There is no film from college that says Trubisky was better than Watson. Any scout who thought that should have been fired.

The scouts would just rather take a white guy who went 8-5 at a basketball school than a black guy who beat Alabama in the national championship game. Bears weren't ready to have a black qb as the face of the franchise

@@jackturner4558 what you saying doesn't make since. Watson had already recovered from thst ACL. He then lead Clemson to 2 back to back National championship appearances. And winning one. His record in college, after the ACL was 32-5. After the ACL at Clemson he had 11,000 passing yards, 90 touchdowns. And a National championship. It was stupid to take Trubisky then, and it's stupid when we look back at it now.

Best decision ever. I took the bears to the playoffs last year. And I'm surviving under IMMENSE scrutiny this year. To be fair it's just too much and it's comical really. What evidence do you have that Mitch should be the top rated? Man had 1 season in College playing QB since high school and he came from a non football school. So who and how did anyone have him rated at 89 and should have been the #1 pick? Explain how they would come to that conclusion especially over Watson and his accomplishments and his 2 National Title games and a National Title over Alabama? How does Mitch compare to that playing weaker competition from a non football school with 1 year get rated higher? Something is extremely fishy.

You see that often in drafts in many sports. People draft on potential over production. Decision makers and scouts assume that people who haven't played as much but show "flashes of brilliance" will continue to improve. They also assume a lot that some people are closer to a ceiling and may not transfer well to the next level of competition. Sometimes you look like a genius, and sometimes an idiot. We all know which way this one is leaning so far :/
Any front office who watched game film on trubisky and had the audacity to say he was the top QB in the draft should be fired and banned from any future front office jobs.

What's the point of having scouts if you make your picks off of projections? Might as well just fire scouts and let ESPN, CBS, and Fox analyst draft players for all 32 teams since they know so much.

What game tapes did they look at, they couldn't have checked his stats because north Carolina actually regressed when he became the starter. I VIVIDLY remember no one being that high on Mahomes, so this debate is built purely on hindsight and therefore pointless. The Trubisky/WATSON debate is more interesting because I honestly think Trubisky got the better look because he’s white and Watson is black. Period. There’s still a stereotype with black QBs.
I called Mahomes being good and I called Lamar Jackson but never knew they were MVP talent. And I was even living in Trubisky's home town and knew he wouldn't be that great.
This just goes to show you that the NFL scouts need to do a better job of you throw on the college tape you can tell Mitch isn’t better than Watson or Mahomes in no way

I must be a prodigy because I watched about three Texas tech games and knew that Mahomes was different. Dude had that IT factor and his confidence was off the wall. Plus his arm talent was ridiculous. I knew he would be good in the NFL. I had know idea my favorite team the Chiefs would draft him though. I was so hyped on draft night because I knew we had just got a monster.
Imagine all the Tech folks like myself who watched him as a starter for 2.5 years and then the media "experts" tell us that he's gonna be a 3rd round pick? I couldn't believe that. A little bit of faith in the intelligence of humanity was restored when the Chiefs drafted him in the Top 10 of the first round.

Just about all QBs coming out of that system suck. Plenty of other guys like Mahomes in college who failed miserably in the NFL. I think Mahomes who is insanely talented got lucky having Reid as his coach
The bears were coming off paying a big arm guy like cutler so it made sense they would be scared to draft a big arm guy who didn’t win in college. Watson was more of a better choice.
@@rhdtv2002 Yeah there were other guys who produced in that system, but Mahomes had the insane production PLUS 1st round physical ability. Also the pedigree of having a professional baseball player for a father, so he grew up around athletes and knew how to work and prepare himself. Everyone always talks about the physical attributes of Mahomes, but he has all the mental traits you want in a franchise QB as well. He's the total package, would be good in any system.

