      @@mikeakey3358 It’s because it’s been “cool” to hate on Russ over the past few seasons. That’s literally the only reason. Yes, it’s actually that shallow and ridiculous.
      These people all claim he’s washed up while he’s still throwing for 3,000 yards and over 20 TDs in a season. His first year in Denver he only threw 16 TDs. That’s completely understandable and excusable though.
      It was his first year with the team. Some lower than average numbers should be expected in that situation. Especially after we all saw how poorly Denver is being coached and managed over the last two years.
      Anyone with even the slightest understanding of football should know these types of situations happen all the time throughout the league. They should also be able to comprehend how those situations can affect a player’s performance positively or negatively.

      He was 16 for 29 overall, right? He went about 10 for 13 in the second half. That's called being on fire! He was rusty early on, that's it! Mahomes has more interceptions than TDs right now and hasn't really played outstanding since 2021. Are you going to call him washed?

    I mentioned in a different video on a different channel that the Steelers were "boom or bust" given the uncertainties under center. As a Ravens fan, I feel a mixture of frustration and vindication. Frustration, cause any success to the Steelers will naturally come at the expense of my Ravens (hate them but respect them, that has always been how our rivalry is defined). Vindication, cause I was proven right; either Fields or Wilson finding form would be a major godsend for the Black and Gold brigade, and I'm surprised both found their forms after rough starts. If the Steelers can keep this momentum up with their offense, alongside their still potent defense, the AFC North crown is not clear cut as it was before the season.
    Between the two, I personally would roll with Fields on account of his youth. He still needs to shake off the rust from being in that Bears system for years, but he has shown enough flashes and competency to justify the Bears taking him in the 1st round (though the Bears messed it up with their incompetence at nurturing a QB). My only knock against Wilson is age, since the Steelers need a long-term solution at center, and Wilson is turning 36 this coming November. The Steelers need to think carefully about who to commit to, cause you can only have one guy under center throughout any game.

      Just because fields is young doesn’t mean he’s the answer. Passing requires way more skill than people give it credit for and fields is not a skilled passer. At least not to the level that the nfl requires to compete at a high level.

    Let me remind the doubters. The Steelers are only paying Russell Wilson $1 million. $1 freakin million lol , it’s a no brainer that they should use him. And if that doesn’t work, JF can always fill in. With a great running back, offensive line and defense. Steelers literally have no weaknesses. They are a real contender to SB, and I’m not a steelers fan lol

    • @one80srocker89
      @one80srocker89 26 дней назад

      They aren’t a SB contender. If Fields plays then they don’t have a passing game. No passing game means the D stacks the line.
      Wilson makes them a team that can compete against the top tier teams so as long as we continue to see much of what we saw when the offense opened up against the Jets. But this team is one Russell Wilson injury away from going back to not being able to pick up 1st downs. It is clear the offensive philosophy is about playing scared. Wilson gets to do more of what he wants. T should make for at least a more interesting 2nd half the season and make this team a playoff contender beyond just a wild card. But they still have a steep hill to climb as many division games are coming up and fortunately they tend to do well inside the division. But until they win a playoff game, I wouldn’t put them in the SB category. And they did say they brought Wilson so they. Could “win a playoff game.”

    • @one80srocker89
      @one80srocker89 25 дней назад

      @@erichudsonjr5465 I don’t disagree with you. But our offensive philosophy plays scared. Russ had freedom back there as did Ben.
      Case in point, Ben goes down in 2019. Mason comes in. Maybe you recall the game in SF that year? The 49ers turned the ball over 3 times in their own end of the field in the first qtr alone (4 times total). And here come the hand off plays. We had that team dead to rights yet couldn’t capitalize on their turnovers. We lost that game.
      That is the true identity of the Steelers offense.
      Against Dallas, Allen came in for one play. He threw the ball what looked comfortably. Then Fields came back and made a few throws like that.
      I think part of this is how the coaches dictate the offense but also, Fields just doesn’t have that level of passing game.
      I’m glad he has Wilson there as a mentor though! And I do like Fields more than I thought I would.
      But Wilson clearly has better instincts at the position. I mean, really, Fields going up against Rodger’s, Mahommes, Allen? The offense can’t score.
      And I say about an injury situation because Wilson pulled his calf so early on. We don’t know if he is going to be injury prone now or not. He is 35 now.

