I'm grateful that I have the benefit of being exempt for personal property tax for one vehicle and exempt from the home property tax due to being a disabled veteran. I bought a 2024 BMW M4 Comp last year and my personal property tax was over 3k!
Average my monthly expense went up 20% comparing to before pandemic and salary stays the same. Houses price , interest rate goes up so much that I feel like my money is only worth half now
Personal property tax in NoVA is the highest in the nation! It’s insane. My 14 yo car is depreciating in value, yet my property tax on it keeps increasing every year. Mind boggling!
@jason..No it hasn't what DELUSIONAL World are you living in...mine went up 50 dollars...stop spreading Misinformation and disinformation..😡..JUST LIKE BIDENTARD..LIES LIES AND MORE INFLATION LIES..
I live in Loudoun Co as well, just outside Leesburg in a large home on 3 acres. Our mortgage and utilities come to around $4k/month: $3200 mortgage, $250 electric/month avg; $200/mo HOA dues (includes trash/recycling, pre-treatment/snow removal from roads, and road maintenance, as well as lawn care in common areas); $160 for Fios internet & phone; we're on propane (have a buried 1000 gal tank; have it filled up 2-3 times/yr) costs about $3k/year; we have a well and septic, so we buy salt for the water softener and need to have the septic system serviced every 4-5 years. And, as a 100% disabled veteran, I'm exempt from property taxes on my home and primary vehicle. Tolls-$150/month, car insurance (adult kids still on our policy--5 cars total) is almost $700/month; $200/yr for insurance on mu motorcycle.
If you add in Household repairs/maintenence, gifts, vacations then you are at 10k/month easily. Then after your kids are out of daycare... You will be saving for college/weddings. .... Living and spending is never ending.
Lived in Fairfax/Vienna. One thing people don't tell you is how rude and entitled the people are in NoVA. If you can not help their careers they want nothing to do with you. Plus you get a lot of "Do you know who I am?" Karen type of attitude. So glad I don't live there anymore.
I've lived in Northern VA for over 20 years (military assignment brought me and my family here and stayed after retiring in 2014). Lived a year in Annandale/Fairfax Co, 11 years in Dale City & Woodbridge--2 diff homes/neighborhoods--Prince William County, and since 2016 on the outskirts of Leesburg/Loudoun C. I don't find people rude or acting entitled. There are a lot a shitty drivers in the DC metro area, though. Despite the high cost of living, this area is a great place to live--lots of entertainment and sports venues, parks/recreation, outdoor activities, mountains close by, lots of historical sites, the beach (MD/Delaware/VA) 2-5 hours drive away depending on where you live and the beach you choose), 3 major airports (Dulles, BWI, National Airport).
@@mr-vet Nah -- NoVA sucks hard. Arlington is the worst. All of those shitty drivers? Yeah -- they're shitty people. The same shitty people that backstab you at work with lies -- the same people who think that driving a Tesla entitles them to damage everyone's property on the road -- the same people that abuse their dogs and then use their dog offleash to kill other dogs and babies outside -- the same people who think riding a bicycle means they can run over walkers and get away with it --- yeah, *those* shitty people are literally like 80% of the entire NoVA population.
Thanks for watching. I have 2 car notes totaling $1650/month. For this video I only included cost that are associated with living in the area that’s why I didn’t mention it.
Fairfax county, loudoun county, Arlington county, city of falls church and city of Alexandria all expensive. Someone has to pay for those bloated massive local governments.
But what is missing in the video is that these counties appraise homes on the higher side.So you can look at 30% hike year over year on home property taxes like I have experienced the past 2 years!
The problem with Northern VA outside of the DC.. is that it's a one party area and the Democrats can get away with just about anything as their is no checks and balances !!! The local govt is bloated and the school systems waste too much money ...and when someone comes along and wants to reduce taxes - such as reducing the personal property taxes .. people in Northern VA didn't vote to let that happened !!! because so many people in this area are brainwashed and vote for the same type of people .. big spenders, high tax politicians. I moved out west to a red county and my taxes are a fraction of what Northern VA is. ... school are still good, roads are great - but its run by Repulicans , yet still have checks and balances on fiscal spending.
You should have moved to one of those Red state pinnacles of success like Alabama, or Mississippi, or Louisiana, or Arkansas, or West Virginia, or Missouri, or ... 🤣
@@kenbob1071 I moved to a RED area .. Western VA and love my standard of living.. my dollars go farther .. with very low property taxes , lower property values , so a brand new home for a fraction of DC area prices. If you don't have to live in around the DC area , believe me its so much better- higher quality life.
The schools will be worse. Don’t lie. Nova has the best public schools of the nation and that comes at a cost. I don’t think they are brainwashed, they just are kore community oriented and sharing the wealth.
@@1001Balance I don't have any kids , so don't care .. but many families with school age kids say that the Winchester area schools are good. I did hear that Fairfax County schools are not all that good. I would take ok schools and lower taxes and affordable cost of living any day , all day long !!! Higher taxes are going directly to Administrator and other staff salaries and strong pensions. Ask yourself , do you want pay $10,000 per year in taxes vs $2000 per year ... I will want to save $8,000 every year and take a nice vacation and have good meals .
My Audi takes Premium as well, but it only need 91 Octane and not the 93. Check to see if your BMW falls into the same category and save yourself a few bucks on a fill up. Every little bit helps.
I moved to Ashburn in 2021. Rent was $1700 something. This year, I got a lease renewal form for $2400 something. That's a $700 increase in around 4 years. That's just base rent. In this area, you will not find a single apartment complex where the base rent is the final number so it's even more money, generally over $100 added on in hidden fees. I eat 1 full meal a day and work in the data centers here doing both hardware and system administration work. After all this time doing everything I can to save, all I have in savings is $2000 which doesn't even cover a single month's rent. I rarely take time off and live alone. I rarely go out too because anything outside of walking trails costs too much to continue saving whatever I can scrape after paying the cost of living here. The Internet's internal functions are my passion but is it worth getting legally robbed every month?
Keep it up Cody, you just can't be a datatech forever if you want to thrive here, or you need to get roommates maybe. There's a lot of competition for datacenter techs, work on some more specialize tech skills, go up the stack a bit, and you'll command a higher salary, and benefit moreso from the job market in this area.
South Virginia is like a whole different state, lol. Our taxes are quite reasonable here. Nothing like back in NJ. Apparently, north VA I similar to there tho, wild!

@@LivinginNorthernVirginia Too bad, but I love that cement gray color! Don’t be embarrassed. I’m one person and i don’t eat out at all it’s all groceries and two times a month take out. I only try to buy healthy food which is expensive. I literally was shocked that i spend 970 a month on groceries and two take out a month. Cost of groceries especially healthy foods are too expensive now a days it burns my budget every month

People complain about cost of living in NoVA and yes it is high. But also have very strong economy and job market - for all the career opportunities I had, I’m so glad I moved to nova
Pffff. NOT. the economy is just as bad here as it is anywhere else. If you don't have a government clearance, you're gonna end up working a cleaning job or retail. All the other jobs have left the area.

Traffic is insane at rush hour. You can't put a price on that. And road tolls are crazy.
