I think many people looked at this at a micro level - the BIG picture is Russ is probably THE best vet in terms of knowledge, experience, and leadership (not skills today obviously) for any young QB to learn under. Steelers already paid $2M, so why not maximize their return by having him lead, even if it's just for 11 games. When will Steelers (or any team for that matter) EVER have such an amazing opportunity in having a solid vet to teach and a potentially GREAT franchise QB on the same roster for this cheap?! The value and opportunity in this is immensely overlooked. In summary, I'm a huge Russ fan and hope him the best, but reality is, unless he leads the team to the conference champ this season, Steelers will be offering a contract to Justin next year. Fun fact - Justin several years ago said that the QB that he like to model his game after and looked up to was Russ (young Russ was an amazing running QB AND accurate, so didn't rely on running all the time). It makes this exact situation w/ Russ leading all the more perfect situation for Steelers to set-up a long-term and promising future.
Bro you see the video of Mason Rudolph hitting on that guy's girlfriend through the DMS and he's like bro what the fuck this guy's got my fucking team tank and then he watches Mason Rudolph get sacked
The most important phrase in this vid is BALANCED OFFENSE. When Russ was great for us in Seattle, it was because he was playing teams that were scared to death of Marshawn Lynch and so they couldn’t stack against a short quarterback. Pete Caroll knew it, Mike Tomlin knew it, and if Russ is finally humbled enough to get it, you guys could have something great again.
Nobody was scared to death of marshawn lynch relax. He was a competent runner. And the defense was great. Russ made the offense better because of his own abilities. He was always scrambling around making great throws down the field. I remember it when Matt Flynn was supposed to be the starter then this shorter guy wearing #3 was running around making beautiful touch passes I was like who tf is that. People want to act like he was never impressive in his own right but he was. He’s a talented thrower of the ball which is why he was also drafted to the MLB. Yes he thrives in a balanced team system. Fortunately Pittsburgh has a very similar build to Seattle, heavy run, good defense. I expect them to keep having success
When watching the game (in person), it was honestly just a frustrating win. In passing, Russ didn't do anything more than I would have already expected from Justin Fields. The accuracy was rough just like Fields for a lot of the game, even on some big gains that his receivers bailed him out on. His inability to run did hurt us on some drives hard unfortunately too. I honestly think the eye test didn't really separate Russ from Fields at all. It was another game where we didn't turn over the ball and the defense won it for us more than anything.
Nah I haven’t seen fields layer the ball in between defenders like Russ, throw a consistently accurate deep ball and all he throws is line drives. IMO Russ running the offense would have COOKED that sorry ass Dallas defense lol oh yeah with 5 seconds left on the play clock,on the goal line,Russ sees a hole in the jets D,makes the audible and gets the easy TD. Fields isn’t on that level yet
Russ was way better and had a fraction of the time to work with the WRs. Jf had all of training camp and was sub mid in six games. If JF was a good QB he would have beat that bad Dallas defense.
@@user-yt9ro7md2h yes you have, they called it back. Fields has had a few plays called back, and more than couple drops. I'm not saying Russ is the answer, but I dont know what lenses you're using. He scored 10 total touchdowns and had the lead in Dallas, and the defense folded at the last second. Y'all over scrutinize and patronize the guy. I actually watch games and Fields is a playmaker with his arm as well.
Something that good QBs do is throw the balls to playmakers. Not everyone is going to be wide open. Throw it to Pickens where he has a chance to make the catch.
I know they probably won’t and probably shouldn’t do this, but what if for shits and giggles they put Justin Fields at RB in the red zone and they run a bunch of RPOs and read options.
I think you’re wrong, and I say that as a Seahawks fan. If Russ is humbled enough to accept that he is at his best when a strong running game opens up the field, then Pittsburgh might just have a great opportunity here. And I do enjoy welding and blacksmithing, so thanks for caring!
