A little part of the reason I loved Ninth House so much was that I lived in New Haven for 25 years and reading about all the buildings I had walked by for years really brought it to life for me!
This was so amazing! I just stayed up until 3 am last night to finish this book, and I LOVED it! Thank you for taking the time to do this. There are so many places that I've read about in books that I am dying to go too. Walking through New Haven is right up there on my list with walking through the French Quarter in New Orleans with my Anne Rice books clutched to my chest. Thank you for posting this!
This is such a unique video! It must’ve been awesome to experience this in person. I’m currently doing my reread of NH so it’s great to see what the buildings actually look like
Wow this is great. It was a fantastic idea of you to do this, especially as people in other countries (like me) will probably never have the opportunity to see this for themselves.
This is so fun! I found the video because you mentioned it on your live/Q&A, and I knew I had to watch it. I did my undergrad at Yale, so seeing all the buildings brings back so many memories (and made Ninth House extra-fun to read)--I will say, the only house I've ever been in is St. Elmo's (for reunion parties), and it's just as much a trash-heap as the book says :)
I'm currently reading NH and I wanted to see if someone already made a NH New Haven's tour. And you did! Thanks! Saved me time to check every place down in google map!
Il Bastone on Orange street, has had it's pitched roofs covered and flattened, with 6 industrial air conditioners along the roof. (Google maps) To cool the attic libraries?
I'm sure it's a great experience for people who have lived in / visited New Haven or have had the extraordinary privilege of attending Yale to imagine the story unfolding in the physical space. As someone who has never had these experiences, I found myself being distracted by Bardugo's descriptions of the campus and architecture. Many, many authors have used the physical setting with great skill to advance interesting plots and indeed make the place a separate character in the story, but sadly this is not the case with Ninth House. Yale interfered a lot with the pacing of the story for me, and I could not understand why the shape of an arch or the light radiating from a glass window onto the pavement outside was AT ALL relevant to an otherwise intriguing plot.

I wonder how much of Ninth House is real.
Still can't believe these places are real haha
