1952 Ferrari barnfind + vintage race cars

- Besides a glorious 1952 Ferrari 166MM Vignale barnfind the same barn (1940s hangar) also contains a cluster of vintage race and road cars dating from 1920 to the 1960s. Jonny knew this one would be well worth wearing his BFF for (Barn Find Fleece), and access to this very private place was granted by a chap who owned the yellow Ferrari 250 Restomod tribute that Jonny filmed last summer. It's a fairly long film, but do watch until the end for the whole story on this stunning 1952 Vignale, that has been a barnfind before back in the 1960s!
Thanks for stopping by The Late Brake Show.
The barn contents in order of appearance:
Berkeley SE492 1959 x 2
Bristol 403 1953
Bristol 406 1960
Morgan +4 DHC 1959
Morgan +4 2 seater 1957
Morgan MX2 Super Sport 1933
Frontenac-Ford 1926
Riley Clifford Special Autovia V8 1934/7
Lancia Flaminia Pininfarina Coupe 1963
Ferrari 166 Mille Miglia Vignale Berlinetta Body 1952 to convert to Ferrari 225S 1952
TVR Tuscan V8 289 LWB conversion from Vixen S4 1972

I've been watching RUclips pretty avidly for nearly 15 years; I watch mostly, science, engineering and motoring videos.
This was honestly one of the most enjoyable videos I've ever seen. The chemistry between you two, the shared passion and enthusiasm was magic. Thank you SO much for allowing us to view your epic collection.
Many thanks for watching. I'm really pleased you enjoyed the story.

@@TheLateBrakeShow That is an absolute bonkers barn, an epic owner with a lot of historic cars.. tanks for sharing this clip experience.. ;0)
Not to mention that 1952 Ferrari is quite possibly the most beautifully shaped car I've ever seen.
What a treat this show is, great production, the guest is allowed to talk and answer thoughtful questions, no silly overpowering soundtrack , artful camera work , bravo!!

Oh to be born into money
Often people who are still talk of working hard and getting where they are still.
Yeah, but he is not up himself or boasting in any way.
@@peterriggall8409 I feel part of this went over your head. The very fact that he isn't boasting (ie. It was completely normal to him, and thus something that isn't boast worthy) is so far removed from most people is part of the point.

Jeeez there's some rare stuff in that barn
@@qlus I mean, he isn't wrong is he? Most of those cars are going to rot away in a barn and never be sorted.
That Alfa 6C.
OMG. Pure art. Even as it is sitting there.
Stunning…..
What is sad is that the vast majority of these cars will never be restored, at least by the present owner. Worse case is vandals get in there and wreck the cars.
Thank Will for sharing your lifetime and not being overly precious about everything...great episode
This episode is just AMAZING!
THAT 1940 ALFA!!!!!
It's up there with Delahayes, Cords, Dusenbergs and Auburns as one of THE MOST beautiful cars ever.
This whole episode was worth it just for that!!!!
Kudos Johnny!! You knocked it out the park!

Thanks for this Johnny. What an absolute character. His dad had 3 planes at the bottom of the garden and now he has a vintage Ferrari and an Alfa in his barn. Legend absolute bloody legend. Can we see the rest of the cars.
What a magnificent collection. May he live long and finish them all!

