I’ve started these videos so you can get the most out of your Cigar Box Guitar and Shovel.
In this lesson we go over the song structure of this great JJ Cale tune. I perform this in D, frankly any key works.

When I first started 'playing' Cigar Box Guitar...it was fretless with a slide and I got such COOL gritty Blues stuff...awesome - NEVER really knew that with a FRETTED Cigar Box Guitar you could get SO many AMAZING songs on this primitive instrument!!! VERY cool Mark!!!! Cheers..

I didn't either... I picked this up in late sept. 17 and it has been quite a ride. I was getting tired physically with my guitars (6 stringers) Picking up the 3 was a game changer for me. Songs are falling into my lap at every turn.... i'm a happy unfrustrated musician again. P.S. My band mates have noticed the difference as well. Cheers and thanks for the kind words.

Nice tie in with the looper pedal! You can jam for days with the rhythm playing. I found a lot of Clapton's licks can be played well over this. Excellent as always. Thanks for sharing!

My HS class had a "60th" reunion (we're all turning the big 6-0 this year). My classmate's band played this and I've been trying to work it out (even though I watched the rhythm guitar the whole song - maybe it was the beers. Maybe not). There's a couple of challenges with the fretless, but your solo parts offer a few clues. As you've recently noted, the slide players are flying to make some things happen.
Motion seconded on the bad ass song - thanks again for a great lesson!

Great lesson. Learned something new on the boxes.
If you ever get time and are looking for a song to teach, how about some John Lee Hooker, Boom Boom or Boogie Chillun.
Thanks again, and keep it going

Can you recommend some drum machine to add rhythm? Thanks!

I've never had much luck with drum machines. I did have a roland or boss 660. I'm unfortunatly not savvy enough to figure it out. I sold it.
