- A short video detailing the differences between a genuine and fake ps3 controller. I played with the fake one for a year just thinking it was broken (wouldn't charge, broken analog sticks) then brought a new one and realised the other was a fake. I'm usually good at spotting fakes but this fooled me so chances are a lot of people have fakes.

I wondered why my new controller was so stiff and awkward to use and my old one was so easy to handle and manoeuvre using the analog stick. My new one is fake.

Another thing I've noticed is that the fake ones have more of a mat finish whereas the real ones are more gloss. In other words the real ones are much shiner when you hold them against a light. I've also noticed two stickers that generally appear on the fake ones. One is an A1 model and has N1158 in the middle. The other just has lots of information on and talks about complying with Canadian standards. I've also noticed that you can actually buy these two stickers from shady sellers, bit of a giveaway! Any new controller on ebay now with be fake for sure.

2019 update, the fakes have removed the indicators as shown in the video as they have updated the controller overtime. The only real way to tell is by opening the PS3 controller, or by moving and clicking the joysticks. Joysticks are super hard to push and sound really loud when clicked.
I really thought all 3 of my controllers were fake. Every video that I have seen so far about to tell what is real and what is fake by clicking the analog sticks. Problem is that they all sound different. Now I know I have all real controllers. Thanks!
So I bought this new one the other day and it literally feels soooooooo different compared to my broken one and literally everything about it is just straight up garbage because when I play call of duty and press the sprint button I literally have to press it hard not like a light press that you usually get when you get your first ps3 or some shit but like it’s a hard push like if I pushed it even harder it might’ve broke that’s how hard I push it that’s what she said btw but other then that I literally waisted 60 bucks on this and I watched this video and it helped me figure out how to spot fake ones thanks man you’ve earned a sub.

And one thing to say. The Sixaxis feature in the fake Controller don't work correctly. I tried play Heavy Rain with a a fake controller (at that time i don't know that was a fake, but now i'm very sure), and the sixaxis features don't work. And some PS2 games don't work with that controller.
Can you tell me that,do fake controller has bluetooth for wireless connection,because the one i have is not supporting wirelessly...???
I have 2 controllers and they are like "Real" as in your video. But when I press L3 or R3 in one controller, it's different sound than in other controller. Is one of them fake?

Damn I just bought one at a local shop and thought it was legit I knew something was off as soon as I opened the box.
And i did the same today. Money in drain! I should have gone for a well reviewed third party controller. I chose this assuming it had sony branding and he said its old so il gove you a deal. And it was a DEAL. But he got his margin i got a trigger which activates after 80% depressed! What a DEAL! 😂😂
Just bought one off eBay from a USA seller, listed as official etc... noticed on the back the font for SONY is incorrect, and says "Sony Computer Ectertainment Inc." on it, not even spelled correctly. Oddly, I am in Canada, and the sticker says compliant with Canadian code etc... though reading that I noticed digital was spelled digigit, and apparatus is alapparatus. Annoyed because won't connect via bluetooth and came in the box you see in stores.
Mine is a fake one but has everything you mentioned in the real one and actually charges.the only problem is that the L3 button doesn't work.
Got a brand new one from amazon.com
and the analog sticks are loud when pressed, its annoying af.
not to mention they're stiff, and my old one feels much different in the hands.
with the new one, i shake it & hear a rattle sound while with my old one, i dont hear a sound.
the top of the box is blue (new one) so could I return it for a new one?

What is the givaway at 1:10 where you only see them from the top?
Only thing that I notice is that the analog sticks are at an odd angle on the fake one, and maybe the color on the triangle might be less green (unless that's caused by the lighting).
Trying to find a couple of decent pre-owned/used ones for some DIY controller mod projects and new ones cost too much to experiment on with my low-tech soldering skills lol.
And I've never had any luck with legitimate 3rd party (like madcatz) controllers lasting more than a couple of months, so I can only imagine that an actual fake (a real fake? haha) is going to even worse.
Unfortunately a fair amount of the used controllers on ebay are only pictured from the top.
The PSX button is the only thing that gives it away for me. It's pretty consistent between different models and hard to counterfeit to loot the same way as the original. Besides not 100% sure, there are so many fake ones...
i have two CECHZC1E (Original Sixaxis Controller). I buy only Sixaxis controller. You have chance to buy fake Sixaxis Controller too, or no? Because almost every kontroller on ebay is Dualshock 3, and the Sixaxis is older than Dualshock 3.

I guess in 2022 it doesn't really matter as long as you have a working controller.

almost 2024, the love's still there, couldn't sell my PS3 with some of the greatest games ever made... now that ps5 is current gen I guess I can be considered a "retro" gamer better than a poor one😂

I love my ps3 and been collecting sealed games of all my favs! Just got Splatterhouse, (opened) and lollipop chainsaw (Xbox sealed but ps3 opened) and I never hear about any of those games. Never played a single gta and still won't tho lol

I bought a fake a month ago. It broke on the first day. I had to replace the battery with the one I had in my original controller so that it would work. Needless to say, other things broke when it was opened and some buttons are now triggering by themselves. The original is not much better but it lasts a bit longer. These things are made to break #facepalm#
Huh. I bought a seemingly new PS3 controller off Ebay for £15. I expected it to be fake, because its so cheap but apparently everything seems legit, only the battery is covered in blue foil but it's in the same spot and everything. It connects well the analogs aren't bad (Except that they're not flat, but that's a PS3 thing). It works fine as well. I'm very happy with it

However I purchased a Sony PlayStation 3 Controller from eBay yesterday. The model number is CECHZC2E A1 and the battery information states DC 5V 610mA. Do you or anyone know whether that is a fake or real Sony PlayStation 3 Controller?
If it is real, I am really happy that I managed to get it for £14.99.

Also check the top of the box if it's light blue it's fake if it's blackish blue it's real