@@cardi919 In 2017 yes I would've made the same choice. All the mock drafts and talent evaluaters had Mitch has the #1 QB. You don't understand how the draft process works if you thought Mahomes and Watson were better QB prospects.
Ive looked at scouting reports from 2017, and the majority had the order of QB’s at:
1. Trubisky
2. Watson
3. Mahomes
Nobody expected Mahomes to turn into what he is today. Who he actually was compared to a lot in these reports was jay cutler, a gunslinger who made too many mistakes but when he was hot he was HOT. Bears weren’t gonna take that risk.
Watson going number one at QB was an argument many people did make, and was compelling. However, majority said trubisky was better and had a higher floor than Watson.
Scouting report was Bias.. just stop it.
Trubisky getting the blame for his #2 pick is fairly absurd, the kid is clearly a starting QB he's not a hall of fame QB but he was a top ten player in that draft, he was likely the best of the top five that was drafted that year. Every QB is either the best or worst ever, average does not exist in the media
Back up quarterback at the least is what Trubisky is.

It's not really a a fair comparison between the 3. Mahomes ended up in a perfect situation, and Deshaun has had way more stability than Mitch. Mitch was super raw out of college and the bears were dysfunctional when he was drafted. That skews players developments

In the 1983 draft KC passed on Jim Kelly and Dan Marino and pick Todd Blackledge, QB from Penn State, with the 7th overall pick. Patrick Mahomes is the first QB they've drafted in the first round since then.
Everyone says they never knew how good trubisky was, but if you watch gruden's qb camp, he shows tape of Patrick mahomes making passes that only Brett Favre could make. Throwing bombs down the field across his body without even having to set his feet

Most of those “scouts” must have been smoking crack. Mitch couldn’t even start over a guy who isn’t even in the league at UNC. Rode the bench til his last year. I could see missing Pat but D Wat did everything including dominating Bama twice. This is just another example of every year when it’s nothing but black QBs near the top they reach to find a white(what they think can be a prototype) quarterback. Not Mitch fault. But it is what it is.
Darnold is another one
I remember this draft, the Jets were the likely landing spot for Watson if Browns/Bears didnt take him. Browns leaking Trubisky was a ploy for someone to take him and then Jets get Watson so they could get Mahomes. They didn't expect someone to trade up for Mahomes. I'm sure they tried to trade up and get him but how the board fell nobody really moved out of their slots. Had the Jets taken Watson over Adams a safety (lol) we might be having an entire different conversation. KC didnt even give up much to the Bills (who also needed a qb at the time, with Watson on the Board too) Some of the GMs are just really really bad. Example, Lions in a complete rebuild tear down had pick 3 and their choice of Tua or Herbert with an aging Stafford and said lets get the corner and see if that helps. If you dont have a qb, you'll never contend in the NFL.
Trubiski should call Todd blackledge! He might have some good advice for him.

It is Trubisky's fault that he was drafted before Mahomes and Watson. The whole pre-draft process is about pumping up your draft stock and Team Trubisky was successful in making the Bears (and other teams) fall in love with him. And I'm sure that he loved getting paid like the No. 2 pick in the draft.

Watson was GREAT with CLEMSON, against BAMA, I did not even know of Mitch Trubisky until channels like YOURSELVES started shoving him down my throat. I don't mind people who had Mayfield over Jackson because Mayfield was a stud for 3 years with the Sooners but Mitch over DW4 was and still is a head scratcher.
Jackson should've won the Heisman twice but they gave it to Mayfield because they felt he was more marketable.

Yeah I'm skeptical on "most teams" had it ranked with Trubisky as the #1 QB. We keep hearing this. Again none of us are denying some teams (obviously including the Bears) had it ranked this way. But did Schefter talk to 32 teams? 20? 15? What is most teams?
As a die hard Bears fan, we screwed up. I wanted us to draft Watson at #3. The GM needs to be fired because he has set the team back 5 years. We have a great defense and no offensive identity.

Seth Calhoun nah it’s the bears being cheap again, Watson and Mahomes are in store for big paydays and since Mitch isn’t a proven commodity he will be significantly cheaper.