I love Fields but he's still lacking in certain fundamental areas Russ has been to 2 super bowls and won one. He accomplished that in the same amount of time Fields has been in the league. He's in his mid 30s, so he's still got gas in the tank. I don't think there's any question who should be leading the Steelers' offense right now
Kenny PIckett was 7-2 with the steelers. QB is one position, they win with defense, field goals and a running game. Is Kenny Pickett also better than Russel Wilson. LMAO!
Shit like this blows me away, Who the hell did they beat? NO ONE! Ain't knocking Russ, But damn Everyone talking like they just blew out the Chiefs and Taylor Swift Damn! I have mixed emotions about starting Russ in that game, I'll give both reasons, 1:) it was a great time to give Russ the ability to knock off the cobwebs. 2:) it would have been a great game for Justin to build his confidence and be a part of a complimentary win, Everyone was scoring, offense, Defense and special teams, that would have been a great win under Fields. But let's be honest They could have won with a 3d string QB!
I love how you’re claiming it. They don’t have a franchise quarterback when Russell Wilson is a franchise quarterback if he continues to play the way he did on Sunday night. He will get an extension and will be there for the next 2 to 3 years just infield as an average quarterback, who still can’t read a defense or throw an anticipation he’s been increasinglyturnover prone and has been bailed out by refs and pure luck this season on the turnovers.
The Steelers are extremely consistent when it comes to drafting talent at WR. They have been for decades. Just look at some of the names they’ve drafted since the early 70’s. It’s crazy how many incredible WRs they’ve found. A trade would be pointless. They’d have to give something away to pick up anyone. It’s not gonna happen. They’ll roll with what they have and pick up a guy in the draft. That’s how the Steelers operate.
@@JahWontPayTheBill The Steelers organization has said several times that this is the year they’re playing for a Super Bowl. A rebuild is likely coming soon as the defense is aging, they need a WR2 now in order to achieve their self proclaimed goal.
Stellers getting Russ, one of the best QBs in the league, for one million is insanity. The hateful narrative around Russell Wilson is such a clownshow. Anyone watching Russ knows he is amazing
It’s funny you don’t mention the drop passes Pickens and everyone has off Justin’s perfect throw. If the offensive line would’ve blocked and WRs caught the ball’s the way they did for Russ…. Steelers would’ve won the game with Justin! Invest in the future and let fields continue to develop in real game time
The only Accurate recap this guy did with justin fields was the Denver game and that wasn't even accurate because they also have a really good defense. So maybe it was the raiders game that was the most accurate
I don’t get the fields hate Wilson did great against the jets lol he should the jets suck and Wilson has experience fields did the best backup job in my eyes and will learn Wilson won’t be around for us in 2-3 years he’ll be too old to play fields will learn and be starter after he develops the fact he isn’t let about Wilson starting and cheered for him shows he’s a team player and that’s who we need to keep
Steelers will probably end up drafting a guy. Won't be a 1st rounder, maybe not even 2nd rounder. But 3rd-4th round seems like a good spot to pick. Probably a decent year to considering QB stock is low in the draft. Kind of like it was when we snatched Pickett in 2022, lol. I wouldn't be surprised to see a guy like Carson Beck or Quinn Ewers available in the 3rd. Raiders and possibly Browns will be the only teams looking for QB and we know it's basically Shedeur or Cam Ward, no one else in the 1st. Grabbing a guy like Beck or Ewers to compete with Fields will keep him on his heels. He's be expected to win the job, but the point is to make him not feel comfortable like he would if only Kyle Allen was on the team. There's also a flip side to this scenario where we keep Russell for another year or 2 if he keeps playing at a high level. There's a lot of free agent QBs that will be available in 2025, so letting Fields walk isn't exactly an issue when guys like Sam Darnold, Zach Wilson, Jacoby Brissett, Marcus Mariota, and Andy Dalton will be available. We could also probably trade for a guy like Bryce Young or Will Levis. Any of the guys could serve Justin's current role as backup to Wilson.
