When doing what you are doing... tie a women's stocking over the end of the red hose... it will capture the calcium particles... if you do not use a stocking .... the calcium particles will go back into the pump and back into the filter screen... thus cleaning the filter screen again....p.s..use cooking oil on the filter screen o ring... it will prolong life of the o ring and help seal it better...p.s.s one time I was in a jam... I used my sock! And if you want.. add a anti scale filter on the incoming cold water side... change filter every 3 months... and never buy vinegar again! Antiscale filter is easier, faster,, and inexpensive p.s.s.s. antiscale filters will also remove alge and slime in the water!

Isn’t there a part in the tubing where the hot water is leaving the heater and about to go into house that needs to be cleaned? I think that junction in tubing may be clogged since I have very hard water where I live and my hot water pressure suffers immensely. Any info on that?

Be a great idea to flush the system after your done too with clean water. Disconnect the intake hose and close the valve off and then turn on the water intake valve while the hot water side is open with the hose into a drain. Let it drain for 2 min to flush out the vinegar and any other debris you may have left. Also, I've found adding a sock with a rubber band on the discharge hose to be a great filter so you're not running sediment back through the vinegar flush.

Also... tankless units typically have an air intake filter, which should be disassembled and cleaned as well. This is located on top of the unit, between where the air intake pipe connects to the unit itself. It acts as a catch-all for any dust ,debris, or buggies that may work their way in from the outside.

This was an exact replacement for the old one that lasted about 10 years. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx7yWIKcrbA9KMHkGSfcgxW2lsjHT6B8Sh The top of my mitigation tube by my roofline was just a 90 elbow which allowed too much debris to fall down into the fan, eventually ruining it. Without this issue, I bet it would have kept running another 10 years. When I replaced this fan, I added an extra elbow joint so the top tube now it does a 180, which should solve that problem. The radon guys around here wanted to charge me a $300 diagnostic fee, then parts/labor (probably close to $600 total). I installed this all by myself in about an hour for the cost of the fan; it would probably be even easier/faster with two people. FYI the manufacturer's warranty greatly differs depending on whether you install it yourself (1 yr warranty) or have a licensed installer do it (10 yrs).

  • @5ghostshadow
    @5ghostshadow 3 года назад +5

Mine failed in 3. I did all the maintainence. First the fan went, then the burner went. They were covered under the warranty and repaired. Once the board went and it wasn't covered under warranty I went back to the tank. I wanted to love it. Maybe I had a lemon, but issues from others didn't boost my confidence. Ill wait a few more years as popularity continues to grow.

The frequency of the cleaning depends on the water in the area you live in. I just picked up a gas water heater that probably hasn't been cleaned in 20 years. I turned it upside down and let it soak in vinegar overnight.

Excellent video....I would just add that you should turn off the electricity at the breaker box.

The green color comes from the copper piping. Using vinegar in copper accelerates the corrosion process. Copper turns green when it corrodes

Is there any way to clean the tankless and avoid corrosion of the copper pipes? Or will the pipes just have to be replaced sooner?

I did exactly what you said it didn't work for me. After many trips to the hardware store, I was finally able to get the correct hoses/adapters, etc. I hooked everything, turned all the levers like you said. Put the sump pump in the bottom of the 5 gallon(probably a little more) bucket and turned on the pump. It worked fine but nothing, NOTHING came out of the red flushing valve. I let it run for a little over an hour and when I came back the vinegar was as clear as the day I bought it. I felt both hoses and the one hooked up to the pump was working but the other, nothing...No vibrating, shaking...nothing..it was as if it was dead on that side. I don't know what to do now. I'm using regular garden hoses, not washing machine hoses. I even turned the knob that controls the water and nothing but when I took the hose off, there was plenty of water coming out until I closed it again. Why is this not working for me? Oh one more thing...I took the filter out and it was CLEAN as a whistle and this house is 5 yrs old and has never had this tankless water heater cleaned.

My plumber did not recommend installing isolation valves seven years ago.
After having water runs cold mid-shower getting more frequently in the last one year, I’d decided to do it today.
No pump, no isolation valves, i managed to finish it within two hours, for about two dollars, and never hat cold shower again!
Simply turn off gas supply, turn off and unplug electric power supply, run hot water taps dry, and you are ready.
You need two flexible shower hose with suitable threaded ends (usually 20mm), a large plastic syringe of 100-200ml ( if you don’t have electric water pump or electric drill-driven water pump), bucket, vinegar (1-2L will do).
Usually inlet and outlet hose are of rigid copper tubing.
    Now it’s the fun part;
To seperate copper hoses, you’ll first loosen their 20mm nuts, both inlet copper tube and outlet copper tube.
Next, remove copper tubes sideways by lift the heater upwards for a few millimeters by loosening its wall mounting screws (loosen a few turns ONLY! Not removing them).
Now, fasten shower hoses onto inlet and outlet.
Outlet hose into bucket of vinegar (1-2L will do).
(PROCEDURE WITHOUT PUMP) Inlet hose’ open end placed higher up, about the same height as top of heater.
Use syringe to draw vinegar from bucket, pump vinegar into inlet hose’ open end. Repeat for a total of 100 repetitions ( that’s about 10L of vinegar flow, from the same amount of vinegar in bucket, recycled), this can be done in an hour or two, with a helper preferably.
You’ll see vinegar turns to green tinted color.
    Then purge all vinegar (properly).
After that, its about flushing out vinegar residue with clean tap water.
Find ways to inject clean tap water through inlet hose (garden hose will do), for a few buckets full of clean water out through outlet hose.
Then its time to reinstall everything back.
Remove shower hoses, both inlet and outlet.
Reinstall copper tubes, both inlet and outlet.
Gradually turns water back on, check for leaks at both inlet and outlet.
    Wipe clean everything.
    Turn gas back on.
    Dry your hands.
Plug in and turn electric power back on.
Check for hot water at taps everywhere in the house for continuous flow of hot water, and you’re good now.

    Thanks.
I bought a used heater that needs to be flushed.
Can the heater be flushed before it is installed ?
If the heater is clogged, will this method open the flow?

Great video! Would an in-line filter coming off the pump into the supply side not be beneficial so you’re not pumping scale back into the water heater?

Found the Rennai filter screens online for $6. Just as easy to replace.
