Coming across your channel this week and having played for 45 years with negligible progress, you've added 10 years of forward movement to me with your novel approach to teaching. Please keep up the good work... and make an old man happy by finishing Solsbury Hill for all of us. (As a postscript - it's taken me all afternoon to work out how to add a comment to your video - not much into tech... but I wanted to let you know that enough people are interested! Cheers matey!)
rob i have learnt a lot of you material ....the explanation to you material is brilliant and make it so much easier to learn...thank you thank you thank you!!!! please put part 2 on your page for us all....in the mean time i will try from the rest of the tabs and see how i do?
Rob, your channel is a real find. For the first time I feel I am making real progress. Who says you can't learn guitar from RUclips? Pfft..!! Please PLEASE do a tutorial for the rest of the song!! Love your work, JVB, Mudjimba Beach, Australia.
Just fantastic lesson Rob. I've finally got the intro nailed but please do a tutorial for the rest, I find it easier than just using the sheets. Thanks so much for doing these, changed my guitar playing life!
Just wanted to say that I learned Horizons by Steve Hackett (Genesis) from you and I'm moving onto to this song, you've been an invaluable resource and your tutorials have elevated my guitar playing. Cheers from Colorado!
Hi Rob, heard your comment re the guitarist. I was looking around on the Net for versions of this song after being inspired by your video, and came across the info the guitarist was Steve Hunter, apparently assoc with Alice Cooper as well. Enjoying your lessons. Thank you.
Great! It Solsbury Hill is working its way into my fingers and brain. I am anxiously awaiting part 2. I thoroughly enjoy your videos, not only for the well explained tutorial but for you conversational manner. Thank you.
Thanks, Rob. I think that your style of tuition is so "Down to earth" and laid back that it would be difficult to not be drawn in. I echo the other comments, please complete this lesson.
Tried and figured out 'Never going back again',so I try also this great tune and already started to go in it,very slowly but I want to get it,thanks Rob.
Hi Rob, could you post the rest of the picking song please? We need it 😅 . Many thanks for all your work and share all your knowledges with us .don't know if you are the best and don't mind. You are MY teacher ! Mv from France
So glad you done this. One of my all time favourites. Have looked at a few tabs on youtube, copied them out, tried once. Just couldn't get into it. This should make it a lot easier. Would really love you to do the rest, it's such a classic 👍
Eh up Rob Thanks for this you've made it very easy to understand what's going on in this song. Better than other lessons I've seen. I've not got a twelve string so I'm playing it twice on the six string 😁. Please do the rest of the song if you've got time. It would be much appreciated. Love your Liverpool sense of humour. I was up there recently - great city. Keep up the good work. Cheers
I am a relative beginner at Travis picking and the 1st page has taken me 4 wks off and on over Xmas, am guessing 12+ hrs-ish, to get my fingers quick enough to reach the tempo required, and even then it is not great. Page 2 beckons shortly! I really struggled with the transition from playing the notes, and playing in time. The bass line will add another level.
Hey Rob, thanks so much for this tutorial again, I nearly got through "never going back again" and "Miley Cyrus cover of Jolene" thanks to you but oh boy had I underestimated this one. Tough one to get the G string ringing when barring (I tend to avoid barred chords at all costs...). I'll get there eventually I'm sure! Thanks a bunch once again!
No. The 3 tracks of 6 stringed guitar recorded was played by Steve Hunter after Hunter rejected the idea of doing it with a 12-string guitar, which was suggested by the producer Bob Ezrin, because he had not played the 12-string in a long time. It's recorded with an Martin acoustic.
@@rainydaytodayey3071 Wow ! I had no idea it was multiple 6 strings although now that you point it out, that makes sense. To play that intro smoothly on a 12 string would be very difficult to pull off even for a guy like Hunter. Thanks for that info !
Thx Rob, i have been waiting for his since you posted the teaser some weeks ago. If you post the rest of it, i'll buy you a pint next time im up in scouseland :-)
Thanks again Rob. Another challenge for these old arthritic hands. But you know something once I have played it correctly for the first time it makes all the pain worth it... Charleston, WV USA
Hi Rob,i viewed other tutorials of this song, but the picking pattern as on page 6 and 8 and also page 10 and 12 are different!! Seems they pick first 2 strings together and then the single. Hard to explain, but maybe you could check and revise, if you like?!! Thanks again for this great tutorial,I nearly already got it,but I am confused now a bit by the other tutorials!!
Hey Rob! Thanks for the fantastically helpful instructional video! And a great looking little 12-string too! I can't make-out its brand (e.g., Taylor, Yamaha, Gibson, etc.), but it looks very nice. Small, with functional cutaway, and a gorgeous finish with gold hardware. If you can get around to it, please let us all know what it is? Muchos gracias! ;--)
The hardest part for me learning on a six string, is listening to the string number call outs but my ears are hearing different string numbers due to the 12 string.
You can’t just ‘do it’ Rod. It a difficult piece and the original diagrams I’ve prepared, to make learning it a real possibility, need some explanation before attempting to play it. ✌️

Steve Hunter played the guitar part.
Thanks!

Really enjoyed your tutorial on the intro to Solsbury Hill think I am slowly getting it. If you have the time please do the next bit of the verse
Nicely done, sir! Love your channel. Would love to see you do a part two on this classic.
Just fantastic lesson Rob. I've finally got the intro nailed but please do a tutorial for the rest, I find it easier than just using the sheets.

Great song. I can't get the alternating bass notes on "automatic" yet - but 'll keep trying!
Brilliant Rob, thanks.
Thanks Rob champion tutorial. Would very much appreciate you tackling the rest of the song. Cheers mate. 13:00 13:00
Awesomeness! Thanks
My favourite song of all time ....thank you for this! Any chance you’re going to do the rest 😊?
I’ve put the full chord charts up for the whole song already, but I’ll do more tutorials for it if enough people watch the first part. ✌️
Got it! Thank you

The 12 string guitar on the original PG recording was played by Steve Hunter.

Great explanation - takes some practice but well worth it / thanks
I have an Epiphone 12 strings and I know how dificult is to play a fingerstyle on it.
Great stuff!
I'm going to give it a go! Luckly I have a 12 string... thanks!
I never learned to finger pic now I'm frustrated need to learn that first! But I love your tutorials! Any advise on finger picking exercises?
Thx Rob, i have been waiting for his since you posted the teaser some weeks ago. If you post the rest of it, i'll buy you a pint next time im up in scouseland :-)
Hi Paul, If you're new to fingerstyle check out the finger picking vid I did some months ago. Worth a look I think.
Thank you!

Your link to the finger picking charts never work for me :(
