With the water shortage in Las Vegas and watering restrictions I had to remove my grass and install artificial grass. So far so good.

I agree 100%, but let's not give golf courses a pass when it comes to environmental concerns, The amount of fungicides, pesticides, herbicides, and fertilzers that they apply on a weekly basis is off the charts, especially here in Fl where I live. You need an arsenal of questionable products to suppress torpedo grass and to keep fungus' under control on a nicely manicured golf course. Horrible.

Artificial grass in a doubt area like mine stops dead grass breaking down and erosion of the soil, I put class 5 washed gravel under mine which also allows excellent drainage, you talked about pollution caused by it, how about all the chemical to fertalize or weed a lawn that I don't use, the best investment I have made, if I was in a climate where we had good rain and no water restriction I would consider a real lawn but I am certainly not

I don't think you understand the cost of watering a lawn in drought areas. I have had a Marathon ll lawn for years but it takes a ton of water to keep it green and fertilizer. Las Vegas just put a ban on all natural lawns. Lake Mead is at historic lows and there is a serious drought. I am redoing my backyard and I took all my Marathon grass out and I will be putting in drought tolerant plants and will be going to a drip watering system.

Southland Sod Farms understands the need for conserving water. We grow 10 different varieties for individual, distinct needs. Drought tolerant varieties, installed with an efficient improved irrigation system. is a good solution. We also understand that a lawn is not for everyone. Many homeowners DO want a lawn, so we continue to research, develop and serve the needs of our southern California clients. We also product an organic fertilizer. Please visit sod.com to find the lawn varieties which are best for your needs. We ship throughout southern California.

@@southlandsodfarmsgenuinema4321 I have had close to 4000 sq feet of Southland Sod Marathon 2. I am the one that took care of it for 20 years. Mowing fertilizing it, patching in sod where needed and of course I had to water it a ton during the summer so it would not dry out. I watered early in the morning and used both Southland’s starter fertilizer and the recommended fertilizer on an established lawn. I have a large water bill starting in the spring to fall. The SF valley had a 112 degree day last summer and over the past year the temps have got hotter. Marathon ll is the right sod for my area. I cut it at 2.5 to 2.75 inches every week. I just decided I am tired of the large water bills and I am putting in natural drought water tolerant plants starting this year. I agree you grow the best sod but it is expensive to maintain.

@@berry.travels3637 In my post I have had 2 Marathon lawns in Southern California. I have to admit when it comes to sod for a homeowner they are the best but like a said they take a lot of maintenance. It’s has to be fertilized 2 times a year, during the summer the lawn take a lot of morning watering with sprinklers. I am talking about a ton of watering and the lawn has to be kept at 2.5 inches height so every week the lawn needs mowing. In winter time once every 3-4 week. The lawns still get clover that hast to be maintained. There is a high cost each year to keep a lawn. Had my lawns for 20 years and I am the one that mowed it and installed it.

As an Englishman astro turf is ridiculous. Covering your garden with a glorified plastic mat destroys everything about convening with nature.
