do you ever use any mods for your campaigns? personally I use a few mods to fix some of the problems I have with the base game. For example I got a mod that gives an extra 5% birthrate every time you take one of the food techs for a maximum of +15% birthrate at the end of the game. Combined with healthcare and stacking other modifiers it gives a pretty reasonable +2.5% pop growth per year once you stack everything together and get nitrogen fixation which is a bit too strong on populous nations but is pretty neccessary for playing tall on small ones if you don't or can't get multiculturalism. There is another one I have as well that allows you to build over the cap for iron, coal, sulfur, lead, and oil mines/pumps but at a much more expensive construction cost that goes up exponentially the more you make in a province. It really allows you to play tall by not demanding you literally conquer half the world to get the resources you need. Also something I recently realized is how impactful +5% birthrate actually is and makes me question whether or not getting women's rights early is actually a good thing considering how much it damages your long term pop growth.

Yes, that unification for Scandinavia is a crippled feature. I played Finland and they spamed a war after war with no cooldown because i could not demand anything as a minor PU... It only stoped as they lost a war to a unifided gemany...

i think its like an extra difficulty setting, like it make sense that your people will make economic decision that benefit them even though its not good for your country overall. having said that, the AI is stupid and will make a level 87 railway on a 20k pop state
I've never tested this, but considering that a good chunck of wood demand is pop needs, I think you can make wood cheaper by producing more coal, since coal, oil and wood all satisfy the fuel need for pops (oil is not viable since its base price is quite high, but I think it is doable with coal, at least until you unlock late game techs that reduce the consumption of wood and boost production)
there are a few benefits to autonomous construction. one is that you have to que up less buildings overall. another is more subjective, that it's immersive.
The problem I have with it is I don't want 62 powerplants in Banat. So I turn it off, because it completely ruins the game when it does something like that. And this is coming from someone who really likes the concept, I want to use it but so long as that bug continues to exist (just last weekend I had to give up a run because of it) I won't.
Some great memes runs could be Brazil (for the come to brazil memes) or Argentina (from the miley election with a chainsaw, and promissing to create the best argentinian economy, and for accepting WW2 german refugees meme).
Seeing the Russian Empire actually succeed on their overly ambitious colonial game would certainly be something. Though building up all the industry in China if those areas become annexed would certainly be quite the industrial challenge.
In my recent Russia game I managed to protectorate all of China when they went bankrupt + had a rebellion. After that, I transferred India and ignored Infamy for the rest of the game. Didn't quite manage to conquer all of mainland Eurasia, 2/3 of France and all of Iberia remained when I ran out of time, but certainly could have if I tried harder. I did end up conquering England just so Britain would stop being a nuisance. I also had Women's Suffrage and a strong, loyal TU which ruined my SoL. Also managed to protectorate Prussia as well (or NGF, can't recall). I'd prefer to build strong puppets after a certain point (minting caps at a measly 200m GDP), but the AI is too dumb and constantly drags you into pointless revolts that prevent you from doing any of your own plays. Germany and India were both good puppets but Austria and China went bankrupt and had revolts annually. I had a higher GDP, population, and SoL than my Russia in my tall China game that I played right after. I observed the AI after 1936 and they ruined my perfect China in a year by cutting all the administration buildings to lower PMs for no reason. This put them at 50% tax waste universally. To compensate, they put taxes on highest (they were at minimum) and got every comsumption tax they could afford (authority was really high). Despite that, their losses were like $5m a week. The AI will take the perfect scenario and run it into the ground.
To better minmax around MAPI, you should do “vertical integration” in a single state in early game. For example, construction industry need iron, steel, and tool, so you should concentrate your construction industry in states with a lot of coal, iron and wood, along with coal&iron mines, steel mills, tool manufactures etc..

I’ve gotten the landowners and industrialists together many times. I think I have better luck with that combo than with industrial and intelligencia with my games. I think it depends on how fast you liberalize. I’m kind of do that slowly.

Don't listen to anyone who says "it's not fair" when talking about the investment pool, I actually love the concept but still play with it turned off because it's literally just bugged and will spam build over 50 powerplants or railroads or w/e in a single state quite regularly. Anyone who tells you it's not fair actually just doesn't play the game past 1880, the game isn't fair with it ON.
