your family and we can fish together. Thank you for your kind words. Happy holidays.
You’re welcome but that’s not my intention, I hope my videos help everyone put a couple more fish in your nets, really like seeing others have a good time out on the stream also. Good luck and have fun!
Hey Scott, I know this one is old, but do you remember- you started in Newville, but a lot of this action is not in Newville, I think. Did you work upstream from Newville, or downstream?
Eileen Corcoran Hello Eileen! Ireland! Wow! Yes I am shaking the rod, just giggling my flies through the pools giving them some action in a small spot instead of stripping them in, good observation! Nice to hear from you. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Jesse Leonardo Hey Jesse! Thanks man! Sorry I didn’t call but was going into some unknown territory. Will get together, keep in touch and good luck with the new job.
Jon Burgo Hi Jon! Well I guess I was a little over dressed, started out 29 degrees but then got up to 41, actually a very nice day and no wind. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Scott, heading down to B.Spring sometime this week (weather permitting) and would like to know, where is the regulated water, is it above the 233 bridge? Have you ever fished below the 233 bridge to Nearly Rd.? I saw a lot of nice area pull offs and was wondering how the fishing was at the lower end? Got to get out, wife caught me fishing the fish pond in the back yard, I am desperate!!! Tight Lines...
Len Sherlinski Hi Len, the CRFFO section is about 4 miles upstream from Newville, it starts at “ the ditch” where it comes out from a hatchery and extends about 3/4 mile downstream, you can park up around the ditch and a little waterfall or at the lower end where there’s a driveway bridge crossing the stream, if you’re traveling that far, maybe try to hit the lower 2 miles of the Letort it only about 15-20 minutes from Big Spring, something to consider, a half day on each stream. I like throwing streamers black or white along the Letort, nymphing it’s ok but gotta search out the riffles, good access right off 81
Scott, my grandson and I are heading to Big Spring Creek this Sunday, is that road still closed (RT. 3007) just before you get to the Fish Commission area? I"m looking at the road view with Google and it shows Big Spring road closed in that area.@@pawoodsnwater7551
Hi Len! Hmmm, I don’t know, I went up to the regulated area up Big Spring Rd from Newville, I went into Newville off 233 off 81 from the turnpike. Good luck on Sunday, sorry can’t make it, I work weekends. I’m surprised Cross Forks isn’t fishable up your way, or by Sunday Spring Creek should hopefully be around 150-160, I like fishing that above Bellefonte at that flow. Either way , good luck and have fun!
Yeh, your right, Spring and B.Fishing creek should be in decent condition, but they are only 45 min from the house, I can get them during the week. I never fished B. Spring and it is one that is on my bucket list. Fished Letort many times but missed B. Spring.
I've fished the C&R area of the Big Spring. I've seen some big fish but not had a lot of luck. I know exactly where you were off of 233 at the start. Did you work up or downstream from there?
Jordan Houck Hi Jordan! I worked downstream a little but no luck, the drive upstream at a couple spots until I got to the regulated water. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Gorgeous wild rainbow at Big Spring. I visited Green Spring in late September but couldn't really find a decent place to park. The shoulders were just too narrow. Some nice water in the pastures but it looked like private property.
I know you know better, but none of those rainbows were natives. Only brook trout are native to PA. All other trout, rainbows and browns that self reproduce are considered wild trout.
Jesse Mellinger III Ha! You’re absolutely right Jesse, my bad. Thanks for watching and commenting. Awesome to see that one stream can support all three species of trout. On this video I didn’t catch all three, but my first couple times there I did. I was a little surprised I only caught rainbows this time. Oh well, all of them are fun. Thanks again and tight lines.

Hi Chris! You’re so right, thanks for your comment, it was a beautiful fish.
Reminds me of the rainbow trout I lost at the Rio Chama here in NM. I miss fishing in philly and the surrounding area.
Wow! But New Mexico, a little bit of fishing and hunting heaven.
Believe it or not there’s a lot of trout and bass and walleye places to fish.

No worries buddy any time I’m ready if ya head out this weekend give me a shout !!! If it ever stops raining !!
That big boy is awesome. Was in town or up in the CRFFO?

Most of the time I put it above my top fly and the weight is all depending on what flies I'm using, water depth and current flow.