The easiest thing is the keep fields... it's wild that you would even suggest that we would draft a guy when we have our future in-house that we've proven we can win with right now... especially now that he's learning from an experienced vet
@@erichudsonjr5465 Only thing Fields has proven is he can be a 2nd running back on the field. He's not where near a franchise quarterback. Bro is just a black Taysom Hill.

Those Jets had a defense that was number two in total. That unit ain’t no pushover. Russ came off injury and threw for 260 yards and 2 TDs. No picks either. They haven’t scored that many points in a single game since they put 37 on the Chargers in November of 2021. That’s pretty good. That’s certainly worth being excited about. We’re already seven weeks into the season. In that time, the Steelers have shown consistent improvement and are becoming a threat in the AFC. They have a pretty good chance to win the North this year. Maybe even get that elusive playoff win and have a nice base of confidence going into next year. So far, Tomlin has handled this “rebuild” that started when Ben retired pretty darn well. It won’t be long at all before we’re seeing the Steelers become true contenders again.

After the Jets game though, they gave us something to be excited about.
With Fields though, they are probably still needing a mathematical situation to help them get into the playoffs. I don’t see him winning in the playoffs but wild things happen in wild card games.
I love Wilson and he had a great szn last yr, but guys it was one game against the jets.
Hey. You want my Primatti's sandwich? It's my signature sandwich.
😂
Russ wasn’t brought in to not be number one. Great move! 👍🏻✌🏻
Fields is the future where ever he ends up
Best QB room in the NFL as far as bang for the buck.
I love Fields. He was a beast vs the Colts. Id take him on my team.
Forgot about Mason Rudolph key backup quarterback in this storyline 😅😂😢
Agreed
Anyone who thought Fields should continue being the starter either didn’t watch the games or doesn’t understand football at all.
“justin fields still found a way to do well on the stat sheet” ur saying that like it was his goal lol
Wilson competing for super bowl 🏈. 😂
Something that good QBs do is throw the balls to playmakers. Not everyone is going to be wide open. Throw it to Pickens where he has a chance to make the catch.
You were not talking that talk before the game
I know they probably won’t and probably shouldn’t do this, but what if for shits and giggles they put Justin Fields at RB in the red zone and they run a bunch of RPOs and read options.
Welcome Steeler fans to the Russ experience. In all likelihood, that was the best game ya gonna get out of him. Good luck and stay welding ✌️😂
I think you’re wrong, and I say that as a Seahawks fan. If Russ is humbled enough to accept that he is at his best when a strong running game opens up the field, then Pittsburgh might just have a great opportunity here. And I do enjoy welding and blacksmithing, so thanks for caring!
I love Fields but he's still lacking in certain fundamental areas
Russ has been to 2 super bowls and won one. He accomplished that in the same amount of time Fields has been in the league.
He's in his mid 30s, so he's still got gas in the tank. I don't think there's any question who should be leading the Steelers' offense right now
STILLERS GAHNTA SUPABOWL!
Kenny PIckett was 7-2 with the steelers. QB is one position, they win with defense, field goals and a running game. Is Kenny Pickett also better than Russel Wilson. LMAO!
Shit like this blows me away,
Who the hell did they beat?
NO ONE!
Ain't knocking Russ,
But damn
Everyone talking like they just blew out the Chiefs and Taylor Swift
Damn!
I have mixed emotions about starting Russ in that game,
I'll give both reasons,
1:) it was a great time to give Russ the ability to knock off the cobwebs.
2:) it would have been a great game for Justin to build his confidence and be a part of a complimentary win,
Everyone was scoring, offense, Defense and special teams, that would have been a great win under Fields.
But let's be honest
They could have won with a 3d string QB!
Pick up aWR1 Now
Pickens is a true WR1 with Russ under center
Learn the name Pickens
The Steelers are extremely consistent when it comes to drafting talent at WR. They have been for decades. Just look at some of the names they’ve drafted since the early 70’s. It’s crazy how many incredible WRs they’ve found.
