As he should have. My friends and I in HS were pissed that guy ripped off Queen. If I remember right, Freddie died not long after? V-ice is still is a >>>>>(insert sophomoric reference here).
Under Pressure is absolute genius, because they created this song more or less accidential. David was invited to the studio where Queen was recording that day, and later on they had a couple of drinks together. John Deacon almost created this song by accident and forgot about it shortly after. Luckily for all of them (and us) Brian May remembered the bass rhythm John made, and so they created this masterpiece.
What's so beautiful about this is Freddie cries out "why can't we give love one more chance?" and David actually launches into a thoughtful explanation about how we would need to become completely different people to love everyone.
@@AKCarfan Yeah, let's go ahead and get religious on this. Not many people are willing to truly be Christ-like, although they sure talk about it a lot. Freddie and David elucidated exactly what that entails, and what the costs are in doing that. This song is more deeply Christian than any song in the "Christian music" category.

"Under Pressure" was written by John Deacon, Queen's bassist. It was published in 1981. Vanilla Ice stole the bass riff in 1983. After the threat of a lawsuit, Vanilla Ice paid $4 million for the publishing rights.
They never performed this live together. The footage of David is from Freddie's tribute concert in 92 and the footage of Freddie is from Wembley in 86. You should check out Queen live, they're alot better that way.
I disagree it was "better". I really like them both. In fact I like the David Bowie/Annie Lennox concert from which the footage was taken for the mix. All 3 are great for different reasons. I have watched all 3 back to back to back several times and jsut really enjoy the differences they bring.
That they were able to take two different performances in different times and seemlessly meld them together is a testament to just how good both Bowie and Freddie Mercury are as performers. If you didn't know and were just listening to the song you would think they were doing this live together. And quite frankly even though I have heard all versions of this song , this quite simply is the best one out there.
You should watch the remaining Queen members perform this live with David Bowie and Annie Lennox filling in Freddie's part. After Freddie died they did a tribute show for him. You can see how emotional David and Annie are during the whole number. It is very powerful.
On top of that, there's also a spectacular version that David did live in the 90s with his bassist Gail Ann Dorsey singing Freddie's parts while also playing the signature bassline. That's the one I hold closest to my heart. ruclips.net/video/yTHUPvL9ghY/видео.html

The lead in of this song is ICONIC! My daughter lives away from home and I only get to see her a couple times a year. Seeing you enjoying music brings me a little bit of that feeling and helps with me missing her. So, thank you for that! 💜 (purple hearts are her favorite)
Great seeing your initial hunch about this being the “original” source that Vanilla Ice ripped off (without permission I might add). Always made my blood boil that he did that and basically got away with it (except for being sued). All that aside, there is no denying that this song is just brilliant! This was fun
Queen is such a fluid band, they truly did whatever they wanted musically. A couple of years ago I was putting some furniture together and I put on a Queen playlist, and my wife was surprised at how many of their songs they did, with different sounds in each, that she didn't know they did.

I have a vinyl album collection of just under 600. Albums from music starting as early as the 40s and 50s then starting to pick up steam in the mid 60s, and hundreds from the 70s. It starts to slow down again in the 80s and on, but I discovered a young lady from Norway about 6 years ago. She entered Norway's Got Talent at the age of 7, and just after turning 8 won it all. Republic Records signed her at 14 to her families demands, and now that she is out of school she is picking up again. She is now 16 and she brings a lot of older classics back to life with a new interpretation. It is my opinion that she will make her place in the annals of music history as one of the all time greats. I have 3, no 4 playlists of her on my RUclips page. When he realized it’d be cheaper than the lawsuit, Vanilla Ice bought the rights to Under Pressure. So now, anytime it plays on the radio or someone streams it, he gets the royalties. I’m not sure what Queen gets if anything however.
@JessieKnecht Yes, Vanilla Ice went around saying that, probably to make himself look good. However, the Interviewer checked out Ice’s statement. I quote: “A spokesman for Queen tells Ultimate Classic Rock that Vanilla Ice’s statement is incorrect. A statement was made whereby the publishing in the song was shared”.
Queen and David Bowie retained ownership of “Under Pressure” and that have been added as co-writers of “Ice, Ice Baby” which means they earn royalties every time someone buys a copy of “Ice, Ice Baby”.
Vanilla Ice had used the opening sample but, tried to say he changed it enough to make it his. He was sued and lost the lawsuit. He was required to add Queen and David Bowie as Song writers for Ice Ice Baby.
