    I have been cutting my own hair for the last 15 to 20 yrs and I am still learning. Now with RUclips and tik toks videos , I have learn more on how to do my own. Something I recommend is to invest in good clippers. I remember thinking when the hell is someone going to upload a video on how to cut your own hair.. Now its all over the Web. Do it free first month, then payment next one. I just wanted to drop a comment and let you know about 5 years ago I watched your vids as a freshman in college and the realization I needed to get my haircut and didn't want to spend $20 every two weeks. I used your vids and I am still cutting my own hair to this day. Over 5 years' worth of haircut on my Wahl clippers, saving my hundreds if not thousands of dollars. I even cut my roommate's hair and used that as a decent little side hustle. I hope you're staying safe man and just wanted to let you know you are a great teacher! Cheers man, keep that fade rockin.

    Since I first watched this video about two months ago, I have now given myself three haircuts. I just gave myself my the third one. As could be expected, this one was the best so far. This time I ad-libbed a bit. I don't do a true bald fade I start with #1/2 Guard. So, I started with a #1/2 guard closed for the 1st guideline. Then I did the second guideline open. Then I did the 3rd guideline with a #1 open. For each guideline I did something different though. I inverted my clippers on my first pass for each new guideline to make it easier to see my new lines, starting at the top of the newest guideline / section and pulling down, working my way around my head as you demonstrate. Then I flipped the clippers right side up after each new guideline and shave upward to remove the remaining hair in that section. I did this for all three guidelines. The interesting thing I discovered doing it this way is that it automatically blended the sections. I did not end up with any lines when I finished. I had my wife check it out because I though maybe my eyes were just playing tricks on me, but she confirmed that it was all blended. This was my experience and I can;t say how it will work for anyone else. Thanks again Ricardo! Respect and Appreciation! No doubt you are as excellent a Barber as you are a teacher.

      Just out of curiosity, what is the most challenging thing you've accomplished from learning DIY on YT? I DIY a bunch of random stuff too. The most challenging for me was probably learning motorcycle mechanics once I started riding years and years ago. It took a long time and a lot of trial and error, but now I can actually build superbikes (and any other motorcycle really) from the ground up. I had basically no mechanical knowledge when I started, except for basics like oil changes, brake pad changes, & tire changes on a car lol. I learned pretty much everything on YT. Later on when I met my 2 buddies who happen to be professional AMA racers and also run one of the best shops for superbikes in the world, they taught me all kinds of cool stuff. Made me a way better mechanic and rider/racer too. Great dudes.

    What’s really amazing is how you can use both hands for cutting. I’m great with my dominant hand (right), but when I try with my left, it’s a disaster. So I have to cut both sides with the right hand, which limits my second mirror usage.

    Very nice taper fade, my man!
    I started cutting my own hair back in 2014 when haircuts in my area of the country got to $20 to 25 dollars a cut, and a tip on top of that. I said: "That's it! I gotta learn how to fade my own hair. Why not?"
    I learned off a video here on RUclips titled: **Best** How to cut your own hair tutorial *video* (Shadow Temple Fade). It's 3 separate videos. I needed a vid which fully showed me how to soley use the guards just as you presented.
    For the first 2 months I was horrible, and was wondering why my fades weren't coming out properly and guidelines were still visible, especially the first. I was using basic Wahl hair clippers from Wal-Mart.
    It soon hit me that I was needing the 1.5mm (which is a #1/2 for Wahl) and the #1 1/2 guards. As soon as I ordered those guards, wow! My fades improved immensely. It didnt take long at all just after that that I began to perfect cutting my own hair, with hard part, edge up and all, with my comb-over hair style.
    It takes me about an hour, hour and a half at times. But I don't mind at all. I put on some low volumed music, enough so I can hear the clippers trimming the hair to accomplish my haircut.
    Now, I do still go to my local barber every now and then. But I have cut that down to about once every 4 months. So that's 3, possibly, 4 times a year. All depending on my mood for doing it myself, or when a special occasion arises for it and I don't feel like doing it myself.
    It's really saved me a lot of money by doing so, not to mention rewarding, knowing that you've taught yourself to perfect your own haircuts and can also cut your own family and friends who are guys if they're in need.
    Accidentally ran into your vid while researching some videos on some new trimmers I've been looking into. But your fade on the thumbnail looked so clean, I was enticed to watch it. Believe it or not...those $17 Wal-Mart clippers from 7 years ago are still functioning properly and putting in fabulous work! Haha. I just feel it's time to up my game and get me some professional grade clippers knowing I've got the technique down.
    It's awesome of you that you took the time to help those out to do so. Especially during these doeful times.
    Take care and stay safe, brotha!
    (P.S. Great tutorial and fade! 👍😎🤘)

    Love the tutorial! Really detailed! Ive never heard of that 0 guard. I need to go buy it now. Ive been using the .5 guard for the last line and a 1.5 guard open and closed to get my fades. But I saw your method to be muuuuuch more detailed for a higher quality fade

    • @xenophagia
      @xenophagia 2 года назад

      0 guard? Can you give me the time stamp where he shows the 0 guard so I can understand in case I happened to miss that part? From what I understand, there's nothing you need to buy, and 0 is just not using a guard on your clippers. There are .5 and 1.5 guards, but I'm pretty sure 0 (no plastic guard) with the mechanical guard on the clippers fully extended is equivalent to .5 and and if you use a 1 guard with the mechanical guard fully extended, it's equivalent to a 1.5, etc. I would double check this though because I could be completely wrong and I don't want to mess up your haircuts lol.
