- Best Bay Area Restaurants Part 2! This includes some San Jose options. :) Some favorite restaurants in the bay area that we've been missing while we were abroad.

My boss took me to lunch at Telefèric Barcelona and they had beautiful watercolor flyers with a recipe for the pan tomate. I quickly snatched up the flyer and made the bread for dinner a couple of days later. I can honestly say that not only is the food at the restaurant outstanding, but even their basic recipes are on point.
I was taught the same thing as a child by my parents - to eat every grain of rice as a sign of respect to the rice farmers. Japanese and Korean culture can be similar in so many ways! But sometimes I think it's cuz my parents were poor immigrants and hated to see food waste, which is just as noble a reason, too.

Ok well I can give you another look at a mentality that works. Eat till you feel good, extra food can be saved and eaten later, given away, or given back to the soil to feed the soil system in respect to the farmers.

Eating every grain of rice is definitely a must. Have been doing that as a kid. Comes from good training as a kid in Japan. I tell my wife and kids that they need to eat all of their rice every time we eat gohan.
The banana milkshake at the drive inn is bomb too!

I use Rancho Gordo too. I'm not familiar enough with beans to know the difference, but I want to support them because they are awesome.

Paik Noodles, Hu Tieu Nam Vang, Yummy Trieu Chau, Hai Nam, Com Tam Thien Huong in Viet Town mall, Hue Restaurant, Vons Chicken original location, all pretty great spots for authentic food.
Another great foodie adventure.

I have a lot of family in San Fran and been there a few times but dont know much about their food scene. I do remember some really great Mexican spot but I dont remem the name now.

I’m surprised for how much you guys love amazing and create amazing food you are going to some very generic spots in the bay. You have to hit SF up more and some other smaller not so “fancy” spots. Kevin’s pho in westlake in Daly City is the best out there. Not fancy, just home in the wall but best soup
Ummm kevin's is super generic. 😂 food taste is subjective. While Kevin's is good, it's not better in our *personal* opinion.
Rancho Gordo beans are the best, no more canned beans! The black garbanzo beans are wonderful!

I was wondering if you have a favorite restaurant for tempura in the San Francisco and around the Bay Area. It's been a difficult search for me. Enjoy seeing you both at the street fair in the city and your kelp hot sauce. Thanks and enjoy your channels.
Best tempura is Sushi Zono in Campbell. Crispiest batter of any Japanese restaurant. Whenever I go to new Japanese restaurant, I always try their tempura.
I loved little luccas specialty sandwich shop when i was in south san fran. Sad to not see it on your list. 😢
Little Lucca is good but it's pretty rare that we crave a sandwich. 😅
Falafel's drive in is the best. Falafel and banana shake can't be beat

It's the high quality meat, the crab rolls, and for us, they have bun bo hue! A lot of pho places don't have that.

I’ve never heard anyone call Starbread, “butter bread”. We call them señiorita bread out here in the East bay.
They're called seniorita bread over here too but butter bread was more of a description for those who have never had it.

Aloha, and had a few questions. Do you have a permanent abode, and what do you do with it during long trips? What happened with your garden? Did you sell your New Zealand van? And why do you make me hungry?
"Why do you make me hungry?"😂 sorry. lol
We don't have a permanent place, we packed everything up end of December because we couldn't justify paying bay area rent prices to be gone most of the year. So the garden is no more but there will be a better one in the future when we can afford to buy a house!
We still have the NZ van since we plan to go back. Just had to take care of some stuff in the US + van life in new zealand during winter is a bit of bummer.
@@TaklyntheWorld Aloha, and mahalo for your response. Thought maybe you had sublet it. Knew you had some trees. Agree anywhere in the winter in a van would be uncomfortable.

pretty sure the eating of all the grains of rice either on the bowl or plate is more of an Asian culture thing. Because I do the same too, and I usually have to scold my younger siblings/cousin. Throwing rice away is a sin. :D

I don’t understand the love for durian. Had it in thailand and regretted it. There is nothing pleasant about it. My thai friends enjoyed watching me try it though😂 to each their own.