The original was a collaboration of David Bowie and Queen. But they never actually got to collaborate in person. David has credits for "Under Pressure" along with Queen. Vanilla Ice paid $4,000,000 for publishing rights after some negotiations with Queen. This video you have is a compilation of performances by both Queen and David Bowie performing with Queen after Freddie's death.
Under pressure was co-written by David Bowie and Queen. I believe that performance was from Live Aid, at Wembley Stadium in England and it was shown all over the world live in 1985.
Mercury is in the same stadium (Wembley) as the Live Aid performance, but a year later. Bowie's performance is from the Freddie Mercury tribute concert, where Mercury's part was sung by Annie Lennox.
This is such an amazing song, everyone once in a while I just need to hear "Love dares you to care for the people on the edge of the night, and Love dares you to change our way of caring about ourselves" and remember that Love Wins.
I was so lucky to haven grown up during this era. I didn't fully get it til a few years ago........how amazing and important those years were for ALL music It's so great to see you love the song so much. 🤘
It was mid-to-late 80's (87?) - the height of the AIDS crisis. This song is about caring for each other, because laws, at the time, often prevented a gay's lover from visiting them in the ICU ("family(even if they hate you)" only), and so many were dying alone or surrounded by people who hated them. The AIDS victim would be taken from all they love and processed by the medical and legal communities. But they didn't limit the song to that. Such shunnings and discriminations for any of a thousand reasons have been part of the human condition since - well -humans. We must redefine Love to be broader, and try again, or we will lose our humanity.
Baby, this is song is iconic and my favorite because Freddie was away from the band and recorded it without Queen, but always had Queen in mind. Freddie was a torn soul and this is a manifestation of what he could do without Queen but never divorcing them.
Yes, the movie people moved timelines around and “invented” some things to add drama and emotion. Queen never broke up. John left performing some years after Freddie passed because it was too much for him to carry on without Freddie. I do know that he watched the movie with his family and reportedly enjoyed it.
The song was released in 1981. Queen were recording in Switzerland, and David had lived there at the time, popped in the studio to visit, and was invited to have guest vocals on a song called Cool Cat. He didn't like that contribution and asked if they could write a new song, so they did together. David and Freddie recorded their vocals blindly from each other without listening to the other part and then pieced them together to create the song. John Deacon forgot the bassline when they all went to lunch, but their drummer Roger Taylor remembered it. It's pure brilliance.
Excellent choice, I was at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert in 92, that was Bowie and Annie gorgeous lennox, I still get a tingle when I hear this amazing tune.
Bass player John Deacon came up with the now famous riff and the song was built from this. Bowie just happened to come into the studio and became involved with the writing of the song.
You should check out Queen at Live Aid, many legendary bands performed at this huge multinational charity show that was broadcast to most of the world, and Queen straight up steals the show.
Re: Ice Ice Baby - Vanilla Ice initially sampled the bassline without securing permission from or even crediting Queen/Bowie. He was eventually forced (after Queen/Bowie's reps threatened to sue him) to credit them & pay a portion of Ice Ice Baby's royalties as compensation (this is why you now always see credit given to the original writers when works are sampled in music)
Freddie was easily one of if not THE best male voice in rock and roll history. Loving this Queen roll you are on. One of the truly most iconic rock bands in history. I knew you were recognize the bass riff as soon as it started I was watching to see your reaction/realization. Cute story - about 20 years ago I'm at a sporting even with two of my best buds - i was in the middle. One is a musician and lover of classic rock (same as me). During a lull in the even they started playing this song. I Whispered to musician buddy 'How many idiots here think this is Vanilla Ice'. 5 seconds later, my other bud leans to me and asks "Why are they playing vanilla ice?" drop mic. we lost it.
Queen is music for every moment in your life and with the other unique voice from GB, David Bowie together with Freddie Mercury it's a wonderful combo. The performance you saw, was from the tribute concert in 92 and they played a record from Freddie to sing it as a last duet like they did 86 in Wembley.
Ok now that you are feelin' Queen's music you should check out the movie 'Bohemian Rhapsody' so you can see the journey they took to become as great as they were.
my goodness girl. Your big eyed huge smile head bobbing enthusiasm is so daaam infectious! You are a so fun to watch and hang out with on these things. This is one of my favorite top 3 by Queen and thank you for doing so. Seeing someone so youthful experiencing this and falling in love with it so much is so endearing. I enjoyed it for the first time again vicariously through you and it made me emotional - knowing these two legends are gone but their legacy lives one through music lovers such as you and me. you done a lot of upbeat stuff by Queen so far - two more I can think of that are fantastic: Radio Ga-Ga, and It's a Kind of Magic. BUT for something completely different and haunting 'Who Wants to Live Forever" and 'Show Must Go On" The former is my personal #1 favorite and makes me so overwhelmed with feels every time I hear it. i know you are deeply moved by many of the songs you've heard on this channel (I've seen most of your stuff by now). I believe you would deeply enjoy and love that song (both really),.
