Amy, this is great! I made a tear ruler with the cutting edge of a used up roll of foil. It works wonderfully but can be very dangerous. This, I think, would be less so. Thanks for this! MK ❤🌞🌵
Another inexpensive and easy technique. I usually just tear with my hands but I can see using a ruler like this would give me better control. I like it! Thank you for sharing.
Hello Dawn :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) I tear a lot with my hands too, but this is much quicker :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Oh thank you for such a great money saving idea. I am just starting journaling and watching videos so I dont have many supplies. They all add up trying to purchase everything. Now I have to go back and watch all your other videos! Thanks again!
Hello Cari :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) I am happy I could help :) If there is anything you see that you would like to purchase but don't want to put out the high cost, just let me know what you are looking for, and I will see if it is something we can make on our own :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Hello Evelyn :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) That is a great idea, thank you for sharing that with us all :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Thank you for this. I might make myself another one. I saw a video of someone who I don’t remember who it was, she had one of those white triangular rulers. I don’t know if they’re something math people or engineers use but she said she scraped it on her fence to make the rough edge. I went to the Goodwill and I found a three pack, a wood one, a plastic one, and one of those white triangular ones. I scraped it on rocks, I scraped it on my retaining wall, everything and I couldn’t get it roughed up enough. I tried chipping bits out with my razor blade knife, I tried a file, finally I turned on my drill press and just held it up to a drill bit and then sort of bumped it in an out against the drill bit, it worked great. I thought holding the triangular one would be easier but it’s not because at some point you get your hand in the way and you can’t do a smooth tear around your hand so I’m going to make one of yours, I think that will be better. Thank you. You can’t have too many tear rulers anyway.
Hello Lyn :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) Thank you for your tips on the tear rulers you made, it is nice of you to share that with us all :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Hey there Amy.... I’ve not been able to watch for a wee while, I’m looking forward to catching up. Thank you for your ideas and videos. They are enjoyable and helpful. I pray that Papa and you are well, please pass on my regards. PS..... the second ad on this video about the luggage is very interested, I enjoyed it 😊
Hello Vicki :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) It is so good to see you again :) Papa and I are well :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Love these kind of ideas, craft supplies are so very expensive so any little way we can save certainly helps also thanks for the tips on ripping, Thanks a Bunch Hugs and Smiles
Great idea! I made one while I was watching you, easy-peasy! I actually had one on my Amazon wish list. We R Memory Keepers has a 3 pack it's almost $15. Thanks so much, you just saved me $14!
Hello Shelli :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) I am happy I could save you a bit, and it is always more fun to use the things you have made yourself :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Wonderful. Such an inexpensive idea for a great result. Torn edges are so appealing and l will make of these some for sure and add them to my acetate ones. Thank you for the tip about the narrow strips.
Hello Linda :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) It is a bit easier than the acetate ones we made, but they are easier to get a specific shape with, so each one has its place :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
You just saved me some money ! Thank you. I have been thinking about getting one of these for a while but they werent very high on my priority list so kept putting it off. Heading to Dollar Tree tomorrow. Thanks !!!
Great idea. I was using the metal strip off the box of wax paper with some of the box still attached and using a ruler to hold it down but your idea is so much better. On my way to Dollar Tree today. Thank you for sharing. New to your channel.
Hello Caroline :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) I am happy you have found my channel, I hope you enjoy it :) I have use the wax paper tear before too, but I do like this a bit better because you don't have to hold it down with something else :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
I looked for tear rulers recently and felt the cost was prohibitive. Three rulers for 15.00 and I would only use one. There was another for 40.00...I will be dropping by DT this weekend. Thank you for sharing this great option.
I had a few of those rubber flexible rulers that i picked up at dollar tree and i went down the edge with a sharp razor blade and cut out little random notches all the way down and it works awesome!!!!
Awesome! I love this! The more expensive ones are really thick....I think these tear nicer. I used my Dremel Tool and bumped along the edge of a broken wooden yardstick and it works well too. It doesn’t have that metal strip on it. Thank You so much!!! I really love watching your videos-on-a-budget.
Hello Georgia :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) Thank you for sharing your tip on using the dremel on the wooden rulers :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Great video! I have a clear ruler I use to tear but it tears pretty much straight. I think this might be worth trying! Thanks! Just love all your wonderful videos! I have learned so much from you!
Hello Peggy :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) Yes, you should be using safety glasses, that is very smart :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Hello Marsha :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine, they really do make things easier :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Hello Carol :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) Now you can have more if you want a different size, and it won't cost as much :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
You would think that small rip part would be obvious but sometimes its the most obvious that slips by unnoticed. I got a new paper trimmer and it doesn't have the slide out ruler to measure my paper and I kept pulling out my ruler and marking my paper before trimming it, until I realized that I know subtraction, ROFLMBO!! All I had to do, this whole time, was cut backwards. If my paper is 8½" and I need 7" but my trimmer only reads to 5¼", I just have to trim off 1½"... I felt so stupid when I realized it, lololol!!
Hello Lynn :) Thank you for the sweet comment :) Ha, Ha, Ha, I do the same thing, and still to this day I forget sometimes to cut the smaller side if my trimmer isn't big enough :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
I've been wanting a tear ruler, but I didn't want to spend money just to rip paper. I already have some cheap rulers I ruined when my craft knife slipped and cut into the edge, I wouldn't have thought to use pliers to snip pieces out. I'll have to start calling them snips like you do.
Hello Tammy :) I used the pliers for both of the rulers I made and I used a pair of scissors to cut the acetate one :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy
Hello Roden :) Thank you for the comment :) I am glad you were able to get a metal one so cheaply :) tfw, and I hope you have an Outstanding Day :) amy

You inspired me to use the edge of aluminum foil wrap by cutting it out and attaching onto another piece of chipboard (cereal box)..

Great idea but we don't have a Dollar tree and such flimsy rulers here. I bought a metal one and it was about 4 euro's so not that expensive.
