All you said is so true. It is just time on the water to get the feeling. Before today I didn't swing my Arms but today it felt easy to go higher on the mast once you are up there is no need for it.

I totally agree with you regarding not burning out on each launch. Also when you are tired you will make mistakes. This on the other hand means you are not programming your muscles in the way they should. Correct movement for less time is better than longer time mix of correct and wrong.
Thanks Gael for your thoughts. Brilliant !

agree! pumping when we are tired = bad technique = we develop bad habits!

Most of us for pump foiling using too thick masts, for ex. I am using aliuminium 19mm, and I think that mast thickness resistance for more to gain speed for more lift the foil. What is yours mast thickness? Do feel the diference for foil lifting between masts thickness?

very good question! my 77 hm mast from gong is 17 mm thick on the lower part. the 72 and 79 are 20mm thick. you can definitely feel the difference because of the drag and the weight. 15-17 in my opinion is the sweet spot between stiffness and drag

the issue i am facing is that i always fall backwards on my back and my pumps aren hard enough. I feel like i need to bend my knees more and have my bodyweight more forward and maybe not stand too much on the heels of my feet. Its very hard learning but i think once you have it right it goes fast. but that first stage to get the right pump movement feels so hard

Agree that the first stage is the hardest. yours it's a common issue. focus on hopping forward. imagine wanting to reach a branch 1 meter in front of your board. project yourself forward. especially with big foils, big stabs and long fuses

pumping harder is never the solution. understanding how to properly transfer your weight on the board is the solution

@@gaeldanieleI also feel it is good to imagine you want to reach for the sky- look far ahead and always feel like you want to reach an apple at the top of a tree. Keep reaching UP…

I think the word Pump Foiling is wrong. Don‘t pump down! Jump more with your body. It should be called Jump fouling!. That makes it easier to understand what needs to happen…
