The reason for correcting mislabeled genres isn't purism or gatekeeping. It's so fans of the genre can find quality playlists and artists that actually have what we're looking for. If we want our favorite styles of ambient DnB or otherwise to have trendy or distinguished labels, let's try making some new ones! And let's give other thriving groups their peace and solidarity. :)

which is why i gave up on yt "breakcore" mixes and started searching on soundcloud which actually worked REALLY well.
You know how definitions of words change over time? It's when enough people collectively use the word with its new definition. If enough people call something breakcore then it becomes breakcore. That's the way the world works.

@@ihatemeww sure, and this has been observed since the genre was created. the difference is that the prior progressions in the genre's definition have been much more gradual than what has happened since Sewerslvt. The genre's popular definition is so far from what it was 3 years ago that it completely lost the things defined it.
The rapid change in the genre's definition has understandably upset people. Real breakcore still gets made and still has a sizeable + passionate audience. That's why this debate is ongoing and will continue until a side chooses a new genre name.

Nobody is hating on it but it can be disheartining and a little frustrating when you are looking for one thing and are constantly being shown another.

Your songs were fucking *standouts*! I stumbled on this mix today and I had it on in the background when I worked. Twice, there was a song where I just had to stop working and reopen this tab to see who the artist was, because the music was fire. Both times it was you.
As a simple rule of thumb for new listeners:
Easy listening, sounds like a Playstation one song: jungle (2000s ps1 and dreamcast songs)
Little to no chops, loops and has more melody: dnb (machine girl)
Little to no chops, loops and has more melody but has more of an ethereal vibe to it: Ambient dnb (sewerslvt)
Chopped breaks, high speed, makes you kinda wanna throw up from pure insanity: old breakcore (venetian snares)
Chopped breaks, medium to high speed, has some insane moments but can still be easier to listen to: new breakcore (this playlist for the most part)
Obviously this is a very quick run down and doesn't cover so the differences but that's part of what makes them unique. Artists can switch between styles and genres so not everything sewerslvt makes is Ambient dnb she does make some genuine breakcore but mostly adnb.

@@E4XeniTh glitchbreak isnt a genre, the songs labeled as "glitchbreak" were already a different genre with its own name and uniqueness, i dont see how thats going to help, to lump a bunch of genres together because they felt like it and because they were too lazy to search for the specific genres. i checked the reddit and literally all of the songs were just dnb, ambient dnb, jungle, breakbeat or breakcore songs which were labeled as whatever tf "glitchbreak" is.
generally theres no reason to have a genre like this, it unironically creates even more confusion rather than helping people find the genres they are looking for or learn what to label certain songs as certain genres.

I'd say this is genZ breakcore (I called it that because of how people made breakcore today, just plain simple melody/sample which is the opposite of THE breakcore)
but hey, there is some real breakcore and good breakcore in this mix and I appreciated it! keep it up boys.
Old school breakcore is more chaotic and surprising than modern breakcore, but that doesnt mean modern breakcore isnt breakcore. Genres change, and so did breakcore.
Not to mention, these changes were made over the course of 2 entire decades so i mean...?
and also, all of the songs in the mix are breakcore.
there may be some songs that ride the line between jungle and breakcore but still bleed into into it slightly
if i didnt care about what new listeners would think i wouldnt put those songs and instead put incredibly chaotic songs which really capture the true nature of the genre

Thank you. I was one of the ones who hopped on the ambient dnb/jungle train in late 2022 when sewerslvt and such became super popular. I enjoy that stuff, but it annoys me a lot that people mislabel it as "breakcore." I don't have any malice toward the people who don't know any better (I was one of them for a while), but I don't have any respect for people who insist on trying to hijack the breakcore moniker just because they saw it called that on Tick Tock.

I'm pretty much an outsider to the Breakcore and DrumnBass type of sound but I've run into them a few times from the older days of being a weeb without knowing what it was.

indeed it does go with the aesthetic but when something is called "breakcore mix" and says nothing else but also has other genres in it it gets quite annoying.
thats not to say i dont dont enjoy the other genres, they're cool, but if i want to listen to breakcore, i want to listen to breakcore, not dnb/jungle/breakbeat

Since you seem to like ultrakill,(assuming you like more fast paced/aggressive songs) i recommend my second mix, it has more aggressive tracks in it such as cursed night and how unsightly, which are amazing songs.
though if you like the more tame ones there are still some amazing ones in that mix too

So what's the actual defining characteristics of breakcore?
This question comes from someone who came across the genre through playlists like this that claimed to be breakcore. So I'm genuinely just curious
breakcore is a genre that comes from jungle and always includes amen breaks as the focus of the song, with them being chopped up into pieces and the drum sounds re-arranged.
Breaks that are unusually chopped and repeat very little. Any popular break(think break, etc...) does the job not just the amen break. Compression, distortion and pitching are also notable characteristics and occasionally gabber kicks. Jungle can sound very close to breakcore as jungle is centered around breaks too, but the main difference is breakcore being faster(around 190+ bpm) and crazier.
Altough this playlist too has some jungle tracks it has some great breakcore tracks (like 10. 12. 13.).
While Breakcore is loosely defined, it has some distinct characteristics that determine the genre. Heavily edited breaks, lots of distortion, generous sampling and High-BPM are elements that accompany the sound
@@tomatocat there are no jungle tracks in this playlist, the only one that could resemble jungle would be "unfriended 168" which is still breakcore.
@@pinkddpat idk the drums in that track don't seem that well chopped, and they're somewhat repetitive as well. almost the same for the next track "スサノオ". I pointed out those tracks in particular as those what caught my eye as in: "yea thats breakcore", not to say these tracks aren't bleeding into breakcore, or are them at all, just that there are some pretty mixed songs in here.
ofc there will be people out there arguing that even what I pointed out wasn't breakcore will insist on things like gabber kicks, distortion or intricacy, but imo the essence of breakcore lies in the drums and that's what got me hooked on it.

glitchbreak isnt an actual genre, people use it to lump jungle dnb and breakcore together (atmospheric/ambient songs only) because they are lazy.

@@pinkddpat yeah no, modern breakcore is much more varied than the tracks you've selected, which would fall under the "depressive breakcore" (atmos dnb-influenced) label. there's a lot more to modern breakcore than this: mashcore, metal fusions, idm-based, lolicore/kusoikore, and much more

@@pinkddpat depressive breakcore for instance is breakcore with atmospherric dnb and ambient influences. mashcore and lolicore/kusoikore are straight-up breakcore subgenres and idm-based refers to a very particular form of breakcore that is familiar with drill and bass and is closely related to western classical music insertion

Man why does all the breakcore gotta be ambient slow tracks, its like people trade all of the color in the speed and life of the melody for a cold dead melody with fast living drums. Fine if you need that but this aint it chief.
I think breakcore is getting stuck on the same sound now. But we always have artcore if you want something harmonically more interesting.
@usuariodeyoutube3469 that's always piano and rarely ever a soundfont piano that sounds intense, and artcore almost always has sweeping to its melody like its classical.