if you like this you should check out Queen & Annie Lennox & David Bowie Under Pressure (It’s one of the absolute best live performances i’ve ever seen) true magic caught on film for those that never seen it check it out it’s so beautiful but, also a little heartbreaking at the same time
Now you should check out David Bowie; Starman, Young Americans, Fame, Heroes, Modern Love, Let’s Dance, Blue Jean to name a few of his hits. He did a lot of experimental music, art pop and some things that hit the mainstream. Very much like Queen.
This really was the Superior version of Under Pressure; Freddy and David just.... YEAH!!! My problem with hearing this version was just just don't want it to end because it so great!!!
If or when you watch Queen's Live Aid performance it's interesting to know that David Bowie had to follow their legendary performance and asked Freddie how the hell he was going to follow that Freddie said to him I killed it. By the way this song was released in 1981
What's also interesting to know is, even with that worry, David cut the songs Fascination, China Girl, Loving the Alien, and Five Years from his set so he could introduce a video clip for famine relief. He was one of the biggest artists in the entire world and chose to have a short set so he could raise awareness for the issue Live Aid represented. None classier than David Bowie.

Baby, this is song is iconic and my favorite because Freddie was away from the band and recorded it without Queen, but always had Queen in mind. Freddie was a torn soul and this is a manifestation of what he could do without Queen but never divorcing them.
What? The band was together in Montreaux and Roger invited David Bowie to come. That’s when they came up with Under Pressure.
Yes, the movie people moved timelines around and “invented” some things to add drama and emotion. Queen never broke up. John left performing some years after Freddie passed because it was too much for him to carry on without Freddie. I do know that he watched the movie with his family and reportedly enjoyed it.
Very cute to see u responding and dancing to this song!
Although they tell the story that Bowie was listening at the door to what Freddie did and didn't tell them straight away 🤣
A true Queen fan, would watch Queen live aid act!!
Excellent choice, I was at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert in 92, that was Bowie and Annie gorgeous lennox, I still get a tingle when I hear this amazing tune.
This song is timeless. Every time you listen to it, it will just get better & better.
Under Pressure was released in 1981 and Ice Ice Baby was released in 1990
Bass player John Deacon came up with the now famous riff and the song was built from this. Bowie just happened to come into the studio and became involved with the writing of the song.
When they recorded this for the album, Freddie gave David the lyrics and said sing it how you think it should be done. Thats why it worked so well.
You should check out Queen at Live Aid, many legendary bands performed at this huge multinational charity show that was broadcast to most of the world, and Queen straight up steals the show.
You need to check out We Are the Champion/We Will Rock you and Killer Queen
Fabulous. My two favorites of all time. Freddie and David ✌🏻
Lovely review. Try Bowie's number one hits Fame or Let's Dance next!
I believe you would deeply enjoy and love that song (both really),.
your finger snapping is sooo darn cute Shiloh :)
if you like this you should check out Queen & Annie Lennox & David Bowie Under Pressure (It’s one of the absolute best live performances i’ve ever seen) true magic caught on film for those that never seen it check it out it’s so beautiful but, also a little heartbreaking at the same time
Now you should check out David Bowie; Starman, Young Americans, Fame, Heroes, Modern Love, Let’s Dance, Blue Jean to name a few of his hits. He did a lot of experimental music, art pop and some things that hit the mainstream. Very much like Queen.
Check out their song "You're my best friend "
This really was the Superior version of Under Pressure; Freddy and David just.... YEAH!!! My problem with hearing this version was just just don't want it to end because it so great!!!
If I'm not mistaken, this is from his concert at Wembly in England. Watch the entire Wembly concert sometime; most of Queen's greats there.
@@chrismeadows4216 Totally agree 3 of my friends and myself split the pay per view costs and watched both shows all day and night. I saw Bowie in 83 Let's Dance tour
@@paulobrien9572 Incredible 😏
Your whole up beat vibe is dope. You gained a subscriber in me... keep up the radiant energy and fun reactions that make people smile...
There's a video showing the creative process with Queen & Bowie. Also the Freddie memorial concert with Bowie & Annie Lennox.
Love your insights & your expressive face, especially that beautiful smile.
Shine on silver girl!
This song gives me chills. And I don't know why.
Get it girl😂💜💜Some of the best music ever!! Hugs
I love this song. Great artists and nice reaction too.
