    I always loved these two stick Mack’s even with the Quadruplex transmission. I had extensions on mine and had them curved. Had a flame from the stack and the smoke was blowing black as coal.

    My dad drove many a b model and r model with twin clubs. From dual,tri and quad boxes. I used to watch him split the sticks reaching thru the steering wheel. That was 40 plus years ago. Dad drove for 50 years. Had between 5 and 6 million miles under his belt!

    • @1940limited
      @1940limited 9 лет назад +2

      I had the pleasure of driving only one twin stick Mack in my life time, but I'm glad I was able to do that. It was a 56 B61 single screw tractor with a 9-speed trans. The range stick was away from the driver and you didn't split 5th gear. I'd love to drive another one sometime, but don't know if I'll get the chance. I'd probably be a bit rusty as it's about 40 years since I've driven one, but I'm sure I could get down the road with it. I knew a guy with a 68 R model tractor with a twin stick. The range stick on that model was closest to the driver. In our 56 both levers were perfectly straight and the same height.

      @@barrygrim4661. I've never driven a quad box, but had lots of time in an R model w/- triplex 50 years ago. Many drivers fitted the longer and thinner CAT handles to the sticks, but I left mine as they were but had the sticks bent in closer together. to facilitate an easy one handed shift from third direct to fourth low.
      Remembering we sit on the other side of the cab in Australia. Procedure was : Left hand on top of both sticks - fingers bring main stick into neutral and across the gate - thumb brings compound to neutral - push main into fourth position - increase revs slightly and put pressure on compound which will easily slip into gear. This method was a lot more tidy looking than what our mate in the B model was doing and could also be used in a LHD truck.
