I really thought all 3 of my controllers were fake. Every video that I have seen so far about to tell what is real and what is fake by clicking the analog sticks. Problem is that they all sound different. Now I know I have all real controllers. Thanks!

Also check the top of the box if it's light blue it's fake if it's blackish blue it's real

Huh. I bought a seemingly new PS3 controller off Ebay for £15. I expected it to be fake, because its so cheap but apparently everything seems legit, only the battery is covered in blue foil but it's in the same spot and everything. It connects well the analogs aren't bad (Except that they're not flat, but that's a PS3 thing). It works fine as well. I'm very happy with it

I got a fake! No wonder it would not work on my pi. It says wansan or something for the controller name when pluged in. I guess I could just use it as a paper weight. bar code number 711719805225

Another thing I've noticed is that the fake ones have more of a mat finish whereas the real ones are more gloss. In other words the real ones are much shiner when you hold them against a light. I've also noticed two stickers that generally appear on the fake ones. One is an A1 model and has N1158 in the middle. The other just has lots of information on and talks about complying with Canadian standards. I've also noticed that you can actually buy these two stickers from shady sellers, bit of a giveaway! Any new controller on ebay now with be fake for sure.

It pisses me off how many fake ones there are, I'm trying to find a legit one so I can play some old ps3 games to build up my trophies but games that require aiming are impossible because the analog sticks on fake controllers are completely stiff and suck dick.

Phew! I thought my controller was fake but I found out it’s real

2019 update, the fakes have removed the indicators as shown in the video as they have updated the controller overtime. The only real way to tell is by opening the PS3 controller, or by moving and clicking the joysticks. Joysticks are super hard to push and sound really loud when clicked.

So I bought this new one the other day and it literally feels soooooooo different compared to my broken one and literally everything about it is just straight up garbage because when I play call of duty and press the sprint button I literally have to press it hard not like a light press that you usually get when you get your first ps3 or some shit but like it’s a hard push like if I pushed it even harder it might’ve broke that’s how hard I push it that’s what she said btw but other then that I literally waisted 60 bucks on this and I watched this video and it helped me figure out how to spot fake ones thanks man you’ve earned a sub.

mine is a third party controller but it's exactly like the original but orange, although it did have drift after a few months

What is the givaway at 1:10 where you only see them from the top? Only thing that I notice is that the analog sticks are at an odd angle on the fake one, and maybe the color on the triangle might be less green (unless that's caused by the lighting). Trying to find a couple of decent pre-owned/used ones for some DIY controller mod projects and new ones cost too much to experiment on with my low-tech soldering skills lol. And I've never had any luck with legitimate 3rd party (like madcatz) controllers lasting more than a couple of months, so I can only imagine that an actual fake (a real fake? haha) is going to even worse. Unfortunately a fair amount of the used controllers on ebay are only pictured from the top.

Just bought one off eBay from a USA seller, listed as official etc... noticed on the back the font for SONY is incorrect, and says "Sony Computer Ectertainment Inc." on it, not even spelled correctly. Oddly, I am in Canada, and the sticker says compliant with Canadian code etc... though reading that I noticed digital was spelled digigit, and apparatus is alapparatus. Annoyed because won't connect via bluetooth and came in the box you see in stores.

And one thing to say. The Sixaxis feature in the fake Controller don't work correctly. I tried play Heavy Rain with a a fake controller (at that time i don't know that was a fake, but now i'm very sure), and the sixaxis features don't work. And some PS2 games don't work with that controller.