A trade would be pointless. They’d have to give something away to pick up anyone. It’s not gonna happen.
They’ll roll with what they have and pick up a guy in the draft. That’s how the Steelers operate.
@@recs8564He is.but we still need another receiver
@@JahWontPayTheBill The Steelers organization has said several times that this is the year they’re playing for a Super Bowl. A rebuild is likely coming soon as the defense is aging, they need a WR2 now in order to achieve their self proclaimed goal.
Stellers getting Russ, one of the best QBs in the league, for one million is insanity. The hateful narrative around Russell Wilson is such a clownshow. Anyone watching Russ knows he is amazing
Ngl is Justin Fields a bad Qb at all idk?
No he isn't this guy just stinks at recaps
It’s funny you don’t mention the drop passes Pickens and everyone has off Justin’s perfect throw. If the offensive line would’ve blocked and WRs caught the ball’s the way they did for Russ…. Steelers would’ve won the game with Justin! Invest in the future and let fields continue to develop in real game time
If we don’t keep Najee I will be very very sad
Mitch Trubisky played better in chicago then Justin Fields.
You guys are ridiculous! Justin Fields was not allowed the leeway that Russell was given. SMH!
Only if the steelers traded for Adam. Wilson would be MVP.
I think the steelers tried to get adams, but adams wanted to play for rodgers really bad so the steelers didn't have a chance.
Go Russ!
Russ is now, and fields is next!!!
@@JamesHardy-yi1phOr he could be Lamar Jackson 2.0 in a couple years. Steelers fan here and that's a wild take. Russ will probably stay here for 2-3 more years.... possibly win a Super Bowl. JD will be the franchise guy after that. JD is only 25
Fields is now trade bate ?
Lions vid asap
By the start of next year, justin fields will be on one of these teams:
Raiders, titans, colts, browns, Giants, panthers
And he will be starting. F the Pittsburgh Steelers and the entire clueless, 💩 talking fan base. If you think he’s going to sit and back up an inferior QB for 2 years, you’re sadly mistaken.
This vid cld have easily been the opisite but im glad it isnt
If the Steelers were geniuses they would have figured out that Tomlin is the problem years ago
I pray you repent of cussing god bless you
It’s still just a plan to stay in the NFL middle class, 9-10 wins, first round exit…yay I guess?
Na. Steelers will win a playoff game. They will
wilson has you fooled. probably should have given him at least 2 more games before you made this video. the steelers played a lousy jets team. wilson should have done well. so don't go out there making it sound like the jets are super bowl bound, and wilson took them down. wilson will show his true colors against better teams.
Russ didn't look that good. You preach eye test but he had a lot of under throws and bad plays
Tomlin sucks wilson is a pretty boy put Fields back in and fire that stupid coach
Russel will be bench next a few game. He trashed , remember Denver and his owned team dump him. He will fools you next game , he not like 10 years ago.
1st
Steelers fans gonna find out real fast that this move will not pay off
Steelers arent broncos….vice versa
what wont pay off? we are 5-2 who tf cares im having fun now idgaf what happens just wanna see good hard fought entertaining games at the end of the day not 13-10 boring wins
Russ is perfect for us.
Yea because that hefty million dollars they are paying Wilson is a make or break deal for the franchise. Everything rides on that huge salary cap hog Wilson 😂
They beat the Jets in turmoil. Calm down.
@@JahWontPayTheBill Steelers are a good team, but Russ was not the reason. Jets are a team in shambles right now for obvious reasons.
when the steelers win its oh... the other team was bad even tho they were favored the jets have aaron rodgers, davante adams, garrett wilson and breece hall ALL ON THE SAME OFFENSE then they're ddefense before that game was top 10 but yeah the jets are just a bad team with no talent.
Momentum
@@snowman9642 still doenst change the fact Russ is better than Fields and thats the point of the video
