    Frankie Boyle's parents are - like the late great George Carlin's dad - from Donegal here in the north of Ireland. "Boyle" is a common last name here. Frankie has pointed out before that his humour is almost directly opposite to his parents' community growing up in rural Donegal, where people are almost insanely nice and reluctant to insult anyone, often too much so IMHO. We have a very shared culture between here and, particularly Glasgow, in Scotland.

    Glasgow is a divided city and is often described as Belfast light because of its similar religious divide.
    Lots of Irish Catholics emigrated there over the years and lots of the Scots already there who were protestant didn't like it too much, Irish Catholics are generally pro Irish reunification and against Britain, while the British (and NI) protestants are pro British.
    Those with an Irish background tend to support Celtic football team and those of British/protestant background support Rangers.
    Larkhall is a big Rangers area, so much so that even big brands that have green (colours of Celtic and Ireland) in their branding changed their signs in this area so didn't have any green.
    Frankie Boyle is of Irish heritage so probably why there's so many who there booing someone from Larkhall.
    His background is probably a reason for his mocking of the British army (if you know about what they dod in Ireland) and for his pro Palestine views (although these are far more common for most in Britain than America).

  • @coot1925
    @coot1925 Месяц назад +2

    It's not reginal, everyone in the British isles is like this,
    General rule of thumb is this:- If a Brit is being over polite to you it's because they don't feel comfortable with you. If a Brit starts roasting you & taking the piss out of you it's because they trust you.
    There are exceptions. If The Brit looks & sounds angry whilst doing this it's probably best that you leave.

    Its the whole country, in terms of verbal abuse we are all brought up with it and are very much used to it. You get the shit ripped out of you at every turn, you just take it and give it back as best you can, if you take it badly, they will NEVER stop.

      Watching Scots teenagers do banter is really interesting. Seems to a great back and forth game between two people, with their mates looking on but not interrupting, observing how clever, sharp, outrageous and fast the responses are. It's pretty funny to watch. It's a kind of game. The winner is the one with the best comebacks - maybe finally with one that cracks up their 'opponant' with laughter,. Losing your temper or starting a brawl as a result of banter directed at you is definitely a sign you have lost the game and lost face in front of your mates. But it's usually very good natured, and people usually accept defeat with good grace and no hard feelings. A round of general laughter from all is the best ending.

    • @LaidbackMatt_theeOG
      @LaidbackMatt_theeOG Месяц назад

      True story, starts the moment you're old enough to walk the street, then through school and ending up as an adult in the pub...that's where the best cracks are had! Old guys, many years experience, known the street for years and have a comeback for anything you've got! I love Scotland, there's no place on earth that is more real, in your face, with a smile and jokes all round, some of which can touch a nerve, but they're true and funny AF. It's up to you to respond and have a laugh

    You're in a room with a lot of plain walls - it makes the audio a bit "bouncy"/echo-y, some stuff on the walls would help a bit - foam's perfect, but fabric's good. There's also some kinda electric/electronic static too.
    Aside from that, enjoy your comedy reactions, good stuff.
    You got to understand about us Brits - that friendly - roast your friends humour is how we start. That's just normal talkling to a new person kinda vibe. Frankie's savage, but it's a comedy show and we definitely expect it. I've never been to a good comedy show that hasn't had audience interaction. I've seen some bad comedy shows and it's like the person's doing their class show and tell thing and it sucks. We want to see the quick wite, the dude that can come up with stuff on the spot. Frankie let's slip in this - the girl with the eyebrows - "I was watching you from the wings", so he's looked out at the audience whilst they're waiting and had some material ready to go - still impressive and it's cool how he personalises stuff. I imagine the dude from the blood factory had some good jokes when he went back to work after this.

    Who would I least want to say something to. See Jimmy Carr and Franke Boyle, they might go the hardest, but it's part of the gig. It's part of the banter.
    But when Bill Burr went after that women who shouted out something like "tell him right" or something, that was funny but kind of intimidating. Thing is, American comedians don't often do crowd banter, so when someone says something, it almost comes off like they take it personally. Where as Jimmy Carr has jokes at the ready for it, he enjoys it. If you're funny enough he'd give you credit for that.