Jonny you didn't even mention the Charger at all? Amazing collection of cars, just incredible, Rj in Oz
Doesn't he own one already? Probably why he skipped over it. Pity!
Too obvious....
Someone else asked that didn't belong to the chap so wasn't covered
The Dodge belongs to Pete, we are going to give the Dodge it's own video, it's close to being one of the next projects so shouldn't be long
I thought the same thing when I saw the Charger. How could you, at least, not mention "I've got one?" Surprised.
Yes, that is a looker.
And what a head full of knowledge (he should record and not lose it).
Thank you Jonnie.
Stumbled upon this, just like a barn find - and what a total joy this has been. Thanks so much, Jonny and Will, for a terrific half hour's joy!
I really hope Will gets to see these projects through, he has some amazing cars and a fantastic balance of historical sympathy and modification.
This is one of the most enjoyable videos on RUclips. Could listen to the two of you chatting for hours, Will seems like such an interesting guy. So many truly incredible cars sat in an old barn/hanger with properly special history. Thank you for for sharing this!
What an amazing collection of cars, I hope Will has a team of mechanics to help him get all those finished, seems like a life times work to get those all done by just one man, I hope he succeeds, that Vignale Ferrari is just beautiful.
One thing is certain, in another 30-50 years there won't be blokes talking about barn finds such as a Toyota Prius or Nissan Leaf, we've seen the best of the motoring years I feel, it's all down hill from now.
What I like is the pace; he's there for the prize, the Ferrari, but he takes his time getting to it. Superb content.
Definitely a whole bunch of OMG moments in that barn and surrounding!!!!!!!!! That Ferarri is going to look spectacular once the restoration is ready for viewing!
I could spend hours and hours and hours........admiring and cleaning all of those 👍🏻😂
This was amazing. Will is such a character as are his cars.

This is the reason I'm subscribed to this channel, I absolutely love these barn find videos. No disrespect to Jonny's other content, but the electric stuff bores me to death. These barn finds make my day.
But more interesting as we meet the EV era. Are classic cars the new historical steam era.

