  • In this video, I fished Big Spring Creek near Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. I caught a bunch of small wild brook and Rainbow Trout nymphing and also with a small streamer. The water temp was 50 degrees, and the air temp was in the low to mid 50s that day - cool and cloudy. This was my second time exploring Big Spring and it was definitely a lot different then my summer visit. If you enjoyed this video, please give it a thumbs-up and consider subscribing for more fly fishing and fly tying content.

You are fishing what at one time, many years ago, was a world famous Trout fishery for a wild population of large Brook Trout. You're wading and fishing a Spring that the great fly fisherman Theodore Gordon fished. If you have never read the trout and fly fishing writings of Theodore Gordon, you should.
Sadly, Big Spring and its world famous Brook Trout fishery was ruined by Man's intervention and the creation of a Fish Hatchery at the headwaters of Big Spring (long ago closed). Although there has been some promising results with stream restoration efforts in later years...Big Spring will never be as it once was.

@@hotspotnymphing - Absolutely one of the greats of fly fishing...Theodore Gordon was the originator of the Quill Gordon fly pattern. He fished on Big Spring Creek as well as other Limestone streams in Pennsylvania.
Here is a short video about him :