    • @one80srocker89
      @one80srocker89 25 дней назад

      @@erichudsonjr5465 I do appreciate your points made.
      Yes, with Fields it is more a running game. The defense can stack the line because there isn’t a passing game.
      With Wilson you get balance because they can pass and mix it up, use all the receivers, and back the defense off which opens up the running game.
      I wouldn’t talk SB contender especially so soon in the season. They got a lot to prove and lotta teams to go through yet. Two games against Balti, KC game, and a road game in Philly in which they never win!!!! I hate when they have to go there.
      After the Jets game though, they gave us something to be excited about.
      With Fields though, they are probably still needing a mathematical situation to help them get into the playoffs. I don’t see him winning in the playoffs but wild things happen in wild card games.

    I think many people looked at this at a micro level - the BIG picture is Russ is probably THE best vet in terms of knowledge, experience, and leadership (not skills today obviously) for any young QB to learn under. Steelers already paid $2M, so why not maximize their return by having him lead, even if it's just for 11 games. When will Steelers (or any team for that matter) EVER have such an amazing opportunity in having a solid vet to teach and a potentially GREAT franchise QB on the same roster for this cheap?! The value and opportunity in this is immensely overlooked.
    In summary, I'm a huge Russ fan and hope him the best, but reality is, unless he leads the team to the conference champ this season, Steelers will be offering a contract to Justin next year.
    Fun fact - Justin several years ago said that the QB that he like to model his game after and looked up to was Russ (young Russ was an amazing running QB AND accurate, so didn't rely on running all the time). It makes this exact situation w/ Russ leading all the more perfect situation for Steelers to set-up a long-term and promising future.

    The most important phrase in this vid is BALANCED OFFENSE. When Russ was great for us in Seattle, it was because he was playing teams that were scared to death of Marshawn Lynch and so they couldn’t stack against a short quarterback. Pete Caroll knew it, Mike Tomlin knew it, and if Russ is finally humbled enough to get it, you guys could have something great again.

      Nobody was scared to death of marshawn lynch relax. He was a competent runner. And the defense was great. Russ made the offense better because of his own abilities. He was always scrambling around making great throws down the field. I remember it when Matt Flynn was supposed to be the starter then this shorter guy wearing #3 was running around making beautiful touch passes I was like who tf is that.
      People want to act like he was never impressive in his own right but he was. He’s a talented thrower of the ball which is why he was also drafted to the MLB. The accuracy was rough just like Fields for a lot of the game, even on some big gains that his receivers bailed him out on. His inability to run did hurt us on some drives hard unfortunately too.

Steelers would’ve won the game with Justin! Invest in the future and let fields continue to develop in real game time

    I don’t get the fields hate Wilson did great against the jets lol he should the jets suck and Wilson has experience fields did the best backup job in my eyes and will learn Wilson won’t be around for us in 2-3 years he’ll be too old to play fields will learn and be starter after he develops the fact he isn’t let about Wilson starting and cheered for him shows he’s a team player and that’s who we need to keep

  • @JamesHardy-yi1ph

    Steelers will probably end up drafting a guy. Won't be a 1st rounder, maybe not even 2nd rounder. But 3rd-4th round seems like a good spot to pick. Probably a decent year to considering QB stock is low in the draft. Kind of like it was when we snatched Pickett in 2022, lol. I wouldn't be surprised to see a guy like Carson Beck or Quinn Ewers available in the 3rd. Raiders and possibly Browns will be the only teams looking for QB and we know it's basically Shedeur or Cam Ward, no one else in the 1st. Grabbing a guy like Beck or Ewers to compete with Fields will keep him on his heels. He's be expected to win the job, but the point is to make him not feel comfortable like he would if only Kyle Allen was on the team.
    There's also a flip side to this scenario where we keep Russell for another year or 2 if he keeps playing at a high level. There's a lot of free agent QBs that will be available in 2025, so letting Fields walk isn't exactly an issue when guys like Sam Darnold, Zach Wilson, Jacoby Brissett, Marcus Mariota, and Andy Dalton will be available. We could also probably trade for a guy like Bryce Young or Will Levis. Any of the guys could serve Justin's current role as backup to Wilson.

      The easiest thing is the keep fields... it's wild that you would even suggest that we would draft a guy when we have our future in-house that we've proven we can win with right now... especially now that he's learning from an experienced vet

      Those Jets had a defense that was number two in total. That unit ain’t no pushover.
      Russ came off injury and threw for 260 yards and 2 TDs. No picks either. They haven’t scored that many points in a single game since they put 37 on the Chargers in November of 2021.
      That’s pretty good. That’s certainly worth being excited about.
      We’re already seven weeks into the season. In that time, the Steelers have shown consistent improvement and are becoming a threat in the AFC.
      They have a pretty good chance to win the North this year. Maybe even get that elusive playoff win and have a nice base of confidence going into next year.
      So far, Tomlin has handled this “rebuild” that started when Ben retired pretty darn well. It won’t be long at all before we’re seeing the Steelers become true contenders again.