Met a guy in Cali at a winery, had a bunch of Porsche like this, even a speedster, all needed major work but impressive to look at, same thing, all just rotting away in a barn but some cars are so far gone they are not really restored, just replaced with a small bit to to get a VIN. Another great video and it's hard to imagine all the stuff out there in barns. Bought a pre-war skip tooth on a trip to Kansas once, was a kids grandmas bike, have a vette in the garage too, sold the bike to a museum that had WWII planes so felt proud. Keep hunting!
Thank you so much for the excitement of discovering unusual vehicles, and taking the time to discuss several of them. It’s a pleasure to watch and learn about marques I know little or nothing of. This barn seems to be full of the most individual and unique creatures. I’d love to have a bigger collection of cars with more diversity. Very grateful for everyone’s desire to share this passion.
The most endearingly, fascinating car programe I have seen. Thank you.
Lancia and Aston Martin Cars are my all time favourites. Especially Lancia for Sporting Heritage, Innervation and engineering.
Not to be fatalistic, but one of my favorite parts is the impermanence of this incredible automotive history. When this lovely man passes sadly, so too may a wealth of knowledge and long held memories. I hope more like him share their experience and learned histories, to pass the torch onward, as these incredible machines become more and more rare/decayed. This is a lesson in appreciating and sharing what we have while we can enjoy that. While vital info to the projects can be shared if pertinent folks care, please do! People care! Enjoy what you can on this Earth and realize that artifacts are all around us with the right context, junk is treasure to some and treasure is junk to others. It’s about perspective. Thank you for sharing this dream “barn find”! I wish the best to your channel’s success and to that of this esteemed collection.
This is the best. I’ve never seen any of these vehicles. Will , I could listen to him all day. Superb vid well done.
That door handle looked ultra modern. Lovely car.
Lovely collection, and what a lovely chap. Well done Sir.
Thanks Will and Jonny for sharing these wonderful cars.
I'm glad there are so many RUclips car channels that are exposing these neglected relics worldwide. Perhaps as a result of the publicity some very tenacious collectors wind up harassing the hoarders enough to finally get them to sell the cars before they rot away.
Another cracking video Jonny, production quality just gets better & better.
Wow.. What a cool interesting guy William is. And a fabulous collection that we've only seen part of 👏👏👏
Great car collection and what an interesting person who owns them. He is the kind of person we should be happy bought these cars and did not let them die. That Ferrari must be very valuable when finished properly.
OMG give the Ferrari some love! Its amazing ;-) Wow...Did I say Wow
Great episode. I used to search for and provide parts for these early Ferraris and the history/mystique of these cars really draws you in. Jonny , you should make it out to Villa D'Este , Amelia Island , Pebble Beach etc... and see some of these cars after a full restoration.
Loving the Bar find series Jonny keep it up 👏👏
Bar find? Now there's an idea.
Oops autocorrect
Will is a proper old school racing gentleman, the definition of a dieing breed. You should definitely do more with him, the enthusiasm you 2 share is infectious.
Quite late to this party but wow, this is the just the best. What a great guy and such a genuine enthusiast. Mad movie! Love it!
Absolutely 'Flippin' amazing. Thanks Jonny.
Absolutely Amazing, just brilliant 👍👍👍👍
That Ferrari is something very special 👌
It's a lovely thing, but it isn't a Ferrari.
It's an aftermarket body that was put onto a Ferrari chassis by people other than the factory.
It had no real known race history with the vignale body and now contains nothing at all from the real car.
All that said I'm very happy It's been saved and is going to be fitted out with a copy of its original chassis and a proper Colombo V12, just so long as no one tries to pass it off as the real deal
Wow this is a barnfind Museum this guy's great his knowledge is wonderful can't wait to see some of these come alive. Jonny inventing the word barnfindy, brilliant content as ever👏👍 this guy is one of those last breeds where he doesn't care if it's light and fast but the brakes don't work that well, Goodwood Brooklands warrior
Love that the tvr has a tarpaulin over it yet the priceless ferrari is left for the birds to poo over.
Great guy great video.
Yeah but the tvr is all wood so needs different environmental control?
Ha ha lmao 🤣
Another excellent vid, Jonny, and what a find. Love stuff like this, with a passionate owner and a story for every car. And what a great eclectic collection it is 😀
Wow, what an amazing episode this was! Absolutely loving these, and it doesn't get better than a bunch of old, rare and niche cars from the past tucked away in an unsuspecting barn!
Lovely to see a nice pair of Bristols
Brings back memories , my dad restored Berkeleys many happy days going to motor shows inches of the ground. He managed to convert a damaged one to mini power, completely bonkers. We took one to the Brighton classic car show and due to the long wait to get out the exhibition centre on the second floor. We wheeled the three wheeler into the goods lift and lifted the back up to fit it in and beat the queue. Those SE492's were pretty rare back when I were a lad what a find.
Amazing collection of beautiful cars and so well captured. The cinematic photography is a credit to you and your team.
A very knowledgeable man with a lust for perfect lines and power ( not you btw Johnny )👏👏👏
Dan you are the master of erudite and educated utterances. ( Not you Barnes🤪😂)
All sadly left to rot away..
Sell to someone that will give these cars the respect they deserve. Not a brain dead collector? That let's them rust away.. because they can brag about collection.. it isn't a car collection. It is classic car murder.
@@graemejohnson9025 We had so much content we had to cut a bit off that explains this is not the case. Never mind the cars - this channel is a nice find. Always loved your presenting Jonny.
Just to expand on the racing Ferrari right hand drive point and Jonny's comment re Italian driving; Italy drove on the left in the early years and Lancia continued to make its cars in right hand drive for the Italian market right up until the early 1950's.
Martin, thanks for this info. I had no idea.
I may be wrong, but older Italians would order right hand drive cars for as long as they could, even though traffic had long gone left hand drive.
In addition to what Will said in the video, italian race cars continued to be RHD for a while because the clockwise oval tracks (right turns only) had no real pit area that was physically separated from the track by a barrier: cars would keep to the right on one of the straights, and with RHD cars drivers could get in and out of the car away from traffic rather than towards the speeding cars
Another reason was it was deemed safer to be driving on the same side as the kerb when in deep fog which most of northern Italy suffers from in winter
@@musiccylinderK6 I think that was the reason that the Ford GT40 was RHD - just to make it safer in the pit area at Le Mans
I've now got an angel of the centrefold earworm! "Naah- nah- na- nah- na- naah!"
A big thank you, not only to you Jonny for the very well presented and produced content, but also to Will for being so generous with his reveal after reveal of very unusual interesting bits of auto history. Hope to see the cars back to life soon, would be great to see a follow up some.

Well done and good effort.
Never make this into a proper TV show as it would get ruined by production and commercialism. You tube has its bad points, but this show is an example of why you tube can also be great.
